Thia is really bad news.
http://ultimateclassicrock.com/dan-hicks-dies/
Dan Hicks, who helped keep the traditions of rock’s roots in country, bluegrass and swing alive with his band the Hot Licks, has died at the age of 74. He had been battling throat and liver cancer for two years.

Man, and the voices of him and his backup singers! That's from memory, I haven't heard a "lick" in years.

Severely bad news. Tobia is right, this is a world gone wrong not just the ST.
Once a Charlatan always a Charlatan.
Woe the luck, WTF.

Incorrectly attributed to Maria rather than Naomi. It's great though.

And a wound that will never heal

And goodnight to Mathilda, too"

Tell me it ain't so. I guess we are at the age where these guys, as well ourselves, are passing on. Death leaves no mortal behind.
Someone else will have to sing It's Not My Time To Go, but it will never sound the same.

Wow. Listening to some of these sure brought back some memories. I hadn't thought about how his music resonated so much with me because it was mainly "situational". Those "situations" were deeply emotional events. Ahh...young life.
I thank him for those times but sad they were resurrected because of his passing.

Sad to hear this, love all his uplifting tunes. He was an excellent comic as well. May he rest in peace. And harmony. Peace AND harmony!

How sad to learn of Dan's loss to his legions of fans. I loved his music and off-the-wall lyrics that were such a pleasant accompaniment to the instruments.
I was fortunate enough to catch one of his concerts in Victoria in the early '70s and, of course, it was great - complete with the pink flamingo decoration adding some extra colour to the stage. I had many favourite tunes, not the least of which was the brilliant "O'Reilly at the Bar".
The world is a poorer place without his music.

I saw his last show, in Napa, with the Hot Licks. He mentioned something about this was his last show and was not in his usual state. I went home and did some research. Liver cancer! That wasn't even 2 months ago.
Sad loss. I have seen a ton of his shows over the years.

“I will always be humble to my dying day,” Mr. Hicks, tongue in cheek as usual, said when interviewed in 2013 by Roberta Donnay of the Hot Licks. “On my dying day I will explain to the world how lucky they have been to be alive the same time as me.”
