I searched a bit and saw that there had not been a CJ appreciation thread here (although the fundraiser thread was kind of like that). My wife and I both owe a significant amount of our good climbing memories to Clark. Hoping he is still coming round...
If its not kosher to do a thread, then I'll just tell you a funny story.
As some of you know, I am roughly twice Clark's size. And that's not an exaggeration. I mean I could put Clark in my pocket and carry him around like a lucky leprechaun. Ha.
So, I had been climbing for quite a few years and was preparing for my first solo big wall and I went out w Clark for two days to do a Big Wall/Rescue 1-1 lesson to boost my confidence and make sure I've got the necessary skillz.
We come to the spot where he wants me to set up a haul and I climb something and set up a haul at the belay and he clips his "heavy" back pack or something to the haul line and I'm like "dude, really?" and I reach down and pull it up hand over hand and throw the line back down and said "clip in".
Well, Clark starts going on about z-rigs and mechanical advantage until I put my weight into it the first time and he realizes he's flying up the rock as I haul him like a bag of rocks. 30 seconds later, he's at the belay giggling.
It was funny and gave me the confidence to go on and fail on any number of solo big walls across the country. Safely.
However, roughly three months after that session with Clark, I found myself three pitches up with a partner who had suffered a broken patella from rockfall and I successfully self-rescued by lowering down and got her to the hospital. This with one of our double ropes cut by the rocks.
Without Clark, that doesn't happen. Thanks!

Saw him in town several times a few weeks ago- he said his illness was back, and he was dealing with it. Same Clark, though- a good word, and a funny smile.

Damn - why oh why won't that cancer leave him alone!? Well, if ever there was a person who could kick cancer's ass, it is Clark. A few years ago, he was going through chemo and though most people would rest up for a few days after, he wanted to go climbing. Took myself and a friend up Double Cross. Now I know he has led that route about a thousand times, but still....
Tell Clark I say hello if anyone sees him soon.

How is it that Clark appears as tall, if not taller, than John Long in that shot?

That time some stranger named Clark asked if I'd give him a belay on the Flower and follow. As a total noob, I said "Sure". He turned the roof and went out of sight without having placed a single piece on the pitch....odd, thought I, he carried a rack. When I turned the roof he had an anchor set up in a crack. That's when I learned we were doing Wet Dreams.
Luv ya, Clark.

There's a platform in the corner where the pictures are all displayed. Clark is on it and Largo isn't. I think that was Clark spoofing around.

Saw Clark a couple of months ago at Indian Cove. He was in his usual good humor. Yeah, the illness was back but he seemed OK. Is there anyone who doesn't know him?
Several years ago, my g/f and I were climbing Graham Crackers. This was around the time of his first bout with the C. He wanted to say Hi to my g/f (not me, of course), so he soloed the Flower. When he got to us, he said he'd been feeling tired lately!

Hi everyone, My name is Jimmy Jacobs. I am Clark's brother. I have been searching for him for the last 6 months but have been unsuccessful.
I found this forum on my most recent Google search and was hoping someone here can help me out. It's important that I speak to him. If anyone has any information on his whereabouts, I would greatly appreciate any information that is passed on to me. If you come in contact with Clark, please let him know that his brother is looking for him.
I can be reached at: jamesjacobs1969@yahoo.com

Clark and his buddy were topping out on Lurking Fear the same day I was. Him and his buddy and myself spent the night on Thanksgiving together. I had a ton of extra food, so we made a big Pot Luck dinner and talked until the wee hours of morning. I ended up doing the whole descent with him. This all happened during the govt. shutdown 2013. Great Guy.

WOW!Where do I start I am a long time friend of clarks from Pasadena went to Wilson Junior High where I met Clark and then PHS where Clark & I ran cross-country together he soon got me interested in hiking and backpacking up to Mount Wilson toll road next thing I know we're talking about doing a two-week backpack in Yosemite hiking half the John Muir Trail starting at devil's post pile into Yosemite National Park on the last day that we were camping at Half Dome we hung our food between two trees with some other campers and in the middle of night we hear a big bang some other campers had lit off a cherry bomb because a big black bear was in the tree trying to get our food Clark stayed up all night watching the fire and the Bear in the tree mad about 4 in the morning I hear Clark yelling the bear is down ! I look up from my sleeping bag and the bear is running straight for me I panic covered my head the bear jumped right over me ! Next thing I know I hear are you all right ! I look up and its Clark smiling face ! And have many more stories like this if anybody can't get ahold of Clark I would like to see him please !! An old high-school friend & buddy Henry

Next thing I know I hear: "Are you all right?"
I'm betting even back then he had that sinister...evil....snicker that would indicate you better watch your ass because something is about to pop off....
Thanks for the story.
