Leonard Cohen passed away today.
Sad news.
Listen to the rap.
That's right it's come to this. This is for Bob if you're still out there.

Hard to believe, hard to understand how much leaves us when anybody dies, but someone like this, well... loved his music.

One of the two most influential songwriters of the last fifty years. (Along with Dylan)
A true genius.

I'm really shaken by this news. Unexpected and saddening. I put Cohen up there with the other great contemporary poets (intentionally not mentioned). I didn't realize he was that far along in years - the clock ticks faster these days, it seems.

The entire enterprise of life, from cradle to grave, is fraught with uncertainty and peril and no one gets out alive.
Thanks Leonard for being whoever it was you thought you were.
Respect, RIP.

^My how times fly. That album was actually released in 1966. I was in college and that was 50 years ago.
From Johnny's 81st album in 1994 American [!] Recordings.

Being that it's Remembrance Day, Cohen recites John McCrae's famous poem, "In Flanders Fields".

Must say good night to Leonard Cohen. I met him at the Zen Center, up in Baldy. Hiked Ice House Canyon with him once, his favorite haunt. What can I say..... Underrated and under appreciated( except by those in the know) he had a brilliant, expressive body of work.
RIP

I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can't stand the scene
And I'm neither left or right
I'm just staying home tonight
Getting lost in that hopeless little screen
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
As time cannot decay
I'm junk but I'm still holding up this little wild bouquet
Democracy is coming to the USA
To the USA

Thanks, Guido. That surely was a beautiful tribute by Cohen.
I liked Cohen's idea that a lament should be done in a proper fashion.
And his story of the six-chord flamenco progression was enlightening and entertaining.
Cohen's speaking voice is one of the mellowest. Or was...
