Seems like a legit forum user. I'd buy if I wasn't afraid of carrying haul bags. I get like an allergic reaction or something. ;)

You can put Donald Trump in it.

Will Hillary fit as well? If so I'll buy it if you pack it.

Locker -- "How the hell did he survive when you tossed the bag???..."

Here's classic supertopo mental speculation, kneejerk and projection in action.

Where did anyone say he was hauled up anything.

Nowhere.

Bin Laden was a CIA operative like James Bond.

We trained him, hid him and used him to push all the alphabet soup of freedom robbing laws that 0wn you fools today.

You can't believe everything you read on the internet for sure, except from me only.

Just ask Shipley and Coz they'll tell ya.

So .... who the f__k is buying the bags???????

Yeah Mike.

Nobody does walls anymore these daze.

They hang out at some bridge now and play gin rummy while one party climbs so they don't feel guilty.

I'm headin over to eBay where it will sell for sure.

I know there's high demand for haul bags by American bowling groups to haul their bowling balls to competions ....

I only play golf now. Much more sane of a game. How many clubs do you think it would hold? Some fairways are steep so hauling is an option and sometimes it takes days to get around.

The new one is an A5 40 inches long.

Looks like a Fish bag to me. The A5 bags have shoulder straps that are sewn into the bag, with a vinyl area to tuck them away for protection while hauling; they are permanently attached. The Fish bags have a buckle system where the shoulder straps attach to those straps seen in the photo, and the horizontal (err… vertical…) piece of seatbelt webbing is sewn on to protect the attachment straps while hauling.

The A5 bags have the webbing loops for the closure strap sewn into the top black seatbelt webbing around the top of the vinyl, and they are oriented downward. The ones in the photo are separate from the top seatbelt webbing and are sewn to the vinyl separately, and are oriented upward. Fish bags have the red sleeve of reinforcement webbing around the top of the haul straps, where the hauling biner attaches, as seen in the photo. I don’t think A5 bags ever had that reinforcement webbing sleeve. Smells Fishy to me…

Here's classic supertopo mental speculation, kneejerk and projection in action.

Yup; couldn’t help myself…

You can't believe everything you read on the internet for sure, except from me only.

Still smells Fishy…

Yes----Minerals is correct. Maybe an unusual color for Fish bag. . . . but definitely a Fish.

Either a really old bag or a Muslim knockoff.

We don't have a "box-X" bartacker as was used on the main haul straps. Last guy to have one of those machines was Walt Shipleys buddy Hy who used to do some sewing for us. Man, that's going back a ways.

Might be one of the very first Kyle Copeland haul bag designs (Kyle came to A5 around 1988 to help expand our sewing shop--with him came a few designs he had been developing--mostly packs).

Then, around late 80's I set my sights on improving the existing haulbag designs and came up with the tuck away shoulder straps (I didn't like hunting around for straps at the top of el cap!), and the webbing loop closure system. Then a few years later I integrated the river bag closure idea into our haulbags for better waterproofness.

Other features I can recall pioneering: the offset clip in system and full strength clip in loop at the top of the bag sewn into the main strap system. And of course a zippered pocket inside the bag so you could make a fast getaway with the car keys once back at the bottom.

I recall also building a few different prototypes to find the optimal height/diameter ratio... That was fun simulating getting something in the bottom of a haulbag while hanging from a bolt on the outside shop walls...

Edit: picture of state of the art haulbag, 1997 here: http://bigwalls.net/gear.html (note: the best material is a 32 oz. Urethane, not vinyl)

Good morning Men!!!

Welcome to the battlefield of haul bags where keen eyes are needed to discern the subtle difference of your enemies weapons :-)

Haul bags are the weapons born of the Burt Bronsons.

This one was personally handed to me by Deuce himself.

And this one by Russ himself

Both hard hard men from the same DNA of Burt Bronson.

Minerals will have to eat crow ...... :-)

this post from Werner is the final nail in the coffin of climbing, let me explain

now that even Werner is attempting to cash in on the art of moving over granite there is no one left to look up to these days. all today's climbers are capitalists trying to sell themselves or pictures or magazine or shirts or gloves or hats

what a bummer

oh well lets go climbing

Didn’t Deuce tell you that he stole that bag from Russ?

I only eat turkey…… on sandwiches…… and not on Thanksgiving!

Me still says it’s not a commercially-made A5 bag. No false advertising! ; p

If Werner recalls me giving it to him, then it is an A5 bag for sure!

Minerals, as you know, there was a lot of collaborative designing going on at A5.

I think that bag is an early Kyle Copeland design, made with the first batch of pvc fabric, which was tan.

We later went with urethane fabric, of course, it's much better.

But as mentioned, at some point I completely redesigned the haul bags and invented features like the tuck away shoulder straps.

Minerals, by the time you started working at A5, this was all way old history--I don't think you overlapped with Kyle, did you?

^^^^^^^^^ It was before he changed his name from Been Leading.

He was tall enough to lead Burton and Gerberding rivet ladders that had not yet been modernized for the 67-inch tall Standardized Sloan Gumby.

Is is safe to say that a PVC haul bag should be restricted to the overhanging East Face, and never used on the low-angle SW face?
