25 years ago today, stone master Rick Accomazzo signed documents that incorporated the Access Fund as an independent organization. Rick is still an unwavering advocate for climbing access and donates significant pro bono legal work to the cause. A huge thank you to Rick and to all of those who have built the Access Fund into the great organization it is today!
We'll be celebrating our 25th anniversary throughout 2016 and will be having a big party and celebration in the Boulder area on October 22 -- save the date.

Thanks Rick, but I wonder when it comes to conservation is the organization up to taking some positions that might be unpopular with the current crowd of climbers in favor of those of the future?

Proud to know the guy.
Rick's an original Stonemaster, to this day a strong, sophisticated and generous advocate for climbing, and a really fun, smart guy, good for an enlightening, informative conversation about just about anything worth discussing.
Humble and low key, to boot. Respect!

AND, perhaps most importantly, Rick is one of the nicest guys on the planet! Has a lovely wife and great kids. Upstanding man, funny and kind. Oh, and is a secret surfer, as well! :-)
I am honored to call him a friend, as was Jack.

Ricky and Gerry are without a doubt some of the most special people on our planet. I am blessed to be able to call them friends. I didn't know this about Rick but I am in no way surprised. Thanks, Dude, for all you do with the Access Fund as well as so many other wonderful things both professionally and personally you pull off to make life better here on the planet. Cheers from lynnie and let's party on in the Sierra. :)

It was so cool to visit with Rick this summer after some 35-40 years since I had last seen him. Such an easy going, respectful, and inspiring person with loads of integrity. I'm sure that climbers for many years to come will appreciate the efforts Rick and his organization have put forth to preserve climbing area access. He's a great writer and a wealth of knowledge as well.
Thank you Rick!

I just got back from traveling and have finally a chance to respond. You’re all too kind; I am quite moved. Thank you.
It’s like being able to view in advance the eulogies on a future (I hope well in the future) RIP RA thread :)
However, the Access Fund’s post (thanks Brady or Joe!) might leave the incorrect impression that I was the prime mover in the founding of the Access Fund simply because I filed the legal papers. That was only because it was decided to file the papers in Colorado and I was a Colorado attorney. A whole host of people were instrumental in getting the AF started, including the original board of directors, staff, and financial contributors.
But if I had to name two people who were key to getting the organization rolling, I would nominate Armando Menocal and Randy Vogel. These guys worked incredibly hard in the first years, and their energy was the spark plug that started the engine.
I am in awe of how far the organization had come in 25 years. Under Brady Robinson’s leadership today, the volunteers, staff and contributors make for a lean, mean (when necessary), and highly effective climbing access and conservation machine.
My work with the AF in its early years is the accomplishment in climbing that I am most proud of. But it was mostly more fun than work because of the smart and capable people involved. The board meetings were a blast, even if the numbers of strong personalities and lawyers meant that the early ones had as much shouting as a Republican presidential debate!
Thanks again, everyone.

Rick was one of the key people in envisioning The Access Fund, and then worked tirelessly toward making making it a reality.
Rick is a class act, and often acted as the voice of reason in the sometimes heated debates over the direction the organization should pursue.
Congratulations on 25 years and a BIG thanks to Rick for all his contributions in making that possible.

Thanks Rick, and Armando, Randy and others, for all your hard work in getting the AF started and functional, and for showing the way for others! It's good to see climbers and mountaineers who accomplish good things not just as climbers, but in the community and their working lives.
And thanks also to a generous funder who kept the AF solvent in its early years!
