Is anyone surprised that someone who has posted here 4481 times does not realize there was never a person named Steck Salathe? I suggest we begin giving new people a test before allowing them to post.

John, it's nothing new. I used to spend a good part of my working day, for almost 19 years, talking to people who lived in a parallel universe. The most amazing things happened to them.

joke because I don't see a viable business model. Besides, when Bernie

Okee dokee, but let me give you some beta. Go to the US Small Bus Admin* website. There
is a wealth of good info there, including a mentor program of retired dudes who know what
they're talking about. There is also commercial business plan software available that will
make you think and answer the hard questions that need to be asked. There's a lot of home-
work you need to do and there WILL be a test, a pass/fail test. ;-)

There was a story a few years ago on a death when the auto-belay on a carnival climbing wall failed.
Also, I don't get what is so funny about this idea as a business idea. Plenty of people have tried it and climbing walls have completely become mainstream. Here in Asheville, they have some where people pay $5 for ONE climb.

First, it's not funny, it's fun. Even Pyro gets that. ;-)
Second, any business is fraught with potential problems. Why do you think Murphy is famous?
Third, a lot of smart (or smartass) people at Lehman Bros thought they had the sub-prime
mortgage business all sussed out, too.

- Hook up with Party Planners. People with lots of disposable income like to have special things as their kid's birthday parties.
Consider it as an option for a fundraising tool. Schools, scouting groups, churches, and other not-for-profits that are holding an event can have the climbing wall there and people donate to the group for climbs. Someone who has no interest in climbing could donate a certain amount of money which allows for X number of free tries for kids under 12 or whatever... Grandpa would happily pay up for that, especially with the wee ones chirping "PLLLLEEEEZZZZ Grampa?"
Work with local strip malls, furniture stores, car dealerships, etc. that could use some traffic.... They pay you to bring the wall over, the stores all have some sort of promo, and people can climb for free.

P... listen up,
It is not just the insurance, & permits
it is gas and travel and cash flow-
wear & tear, breakage, down time, and plain old obsolescence . . .
also having to protect yourself; secure the till, provide waivers,
pay an employee?
There are a lot of reasons as to why you don't see any, really, or have you?
Be careful what you wish for.... I thought you were younger,
and this carney rigg looks like a bit of an under cooked idea.....
It is freezing phukin' cold here. I'm so jello of y'all on the west coast
but id be a cook on a Cruise Ship with a drunken Captain ( aren't they all?)
before I'd spend a dime to have to run my own carnival ride.....
( which by the way is an ample description of my life anyway)
That came off harsh,,,,? and I did not mean it that way.............

I'm actually not knocking this- there's just a lot of costs to consider and doing shows/carnivals/events for a living is more committing both in time, energy and money than most people think. I know - I speak from many years of experience.

Here are my daily PM's list.. brainstorming list.
It's heavy price on the insurance but Im more concerned with the cost of HOUSING these giant fiberglass figures. Im thinking an aircraft hanger. Could not allow fiberglass figures to sit outside and get weathered.
I can imagine taking the chalked holds off the wall throwing it in the dishwasher..

Uh...yeah, insurance is an important consideration.
Here's an incentive to get people to pay for climbs: At the top of the route, they unclip a carabiner with an attached container, which includes a "prize." Everyone who makes it to the top gets a prize! The list of prizes would vary, depending on the venue/clientele.
As with any of these "everyone wins something" games, the prizes are heavily weighted in favor of not losing the farm. Many, many "Next Climb Free" prizes. Many gift certificates to local venue, in which the winner is likely to spend more money than they won, a random selection of outright half decent items, and a couple big ticket "carrot-danglers" for the ever optimistic dreamer.
While it is true that I would never have any inclination to operate a climbing wall, I like and support entrepreneurism.

fiberglass figures can be made more durable( in theory) but provide a more Aesthetic appeal..
I just Imagine 3 or 4 of these things set up people would go nut's!
Happiegrrrl2 your awesome.. thank you for taking the time.
