President Obama had better think twice about raising the issue of Philippine extra-judicial killings, warned the country's confrontational leader on Monday.
The US president and his Philippines counterpart, Rodrigo Duterte, were set to meet in Laos this week, where Obama is attending a meeting of Southeast Asian leaders. White House officials previously said Obama would confront the Philippines President about his country's handling of drug dealers, including extra-judicial killings, or government executions without the benefit of judicial proceedings or due process.

But the Filipino leader did not take kindly to that notion.
"Who does he think he is? I am no American puppet. I am the president of a sovereign country and I am not answerable to anyone except the Filipino people," Duterte scoffed in a speech Monday. "Son of a b, I will swear at you."

From the website

However, the harshest assessments of Obama are found in an increasingly anti-American Russia.

That would be a badge of honor to be disliked by Russia. Trump takes pride in Putin ballcupping him.

Socialistic tendencies.

You mean the hundreds of millions of people in poverty around the world that capitalism, socialism, corporations, diamond mines, oil wells, pineapple plantations, Christian missionaries etc have never delivered to? The people of the world aren't as stupid as many seem to believe, and world "leaders" mostly aren't what they're cracked up to be either....

A WEEK after President Rodrigo Duterte confirmed plans to receive $32 million in U.S. aid, American officials on Monday, August 8, urged his administration to end human rights abuses in its violent war on drugs.

The aid committed by the U.S. is meant to fund “training and services” for Philippine security forces. It was announced while the Philippine National Police (PNP) are engaged in a bloody crackdown on the illegal drug trade.

http://asianjournal.com/news/us-concerned-about-killings-in-ph-clarifies-use-of-32-million-aid/

We are essentially funding these rampant murders if the Obama admin gives that money as has been pledged. As usual what is actually going on is not being told.

FACT!!!...

These things have occurred...

"1. Passed Health Care Reform: After five presidents over a century failed to create universal health insurance, signed the Affordable Care Act (2010). It will cover 32 million uninsured Americans beginning in 2014 and mandates a suite of experimental measures to cut health care cost growth, the number one cause of America’s long-term fiscal problems.

EDIT: Blah blah blah

50. Killed the F-22: In 2009, ended further purchases of Lockheed Martin single-seat, twin-engine, fighter aircraft, which cost $358 million apiece. Though the military had 187 built, the plane has never flown a single combat mission. Eliminating it saved $4 billion."...

51. Increased the national debt 100% in just 8 years to roughly $20 Trillion.

I thought President Obamas calm, adult, measured response to Duartes outburst was perfect, and it made me proud. Maybe the media does pick and choose such things to manipulate us and I could see that being an argument, but I didn't think any American citizen would have thought bad of our President for it otherwise. Big respect to you Cragman, but perhaps you didn't see the Presidents response? I'll go fish it out and post it up. Maybe even Pyro can learn something.

(I'd seen the Son of a Whore" version of the comment.) edit/update -
"Duterte has bristled repeatedly at criticism over his "war on drugs", which has killed about 2,400 people since he took office two months ago, and on Monday said it would be "rude" for Obama to raise the question of human rights when they met. Such a conversation, Duterte told reporters, would prompt him to curse at Obama, using a Filipino phrase "putang ina" which can mean "son of a bitch" or "son of a whore"."

The meeting was cancelled of course and the reported news (this quote is from FOX NEWS specifically just for you all) was this:
"Speaking at the G20 summit in China on Monday morning, Obama said he had heard about Duterte's "colorful" remarks and instructed his staff to see if meetings with Duterte would still be "productive."

I can understand Duterte carrying some anger as we subjugated that country to turn it into a colony, but we have had (generally) good relations with them since and calling any leader of an ally country is such a dumb assed thing to do. That ours took the high road and avoided the obvious stupidity of a dumb ass response in return, like a real statesman or a solid President, I see as a good thing Dean. High regard to Obama for it.

I lived there for a year in 1985, junior year of high-school. The Philippines is an awesome place. Great people overall. Probably the friendliest to Americans in all of Asia.

The Philippines has had a problem for a while with Marxist rebels in the southern islands. Thy used to lay pretty low and it was understood they'd be left, largely, alone.

This really started to change when Islamic militancy grew in these southern islands with encouragement from Malaysia, Indonesia, and even Thailand. The group, MILF, was born. The Moro Islamic Liberation Force.

These guys started to kidnap and behead people, like their crazy Islamic brothers. The Philippines, backed by US special forces, began hunting these MILF dudes.

They have caused all kinds of chaos in the Philippines. Including more drug-running and killings. Duterte is not putting up with it anymore.

The same should be done in Mexico.

EDIT: Our former Naval base in the Phils should be a priority for our next president. Subic Bay. Very strategic base for us, and the Filipinos tend to always side with us. We have very common interests.

But WE do not have all the facts. It IS a soveriegn country with their own laws.

Yes, they do have their own laws. Maybe even a couple things you would recognize in their Bill Of Rights.

Section 1

No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, nor shall any person be denied the equal protection of the laws.

Section 2

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures of whatever nature and for any purpose shall be inviolable, and no search warrant or warrant of arrest shall issue except upon probable cause to be determined personally by the judge after examination under oath or affirmation of the complainant and the witnesses he may produce, and particularly describing the place to be searched and the persons or things to be seized.

"Yes, but we already knew that they were a drug dealer!"

In places like the good ol' USA, even if we KNOW they're a drug dealer, we don't execute them on the street! We arrest them, charge them, and then put them on trial, or get a plea bargain out of them.

Republicans love to scream about Chicago. There have been 500 gun deaths in ALL OF 2016, generally by one lawless person against another, with too many innocents caught in the crossfire.

In Duterte's Philippines, there have been 2,000 in just 7 weeks.

Nobody said that exactly escargot. But we did basically put ourselves in the position of the supposedly "indispensable" nation. A world in chaos, and oppressed peoples rightly look to the "greatest nation in the world" for help.

Look, I understand Idaho's desire for a big beautiful white wall so they don't have to think about brown people, but those days are passed.

O.k., so we agree on Mexico. Since the cartels have so corrupted the legal/judicial system, wouldn't you also say there are some extreme law enforcement required?

These cartel dudes OWN the courts and most people. They have to be conbatted on their own terms. Ruthlessly, with extreme prejudice. I have argured for a while that US special operations (CIA?) teams should be used to assassinate cartel members.

We occupied the Phillipines. I'm guessing that they don't feel all "Thanks Massa''.

Yea, consider Douglas MaCarthur's father and his gentle governorship of the Philippines...

the invention of the Model 1911 .45 had something to do with the historic warmfuzzy US relations of the region, I believe

when put up against the Moro juramentados many officers learned of the cartridge’s shortcomings the hard way. Reports of juramentados absorbing a cylinder-full of .38 Long Colts and still beheading the shooter with a keris knife were disturbingly regular.

Mad Dog Duterte's body count is over 6,000 now. He's doing a bang up job of cleaning the streets eh Blue? Would it still be ok if a couple of those bodies came from your family?
Now he casually drops a mention of Martial Law...

Duterte caused the Great Depression? Whoa! Me mum hasn't forgotten it - she refuses to
throw food away. She prefers it to gently rot away in her reefer.

Here are a few facts that are not common knowledge in the MSM. Duterte, before he was elected made his intentions very well known regarding what would be his drug policy Even BEFORE he was elected he told the crooked government workers, crooked cops, crooked military and the drug dealers to “walk away”.

AFTER he was elected, he said the same thing. He even went as far as to offer any government worker / military persons who “walked away” full pension and retirement. He made this offer and he said “or I’ll f__king kill you”. This is not BS. The Youtube video’s of him saying this might still be up. Also it was reported on the “zerocensorship dot com” news site. I am sure if you go to that site and click on the “Asia” filter and search back a few months you’ll see everything I type here is correct.

A month went by and he made a second less generous offer. “you have 24 hours to hand in your guns and turn yourself in. We have your names. You will get your day in court. If you do not do this, I’ll f__cking kill you.”
Again this offer was well documented. To those that did not pick from door # 1 or door # 2, well, he f__king killed them.
As an aside he ALSO started a massive anti-drug campaign in all the rural provinces sending out an army of nurses and paid counselors to try to sway the young ones against even starting drugs.

Of course this also never gets mentioned in MSM.

https://theintercept.com/2017/05/23/trump-called-rodrigo-duterte-to-congratulate-him-on-his-murderous-drug-war-you-are-doing-an-amazing-job/

“You are a good man,” Trump told Duterte, according to an official transcript of the April 29 call produced by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs and obtained by The Intercept. “Keep up the good work,” Trump told Duterte. “You are doing an amazing job.”

Trump began the call by telling Duterte, “You don’t sleep much, you’re just like me,” before quickly pivoting to the strongman’s drug war.

“I just wanted to congratulate you because I am hearing of the unbelievable job on the drug problem,” Trump told Duterte at the beginning of their call, according to the document. “Many countries have the problem, we have a problem, but what a great job you are doing and I just wanted to call and tell you that.”

Now we'll be even deeper in bed with him, now that he's got his very own ISIS war going.
