But seriously, the only animals you should pick up in the Yellowstone are baby bears.

or wolf cubs, but make sure momma is near by.

Why did the park service have to kill it? I'm sure a zoo or a rescue group would love to take care of the little guy. I thought I heard they made the bison the national animal,Plenty of places that would come and get it.

Yeah, I tried to figure out where I heard that joke. I even asked around; REO Speedwagon was no help, "Heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who, heard it from another..."

Sometimes you need to know when to quit....

It isn't that simple.

From a press release from YNP:

"In order to ship the calf out of the park, it would have had to go through months of quarantine to be monitored for brucellosis. No approved quarantine facilities exist at this time, and we don't have the capacity to care for a calf that's too young to forage on its own. Nor is it the mission of the National Park Service to rescue animals: our goal is to maintain the ecological processes of Yellowstone. Even though humans were involved in this case, it is not uncommon for bison, especially young mothers, to lose or abandon their calves. Those animals typically die of starvation or predation."

Why didn't they put down the people that 'adopted' the calf????

Kinda grim, but I began wondering what they did with the euthanized youth's remains. Were they quarantined?

On Monday, officials said that the calf had been euthanized a week after visitors picked the animal up and put it in the trunk of an S.U.V. The calf was killed because it was later rejected by its herd and appeared to have been habituated to humans, Morgan Warthin of the National Park Service wrote in a statement.

“The bison calf was later euthanized because it was abandoned and causing a dangerous situation by continually approaching people and cars along the roadway,” Ms. Warthin wrote.

Howd they get it?

I went to look at bison in montana. 300m away on the other side of a 5m fence with phone poles for posts the f*#kers went into offensive mode and the big ones got nasty.
How you get anywhere near a calf im thinking is on a breeding farm where theyre seperated already.

German, actually, which would make them of the same stock as 40% of Americans.
( including me)

But they weren't Mexican, so Donald Drumpfh would have a hard time railing against them.

One baby bison is a drop in the bucket. Montana ranchers and the NPS have killed thousands of bison that dared to migrate out of the park.

This calf most likely had been involved with other tourists in the park.

It's very improbable that it became habituated to humans in one encounter.

Those tourons at Grand Prismatic Spring ought to be jailed.
Those footprints in the spring's runoff channel will last for
