Ok, I found what I'd read earlier;

Yosemite/climbing friends; I just got word that our good friend... One of my best friends, Brian "Captain Kirk" Bland is in the ICU in Boise due to a bad head injury from climbing. This is all the information I have. I was told they just removed a ventilator, which is a good sign.

Please friends... Send him your good, healing energy, prayers, karma points and love. heart emoticon

I am so worried for him. He was my inspiration for getting my CDL as well as the guy who got me the job in the Bakken oilfield. We have had many good times together... I hope they can continue.

I will let you know his condition as soon as I learn more.

update ***

Here's what I have learned: 30' fall, pulled gear. Multipal skull fractures most noteworthy is a basal fracture near his brain stem.
Thankfully no real intercranial swelling. After9 hours of surgery, he is breathing on his own, he has full movement and is concious and alert, answering questions legibly and appropriately.

Heal up well man! We've never met but have shared the forum for a long time, and I wish you a speedy recovery. Those trucks aren't going to drive themselves (yet) and somebody's got to get the rope up there!

Bummer to read that Scully took a tumble, but good to read that he is doing OK. I found this article in a search on Boise News.

It took a Boise Fire Department rescue team at least 45 minutes to carefully walk the climber out of the ravine he fell into Tuesday, Capt. Randy Barnack told reporters.

Firefighters and medics responded to a ravine in the Black Cliffs along Highway 21, about a half-mile east of the diversion dam, after a noon call to dispatchers.

The 56-year-old “was climbing up there with a partner, and something went wrong and he ended up taking a fall,” Barnack said.

At first, it was tricky to find the man’s location, he said: “There’s a lot of Black Cliffs along Highway 21 so we had a little confusion which section he was on.”

Led by a Boise Fire technical team, rescuers hiked about 15 minutes up to the man’s location, loaded him into a stretcher and began the slow trek back.

“This is an extremely dangerous area to walk down carrying someone who's already injured,” Barnack said. “So not only are we trying to take care of the person who was hurt, but we’re trying to make sure the rescuers don't get hurt. The trail the first-responders used is no more than 2 feet wide in many places, meaning the six people carrying the stretcher (with help from a larger team) were walking on rocks. At one point, the route grew so steep that they had to secure the stretcher with a rope.

At the bottom, they brought the stretcher across one side of the highway, through the median to a waiting air ambulance that flew the man to a nearby hospital.

Barnack wasn’t sure how far the climber fell. He appeared to have a head injury; Barnack said he was “obviously injured” but awake and talking.

His name and condition were not immediately available Tuesday.

Heidi & I will try to find out more tomorrow, but we are currently entertaining house-guests.

I met Skully last June at the COR gathering and we hit it off famously. What a great guy. Sorry to hear this. I'm glad he is doing good and on the way to recovery.

He told me how he got the name Skully from a head injury from a fall on El Cap. Dude, you don't have to live up to your name. Right?

I wish the best for your recovery. Be well, brother.

How Skully got his nick name.

It was a weekend I belive, and the first call was injured climber at the base of El Cap.

The guy got flattened at the base by his partner accidentally dropping the haul bag on top of him.

Carried him out to ground Ambulance.

Started driving back around the loop and dispatch calls climber fall on Mescalito.

We run code back to El Cap, run to the base of Mescalito and it's skully sitting there seeing stars with a huge laceration on the top of his head with blood down his face.

He looked like some dude from wwf wrestlemania who got pounded by a metal chair .... LOL.

hey there say, ... sorry for the bump, again...

but i just feel bad, when he sinks to the other page, at this
very serious time in his life...

you know, trips, interests, etc, they surface again,
sooner or later...

but when someone's hurt, it's nice when they can
surface as much as possible...
we all know how very hard those trails are, :(

prayers--may they run hard and deep ... and then high...

Edit: My original note said Kirk, which is how I know him from the Facelift, but when I saw that most others were referring to him as Brian, I thought it should be amended.

I just called the Hospital and they do not have a record of...

Brian Bland
Kirk Bland
Brian Kirk Bland
or
Brian Kay.

She said if someone was discharged longer than 48 hours ago it would not be on her records.

Hoping for the best.

This is a head-scratcher. I also called today after Prod posted, since there are a bunch of St. Als in the Boise area. Prod is correct.

I tried two old phone numbers for Skully, both are disconnected.

On the bright-side there isn't an obit posted for him.

I only know skully from hanging out with him for a few days but maybe he wants it that way. Kinda like when an old tom cat gets injured and they just hide somewhere and sleep it off. Just a thought and I could be wrong but I could also relate to that sentiment as well.

Either way, it's the thought that counts. Jefe said he got through with an email.

Yep! Pullin hard for ya everyday Captain Kirk:)

Awhile ago i dug out my awesome lucky Leeper cam hook that you either gave me, or i bought. Regardless, you showed me how to use it on magic mushroom. i thought it the best thing since banana and peanutbutter burritos! Now it's hanging in my car. so everyday i look at it and think about that thing you said to that third guy we did the rte. with, which i can't remember his name?? Anyway, he was a paranoid pete. And after a couple of slow days on the wall when he asked you what we should do with the impeding storm, impeding! I'll never forget what you said, "We will enjoy ourselves despite the agony!" And you said it as if you were standing on the stern of a ship and speaking out to a wild ocean, and saluting to the beyond.. i think you where even wearing a skull and crossbones bandana? Made quite the impression on me, and the hanging out for the next three days of rain and partying it up even made the bailing seem fun..

Hey Captain, whatta'ya say when you get out we drive over to el Capitan and we finish that Rte?

i got some new jokes ;)

hey there say, fritz...

did you, please, say that you had talked to skully's brother, once?

say, i got a card, here and he says, i can look up the hospital...
i hope that means, too, that we can share here, right?

so that we can send him cards... but:
how do we ask the hospital for what room he is in?
they may not let us know that?

are you able to get in touch with his brother, faster,
than snail mail... (my card, came by snail mail, to me) ...

we would all wish to send skully some cards, and bring
some sunshine into his room...

thanks, fritz...

here is the hospital, where he was moved to:

Vibra Hospital of Boise
2131 South Bonito Way
Meridian, ID 83642

do we just ask if we can send cards to 'a friend'
IF we know he is there, but do NOT have a room?

Neebee: Great to see that you got a card from Skully's brother. Since he was willing to share where Skully is at, I certainly don't see a problem with sharing it here.

I'm also certain that cards sent there to Brian Kirk Bland will make it to him.
