My daughter's boyfriend got me some "Prince of Dankness" for my birthday. He is a fine lad.

DEE and I shared an oil can at the Queen Mountain trailhead. Very tasty for a double/imperial.

There was still some warmth in the sun when I arrived home today, so I spent a bit of time on the back deck scrubbing out a couple of recently-emptied kegs...

...and, if you're going to be outside, scrubbing beer kegs, you might as well find a keg that isn't empty, and pull yourself a glass.

A fairly big IPA, fermented with brett as well as regular ale yeast. Eight months later, it's incredible. Wild IPA.

The actual beer I'm drinking right now -- a Belgian-style quad from Block 15 -- is irrelevant.

What matters is that I'm raising my glass in a toast to Locker. His banning, and that of Kevin Worrall, is a depressing route marker on the decline of Supertopo.

Here's to two guys I don't know, but wish I did. And whom I now have lost my chance to get to know better.

Right now? Sumatran dark roast, organic, fair trade, blessed by the Dali Lama and kissed by Scarlet Johansson. Boooyagh.

Last night, a couple of 805's. Can't handle the heavy, hoppy stuff.

@TAd: Dood. You did a sixer of that stuff? Whoa. Ass kicked I'm sure!

Edit: Yeah, I better toast to Locker, too. RIP!

The beer is good, but the can label is awesome. Did I ever mention the time I spent at Cal Ink (now Flint) down in the flats in Berkeley? Developing the ink to have the surfactant profile to print on cans, have the correct color balance and durability is not straightforward. (neither is photographing a can)

Decent places should never serve good beer in jars.

OK, at home I drink margaritas and tequila sunrises from a quart jar, but I live in a f*#king fruit grove, not at the beach.

Last night I was at a joint in Long Beach WA (Pickled Fish) right on the beach, enjoying the billion-dollar view from their fourth-floor bar, watching whales in the Pacific Ocean spouting in the sunset (no shit!) while drinking a nice Fort George IPA from a mason jar.

C'mon guys. Next time one of their numerous local craft beer distributors shows up to re-up the beer stock, they should have them leave a case or two of their logo pint glasses.

The Pickled Fish is also a tip-free establishment, which makes me uncomfortable. I just can't bring myself to stiff a bartender, so I tipped her anyway. How does that taste?

Now I'm off to Astoria, to check out Buoy Brewing, which comes highly recommended from a gal at the bar at Fort George Brewery.
