So, would you rather have the Warriors repeat as NBA Champions or go after the 72-10 season record by the Chicago Bulls?

The Warriors are going to need to rest their key players if they want to get the best out of them in the playoffs. Look at what happened in the NBA Finals last year. The Cavaliers played the Warriors tight for the first three quarters of each game, but ran out of gas in the last quarter because their key players were tired.

Of course, not having Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving was a factor, but that also caused the other Cavs to have to play more minutes and they just ran out of gas.

Rolling over the Thunder (121-106), stopping to admire Prince watching them play, though he didn't stick around for the OT, this team of destiny gets to play the Lakers on Sunday.
I can't drive 55 and 5.

Chasing history...

How the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors compare to the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who set the NBA single-season record with 72 wins.

1995-96 Bulls' record through 60 games: 54-6.

That seat he bought and only used half the game cost as much as some make in a week.

The bulls lost games 61, 68, 75, 81, so beating LA will put GS 2 ahead of the Bulls.

Three more games against SA, but I think Popovitch will rest his aging stars in at least 1 of those games as well as play some mind games.

Minor point, the okc overtime game was the one a few days earlier, (Sunday?) and That overtime show was amazing, fully worthy of the Jordon Bulls! Is that the one the purple one walked out on? Or was it the second half of the second one? I watched both and remember Prince being there, in at least one of them, but each time I was paying more attention to the game.

If I had the wherewithal to be at either of those games, I would have watched the whole thing!

Prince on the other hand, can always hire both teams to reenact whatever parts he missed!

Updated Odds Of The Warriors Going 73-9
By KYLE WAGNER

I mean, probably? NOAH GRAHAM / NBAE VIA GETTY IMAGES
With the NBA regular season winding down, the Golden State Warriors are 66-7 and need to go 7-2 over their final nine games to break the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ record for most wins in a season. We have a guess for how this will play out: Our CARM-Elo prediction system says Golden State has about a 66 percent chance of getting there. But we’d be lying if we didn’t say that handicapping the Warriors’ run to 73 is just as uncertain now as it was a few months ago.

Our CARM-Elo NBA predictions use a combination of a team’s (pre-season) personnel and its past performance to estimate its relative strength. For most of the season it has tended to have the Warriors as a little more likely to run up on Michael’s Bulls than other prediction systems.1

As the season winds down, those predictions become less abstract and might seem to take on more tangible meaning. It ought to be easier to predict a team going 7-2 than 25-5, right? But there’s a circular sort of logic to forecasting like this. On the one hand, when the finish line was further out, any effects of late-season lineup-fiddling from the Warriors or their opponents were aggregated over many games. The system doesn’t know that Stephen Curry may sit down in the final week of the regular season because the Warriors secured a 1-seed, or because of a sore hamstring, or because of a bad run-in with room service sushi. But the estimated effect of a game or two without the MVP is smaller in the context of a full season. This can make forecasts from months out feel more precise, less vulnerable to natural rhythms of the season.

On the other hand, it takes a certain kind of willful omnipotent to guarantee that a team’s basic state — three healthy stars and the supporting constellations mostly intact — will remain unmolested by fate. The long-term outlook is always vulnerable to genuine surprise.

As it stands, with nine games remaining, we know the state of the Warriors going into this stretch — a little banged up, but still plenty good. We can be relatively certain there aren’t any big surprises left in the season, just the series of little ones we always knew were coming: The tension between chasing the record and run-of-the-mill rest before the playoffs, plus some nagging injuries to rotation players and the need to bonk the rust off of a few guys coming back from longer-term absences.

WINS AT LEAST THIS MANY WINS EXACTLY THIS MANY WINS
68 >99% <1%
69 >99 <1
70 >99 2
71 97 8
72 89 23
73 66 34
74 33 25
75 8 8
Chances the Warriors finish with:
Now that we’ve arrived at the precipice, though, the step from 72 to 73 wins seems as large as ever. Our model thinks the Warriors have an 89 percent chance to at least tie the Bulls’ record at 72 wins, but those odds fall 23 percentage points, to 66 percent, for 73 or more wins; 74 or more wins is a 33 percent proposition, but let’s not go getting greedy now. These projections also assume teams will play to win, which is uncertain for the Warriors, who can probably coast to a 1-seed, as well as their opponents, who will deal with all the typical late-season machinations for playoff seeding or draft position.

By all appearances, however, Golden State is fixing to up and do this thing.

Coach Steve Kerr said last week that the Warriors won’t be backing down from the chase, at least as long as the players want it. “Yeah, this whole idea of setting a record does make things a little trickier,” he said. “It’s the players who are setting a record. It’s not the organization. It’s the players who are doing it. So they will absolutely have some say in matters down the stretch in terms of how we approach everything.”

I do think the Warriors, not the Spurs, are the team to beat. I agree the Spurs are the largest road block for the Dubs, but this thread title is either gonna be right or ironic as hell come June.

Spurs and Warriors in Western Conf Finals should be an awesome series...unless OKC steps up to Timmy and the boys in the second round...not impossible.

Scottie Pippen is likely right. Those Bulls would beat the Warriors. That doesn't mean the Warriors suck, far from it.

The major reason? Michael Jordans' unstoppable offense? Nope.

Defense. Socttie Pippen and Micheal Jordan are the only back court in recent times that could not only play the entire game, but shut down 2 guards completely. Draymon Green benefits from the fact that due to their range, Steph and Klay spread the floor more than any other due since way before the Jordan Bulls.

In a series, the Warriors win a few but the Bulls take the series. Steph is awesome, like video game awesome, but he doesn't have to guard Michael Jordan every day either.....

People today who didn't watch the games back then have no idea how complete that team was. They had it ALL. Offense defense..inside and outside, fast breaks and set play. Folks also forget how good the Jazz were back then ..Maybe the second best team in NBA history. Stockton Malone Hornacek..

Climbski,

That's exactly my point. I only mentioned Jordan and Pippen, but we are talking about the addition of Dennis Rodman (another Hall of Famer and quite possibly the most underrated player in the the NBA), Steve Kerr and Ron Harper (only to name a few).

The Golden State Warriors are indeed awesome, but from a team-based perspective, I don't think they would have much of a chance against the 95-96 Bulls because they've never had to play in the manner needed to compete with a team like the Bulls.

This sort of thing has been an NBA problem for decades. Established stars get the benefit of the doubt on the charge/block, traveling, and against whom to charge the foul. The NBA is, after all, entertainment. They have less to sell if their stars can't play. As calls evolved to make traveling an optional violation and basketball a contact sport, they put a very great deal of discretion in the refs' hands.

GS knows how to handle Lebron (see Iguodala,MVP 2015 Finals). Lets see if Lebron shows up with a team this time.

As for Houston, Harden will do his usual drive the lane with elbows flying and get the foul calls.

#1 in the league in foul shot attempts, Harden with 837
#2 is DeMarcus Cousins with 663
Steph Curry 394

Certainly some truth there, but the refs don't have nearly as much discretion when somebody just chucks the ball into the hoop from 30' again and again. Curry breaking his own record of 286 3-pointers with this year's 402 belongs more on the thread about aliens on earth than it does here! That level of long range accuracy is truly an all time phenomenon and not materially altered by any rule changes since the 90s.

Don't get me started on Bison, but the Clippers are actually the Buffalo Braves masquerading as a boat.

The Lakers are actually from Bob Dylan's home town of Duluth which is not in Santa Monica, and whether the Lakers actually ball anymore is an open question.

The Sacramento (not in Santa Monica either) Kings are really the Rochester Royals (though they would have preferred Orioles, but that name was taken).

Hear these guys in that Tarentino film about royalty and whether or not the California 3-team story is indeed Pulp Fiction.

Like I said, strong performances by Klay (27) and Bogut (15,14) as well as the whole "second" unit were instrumental.

Speaking of elBrown.

Careers are measured in championships, not getting to the championship. There’s no getting around this, James cannot win an argument about Jordan’s six titles or Kobe Bryant’s five. Forget the notion of Russell’s 11.

Biggest ommisson? Kareem (6)

Cousy (6)? Pippen (6)?

Others (seasons, titles)

Sam Jones* G/F 12 10
Tom Heinsohn* F/C 9 8
K. C. Jones* G 9 8
Tom "Satch" Sanders F 13 8
John Havlicek* F/G 16 8

And what of Wilt? Sadly only two. Same for Walton (one as sixth man), probably the most injured player in history.

BTW, did you notice Kobe's new advertising career?

Flagrant? Normal speed I said no. Slomo, hell yes. BB wasn't shooting, he was clearing him out.

How about QuickSilver Klay. I'll email it to Curry.

What a win! Each OKC player has a small carry on filled with 'emotional letdown' that they must flyto Oakland with today. Warriors played like champs with Klay Thompson almost willing the team to victory.

Game 7 should be a fun affair with a crazy crowd noise factor.

There is no truth to the rumor that Steve Kerr played with DT Trump. In fact he went to Pali (within short walking distance from my bros' house on El Medio).

I'd forgotten, but Kiki Vandeweghe also attended Pali and I played with him at Pauley. He was not John Wooden quick, but his first step (which is really all a good shooter needs) was as good as anyone. Some say better.

I observed this myself, but Pete Newell concurs. The book is Playing Big, but I can't cut and paste. Wish I'd met him when I was in high school.

"There is simply no way to stop him," says his teammate and close friend Clyde Drexler. If the defender crowds him, Vandeweghe will drive to the basket with a quick first step in either direction that belies his reputation for being superglued to the floor on defense. Give him room and he'll shoot you dead with his outside shot, an amalgam of modern-day jumper and old-fashioned one-hander. He's effective on the break (where he's one of the most underrated dunkers in the league), and he moves intelligently without the ball in the half-court offense.

Never saw him dunk, but he's 6' 8", so of course. No fade-away that I recall.

NOT that it matters, but Klay's toe may have been on the line @1:09.

Gettting back to Curtis.

What the Hell Happened to...Curtis Rowe?

After being drafted by the Pistons in the 1971 draft with the 11th overall pick, Rowe did show some promise. He had 5 pretty solid years with the Pistons, playing more than 80 games each year, helping Detroit to make the playoffs 3 different times and even making the All Star team in 1976, right before Boston acquired him

It appears that he used some of Nate's Rogaine too.

In the immortal words of Don Hubbard

In Rowe, the Celtics picked up one of the most selfish players in their history, sacrificing the leadership, toughness and rebounds Silas brought to the court. Most vexing, Rowe was a guy who seemingly only cared about individual statistics and yet habitually failed in this endeavor, rarely ranking as a top player in any NBA category.

Nice pre-game, zBrown.

AC Green was always one of my favorite Lakers, along with Magic and Rambo.
A.C. Green's bear is trying to speak to young people.

"Is that your bear, Wilt?"

Making a List
By Tim Keown
ESPN The Magazine

A.C. Green is wearing a bear doll on his head while he sits on the bench during the NBA playoffs. He is doing this to promote sexual abstinence among young people.

Now, there's a twist in our sporting culture it's safe to say none of us saw cresting over the horizon.

Hard to imagine, but Green's action allows us to say that Phil Jackson did not coach his nuttiest power forward while with the Bulls.

Suppose another player has a message, maybe a different message. Suppose this message isn't tied to a charitable foundation, and suppose it's not as right-wing preachy as Green's cause.

Let's say it's a message extolling the virtues of handgun ownership. Would the league -- the league that fines players for sock length and untucked shirts -- allow it?

Suppose someone on the Pacers decides that America's youth should eat more tuna. Maybe his uncle owns a fleet of tuna boats, so this player decides to wear a tuna on his head to promote the consumption of tuna. Would that fly?

Of course, it's hard to argue with the power of Green's message. After all, wearing a bear doll while in uniform pretty much guarantees celibacy.

Could't let this one pass. Dumb ass statement.

The Thunder outplayed the Warriors, but lost to math

The team that wins the series outplays the one that loses, unless there is a default.

Do folks that write this stuff get paid?

Manages to get get in all the dumb ass catchwords in use in one sentence.

Oklahoma City put itself in position to win both games by relentlessly attacking the offensive boards and protecting the paint with its length, athleticism and physicality.

Some folks just don't get it and what about their spirituality and oxygenationality?

Keven (they call me free agent) D. is not exempt.

"They beat us from the three-point line the last two games. We beat them from everywhere else," Durant said. "That was the series."

There is a big old scoreboard there in the arena. They should have tried looking up at it, instead of praying they were gonna miss. No way Adams can come close to guarding Curry on the perimeter, even without a sore dick.

They should have noticed that each one of those shots beyond the line that went in put three points on it. Since the Thunder lost to math, they should just be thankful that each score didn'put up an ∞ number.

I'm reluctant to provide this fool any traffic, but here it is.

The Thunder is really a great team. I feel bad for Durant and Company. I really do hope he wins a title soon. They pushed Golden State to the brink over and over.

But the Warriors didn't just fall into the finals through dumb luck, that's ridiculous.

The final score is the final score. That's the way all sports have been measured since like forever. That's why they have the big blinky digital thing hanging in every arena. Too bad for OKC. Back to the drawing board boys!

Special night. Walked into Gabe's Tavern and Adolf was thinking of closing, since he'd had no business until I got there. Everyone was at BBQs drinking their own beer.

So I had a prime seat in front of the box until the second half, when folks showed up.

These four were UC Merced students and grad students. They ordered a drink called a mihilada, which needs 32 ozs. of Bud draft, either clamahto (I say clamayto) juice or tomahto (again, I say tomayto), several green stuffed olives to loll around in the bottom like little prizes, and pepper and tabasco. I ended up polishing off two after my first brew, which I'd nursed through the first half.

After the victory, I celebrated at the Public House with another beer and then someone bought me a glass of wine.

I fell off the bike trying to get on it to ride home, ended up walking it and feeling GLORIOUS. I slept till almost noon.

Do the math. 12 + 64 + 16 = 92 ozs. Probably a record but I keep no stats on my vices.

Sorry to bust your bubble, Mouse, but 32 oz of Bud only equals 12 oz of beer. :p

Lazy at-home version: 24 oz can of Modelo Chelada + pepperoncini = amazing. Tear the top off the pepperoncini, dump the juice in the beer, then stuff the pepper in the mouth of the can, too. Best thing ever after a couple hours of yardwork in the sun.

Well, what is Las Vegas (shout out to Reggie Theus) saying about the Cleveland Cabriolets vs. the Oakland (nee Frisco, The City, San Francisco) No-Worriers?

Shortly after the Warriors defeated the Thunder in Game 7 on Monday night, Golden State was named a -185 favorite to win the title by the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. Cleveland was given +165 betting odds, but the betting public quickly threw their support behind the team that won 73 games in the regular season. The Warriors’ odds increased to -230, and the Cavs became a +200 underdog in their quest for revenge from last season.

I used to yell at Dick Vitale thru the TV. Even had Shaq threaten him ("dance, tenderfoot").

The takeaway, you cannot shut Vitale up.

Mr. College Basketball” is so popular now that it’s hard to imagine college hoops without his over the top personality and legendary screaming into the microphone. Luckily for college hoops fans, Vitale’s brief NBA coaching career was unsuccessful, but he still serves as a footnote in the history of the Pistons, and ironically, that of the Celtics as well. [2012]

Interesting typo here.

Vitale was axed in odd fashion. Team owner Bill Davidson showed up at his Dick’s house unannounced and told him the news in his kitchen. Vitale’s NBA coaching career was over after 94 games and just 34 victories. The 1979-1980 team would go on to win just 16 games in the worst season in Pistons history.

In 1997 the Utah Jazz had the best regular season record and breezed through the western conference playoffs. Chicago struggled and endured some tough series before finally winning the east and another trip to the finals. The Jazz had 11 days off between winning the west and the first game of the finals and were never as sharp in the finals.

Of course Michael Jordan had a lot to do with that but I always felt that the long layoff hurt the Jazz and that they may have had a better chance if they didn't have such a long wait. Practice is one thing, but intense game situations is another.

So I wonder if Cleveland's relatively easy romp through the east and their subsequent layoff will actually hurt their chances?

OAKLAND, Calif. -- He's an unlikely bully, that Stephen Curry.

"He looks like he's 12," says his coach, Steve Kerr.

But here he is, strangling the NBA with his bare hands.

A title, 73 wins, 402 3-pointers, stratospheric favorable ratings among an adoring public, the top-selling jersey, the top-selling shoe. The young fan is enraptured, and the older fan reawakened to the wonders of basketball. Who knew it could be like this?

TrueHoop Presents: What Steph's status means for LeBron
Kevin Arnovitz explores the battle for NBA supremacy between LeBron James and MVP Stephen Curry.

2016 NBA Finals: Complete coverage
Will Golden State repeat? Will LeBron bring a ring to Cleveland? Follow the title chase with our coverage.
Nobody can stop Steph, not two on the ball, not the agile big man on the switch, not a generation of retired curmudgeons who preceded him and insist he couldn't survive in the NBA cage match of yesteryear, and not the superstars of this era who define "valuable" differently and want order restored to a time not so long ago, when the dominant wing lorded his talents over the basketball world.

A month ago, it looks as if they've all ducked the bully, at least for the time being. As his teammates rush through the tunnel at the Moda Center in Portland to and from warmups, a hobbled Curry can be found loitering outside the locker room in sweatpants and flip-flops after laboring through a game of two-on-two against his assistant coaches hours before Game 3 tipoff. Then two nights later, the Game 4 explosion -- 40 points off the bench, 17 in overtime alone.

Across the country, LeBron James has mounted his own spring offensive, not so much against the middling Eastern Conference bracket -- which he has dispatched in 14 games over six weeks -- but against the weight of this strange upheaval. Where did this damn league lose its bearings?

Even the commissioner can hardly contain himself as he delivers his annual State of the League address before Game 1 of the Finals in Oakland. Adam Silver delivers a paean to Curry as he gushes about the transformation of the game: Steph is Roger Bannister breaking the four-minute mile. Steph has shattered "a psychological barrier" that has kept shooters from reaching Steph-like heights. Steph "changes the whole dynamic of our game. I tell you, it's just incredibly exciting." Curry might not have blown up the first basketball, but Silver spends nearly two minutes enumerating how the MVP has inflated the past million.

Then it's time for LeBron's tribute.

"I think what he from a physical standpoint is able to do, just his size, his strength, his speed, again, I think this is just a delight for basketball fans everywhere."

With that, the commissioner opens it up to questions.

LEBRON JAMES HAS a lot on his mind these days. He'd like an audience, not to see him perform or listen to him beef, but to help him think the game aloud.

"He's such a cerebral player," teammate Richard Jefferson says. "When he comes out of the game and sits down between us, he knows he can sit there and talk basketball, talk shop."

Sport talk. May the best brain win.

The attention on this much-hyped team revolves around the Warriors’ Klay Thompson and Steph Curry, and their disconcerting habit of shooting and floating back down court with their wrists curled, as though they’d just put a check in the mail.

Last night, however, it was the Warriors’ defense that devastated. Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green and Thompson have preternaturally sure and quick hands, repeatedly stripping Cavalier players of the ball. Even Curry, whom Green calls “the mouse in the house,” plays a scrappy defense.

What about that off shooting night for the stars? Curry, the loose-jointed hip cat, shrugged. The Cavs wanted to stop him and Thompson so they kept swinging the ball. “You take the defensive aggression,” Curry said, “and kind of work it against them.”

That was Zen enough to make Phil Jackson smile.

James eschews talk of the metaphysical. He is 31, with hundreds of thousands of miles on his odometer. He can feel mortality’s breath on his neck. “We’re not a team that loses our composure,” he said. “I'm looking forward to seeing the film session and seeing ways we can get better.”

It’s impossible not to admire his passion, just as it’s easy to see that this player and his fine team face a climb up an imposing cliff wall.

A climb up an imposing cliff wall. Finally recognition of the bona fide sport.

It does help to have a deeper bench all right.

However, apparently the lighting is better in Cleveland.

CAVs 3-pointer playoff% at home = 45%, at South Berkeley = 27.3%

It's simple. They have to shoot and make more 3-pointers.

Get Reggie Miller on the line and offer him a 1 week contract.

Golden State Warriors: 3-point kings now, they strenuously opposed the new NBA rule in 1979

By Bruce Newman, bnewman@bayareanewsgroup.com
POSTED: 06/07/2016 03:07:23 PM PDT
UPDATED: 06/08/2016 02:55:53 AM PDT

As the Golden State Warriors make their bid for a second consecutive NBA championship, their dominance over opponents is built resolutely upon the 3-point shot. For the defending champs and their two-time MVP, Stephen Curry, the 3-point shot has been, quite literally, a game-changer.

But in the most delicious irony of the team's storied run, when the three was adopted by a vote of NBA owners in 1979, the franchise most vehemently opposed to rewarding basketball's bomb throwers with an extra point was the Golden State Warriors.

Franklin Mieuli, who owned the team for 24 years, stalked out of the rule-change meeting in disgust, threatening never to return if the vote was final. "Changing the 2-point basket is immoral," Mieuli thundered. "We have separated ourselves from the main body of basketball by tampering with a game that has lasted for 90 years. ... We are going to destroy the team concept." Mieuli died in 2010, at the end of Curry's rookie season, and never got to see how truly wrong he was.

As the Warriors obliterated the NBA record with 1,077 3-pointers this season, Curry made one of those leaps that forces everyone else to reconsider their understanding of the game's limits.

He made 402 threes, which the astonished authors of a statistical analysis in The New York Times attempted to put in some kind of larger context. "The record is an outlier that defies most comparisons," they noted, presenting a chart of the 752 top individual 3-point shooting seasons in NBA history, "but here is one: It is the equivalent of hitting 103 home runs in a Major League Baseball season."

The rule change that Mieuli so despised was a holdover from the old ABA -- a league prone to using gimmicks, such as a red, white and blue ball -- after it merged with the NBA in 1976. "The NBA believed in trying to get the ball as close to the basket as you possibly could," recalls Al Attles, who was the Warriors' coach when the 3-point rule was enacted. "So it really changed the whole landscape of the league."

Attles was a teammate of Wilt Chamberlain's the night "the Big Dipper" scored 100 points in a single game, rarely straying more than a few feet from the basket. The league widened the free-throw lane to push Chamberlain away from the rim, but Attles doesn't see any way the rules makers can put the genie back in the bottle and stop Curry.

Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry (30) gestures as his teammate Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson (11) shoots and makes a three-point

"You can handcuff him in the locker room," Attles says. "I don't know what else you can do. Maybe you say, 'OK, you can only dribble the ball two times.' But you can't keep legislating against players. You have to let players play."

Players gonna play, but in the beginning, shooters weren't necessarily gonna shoot the three. Boston's Larry Bird, who was considered one of the NBA's finest long-range marksmen of the 1980s, only averaged three attempts or more per game once in his career. "I can remember if a guy was out at the 3-point line, you wouldn't even go out there and challenge him," Bird told ESPN.com. "We dared them to shoot that shot."

Nearly a century of orthodoxy held that any shot longer than 20 feet -- the 3-point line in the NBA is 22 feet deep in the corners, and 23 feet, 9 inches near midcourt -- had so little chance of success that it wasn't worth practicing. "When it first came in," Attles says, "it was horrendous. Guys really didn't have the ability to shoot the ball from that distance."

Even "Downtown" Freddie Brown of the Seattle SuperSonics, who came prefitted with a perfect nickname for the shot, didn't care for it. "What a lot of people don't realize is that basketball isn't meant to be played from that far out," Brown said at the time.

The thinking of most players had begun to change long before Curry and fellow "Splash Brother" Klay Thompson went into constant launch mode this season. A few even became known as 3-point specialists, though they were rarely given the green light until their coaches needed to overcome a late deficit.

But no one had ever done what Curry did this season, jacking up 240 more 3-point attempts than the previous season -- a 50 percent increase. The Warriors made the most 3-pointers in NBA history this season, averaging 13.1 per game. By contrast, the Los Angeles Lakers scored 13 threes during their entire 1981-82 championship season. And Curry demolished every known record for what the Sabermetrics geeks call Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%).

Though not officially recognized by the NBA, eFG percentage is a formula that attempts to account for the added value of the extra point scored. "If you shoot 40 percent on threes," explains Mike Lynch of Basketball-Reference.com, "that's the same as shooting 60 percent on twos."

During the regular season, Curry had a .630 eFG percentage, surpassing Adrian Dantley (.580) for the all-time record among scorers who averaged 30 or more points. Even without the added e-bump, his unadorned 3-point percentage was 45.4. "The more threes you shoot, generally the more you lose efficiency," Lynch says. "He's putting up insane numbers, and he's not really sacrificing much in terms of accuracy."

Go figger. How from from the center of the basket, is the outer circle at midcourt (at it's closest point to the basket)?

Hint: The center of the ring (as we knowledgeable folks call it) is 4' 9" from the baseline.

If someone (say e.g. Reggie) mocks his defender with a "face, that's gonna be nothing buttnet" and the ball touches the rim (synonym for ring) should it only count for 2.5 or maybe 2.66 points?

By this simple comparison, I'm betting that Rogaine works successfully only half the time amongst white Hall O Fame coaches.

Anyway, back to roundball.

The best-of-seven game series will follow a 2-2-1-1-1 format with the Golden State Warriors securing home court advantage.

Wouldn't it just piss off the fanz, if they moved the final game in a 3-3 tie to a neutral court?

How about an outside game on:

USS Midway (closer than going to the island)
USS Carl Vinson (not Carl Wilson, Love's 'sortof' relative)
USS Yorktown (historical tie-in back to before bball even existed)
USS Bataan (Sketchy - Death March?)

I want to see who the real playground (though some of my friends called it 'ghetto')* ballers are.

Sneeky peak. Probably the realist, this "Black Jesus" fellow.

Hi Brian,

He did make that shot, in the 3rd quarter,

Too high, too far from the basket

Stretch and dunk

James in team huddle just prior to 3rd game: "Follow my lead and do your (expletive) jobs."

Irving said James' words helped him realize "the magnitude of what's about to happen, going out there and battling, understanding that we're being led by a great player. We all understood that. We all know our roles. We know what to expect from one another, but the platform we're on, understanding the moment, he does a great job of dialing us in."

I live in Cleveland and am a Cavs fan but that does not keep me from observing how teams play. The Warriors are very good, but what I notice is that they don't often lose their team play, so they play above the sum of their parts, whereas the Thunder and the Cavs both can lose their team play. Only a few players can make points taking on the other team alone: Curry can do it way outside; James can do it in traffic.

We also notice that the Cavs are James' team while the Warriors are just the Warriors. I think that that is a benefit to the Warriors.

Interestingly, when the Raptors played the Cavs in Cleveland and got creamed, their coach commented “LeBron is a computer,” Casey said. “You show him one thing and he’s going to pick you apart.” That does not mean that James always shoots well, but he always seems to know how to play basketball. I suspect that Curry and Thompson are the same. Then it comes down to next in line: I think that the Cavs are disadvantaged in this regard.

When you look at how well both teams did during the year, it is telling that they both struggled in the final four and now in the finals, sort of inexplicity so. Hopefully both will struggle some more. If the Cavs win on Friday, the playoffs are likely to be interesting. The playoffs are such a head game. But as climbers, we know all about that.

It doesn't appear that the charts I'm looking for exist, but these are kind of interesting.

Steph Curry shot chart last season.

About the first quarter of this season.

The percentage of Curry’s attempts in that mid-range area now account for only 9.4 percent of his total shots, and he’s hitting them at a much higher rate. He’s even more efficient at the rim despite attempting them at a nearly identical rate to last season. And now more than half his attempts, 54.9 percent, are threes, compared to 47.6 last season. So he’s taking more threes than last year and hitting them at a higher rate and cut back taking shots in the areas where he was least efficient a season ago.

As Luke Walton says:

“By shooting and making those threes, it opens up the court for everyone else. Defenses have to put two guys on him 25 feet from the basket. It allows our other guys to get open looks and driving lanes. It’s not like we went up to Steph and told him to shoot more threes. He’s just gotten better and he’s choosing to do that.”

No Love lost? Some dude named zHowe.

Must have read my column.

Love could serve as the fulcrum of a revamped bench offense, and he'll get the ball more in that set-up that he ever will starting alongside Irving and LeBron. There is only one ball, as the kids say. Love still brings enough value as third option that bringing him off the bench won't necessarily turn him into Cleveland's version of Enes Kanter.

Love can shoot 3s, crash the offensive boards and toss smart passes all over the floor. If he hangs with Iguodala or Barnes on defense and busts it in transition, he can earn extra minutes with Cleveland's A-team at the end of each half.

Love has been ineffective in the post, but the Cavs will probably need his bully-ball at some point. They finally caught Golden State scrambling away from 3-point shooters in Game 3, but the Warriors will lock back in on defense Friday night. That was probably their worst defensive performance in a game that actually mattered all season. They have already shown that their switching scheme allows them to play Cleveland's pick-and-rolls one-on-one, negating the need for any help defenders to crash into the lane -- and stray from the Cavs' army of shooters.

I do not know where their (the "Cabrios") minds went in the middle of the Qtr4, maybe they started thinking they were back n Kansas.

Both Curry and Thompson have an amazingly quick release. I think Curry is a bit quicker off the dribble, maybe a tie otherwise.

Speaking of Magic, how about The Warriors with Magic bringing the ball up the court. With his vision, size and passing - look out - C&T maybe could get 27 three's. Did I mention that he'd just score it himself if they tried to sandbag?

James was certainly trying to get rises out of Green and Curry near the end; desperation, I guess.

I respectfully disagree. I think it was pure frustration. He wasn't having his best game, Love didn't step up, and the Warriors were playing more physical than they often do.

Couldn't remember whether Steph was 6' 3'' or 6' 2" (Michele asks these questions - "he's a short little guy, how tall is he").

It's Seth that's 6' 2" and Wardell (weird what you can find out) is ironically from Ohio (Akron). I remember what Chrissie said about that one.

Why not, no game until Monday, right?

I will observe that CAVs shot 24% on three's (6-25 vs 17-36) and 57.7% (15-26 vs 25-31) on freethrows.

Game differential 11. With essentially no G time.

“At the end of the day, the man stepped on his head,” Warriors forward Marreese Speights said.

That’s not all the Warriors are frustrated by. They haven’t taken kindly to James telling the world that Green’s comments toward James, “went a little overboard.”

Or, as Klay Thompson put it on Sunday, “I'm just kind of shocked some guys take it so personal. It's like, I mean, you know, it's a man's league and I've heard a lot of bad things on that court, but at the end of the day it stays on the court."

That’s not all the Warriors are peeved about. A few players are under the impression that James lobbied the league to get Green suspended, as a means of ducking an opponent. Maybe James was merely being honest when speaking with NBA investigators, but that narrative is less compelling at Warriors HQ.

Upon hearing Thompson’s “man’s league,” response, Speights went further, saying, “For real, bro. You lose respect for guys like that. If you a player in this league you want to compete for a championship, you going to have to play. Don't try to get nobody suspended. You supposed to be the best in the league. You supposed to be the best in the world. Prove it.”

James can't prove it tonight.

I expected the suspension given Greens past but especially considering what's potentially at stake ratings wise. Terrible decision though I think. Best thing to do now is win tonight. Apparently not too much.

"Handicapping the Warriors without Green is very tricky because he's only missed seven games in his four-year career, which is absolutely ridiculous. For what it's worth, Green sat out one game this regular season for rest and Golden State lost a 112-110 decision at Denver in mid-January and they were beat handily on the glass (59-45).

You know, I was puzzled by Lebron in the last game. He was making the first step, getting into the lane with a head of steam and kicking the ball out. Again and again. Why was he not making another step (then a few more to take advantage of the fact that they no longer call traveling) and either get the slam or go to the line? It was not the defense. It was not because his teammates were shooting 50% from the perimeter.

Blame Draymond Green for letting the team down if you want. But among the folks actually available on Monday night to help the Golden State Warriors polish off their historic season, no one disappointed more than two-time MVP Stephen Curry.

He didn't have to be as big and brash as Green. He didn't even need to pick up more leadership responsibility with Green suspended for cumulative playoff flagrant-foul points.

Curry just had to be himself, and it would've created enough of a comfort zone at home for his teammates to finish off these NBA Finals. Curry couldn't even manage that much.

And for a superstar on the spot, that's coming up quite a bit shy.

The upshot of the Cleveland Cavaliers' 112-97 Game 5 victory is the Warriors aren't champs again yet, and they might well not be until Game 7 on Sunday.

The potential do-or-die contest being back in Oakland means the Warriors aren't in trouble. It's still unlikely Cleveland wins this series, as three consecutive epic efforts—with the final one being on the road—are way too much to ask.

Still, it is surprising that we are even here talking about that possibility.

Eric Risberg/Associated Press

The Warriors openly acknowledge they are wired to lose focus unless they feel challenged. It's time to wonder how much of that character flaw is Curry's.

If that sounds preposterous for a guy who just repeated as NBA MVP, let's look at it this way: Who do you think has more killer instinct, Curry or Green?

They are the two Warriors leaders, so if you agree that it's Green who pushes that point more, then it's an indictment of Curry by default.

And Game 5 was a golden opportunity for Curry to contradict his appearance and go baby-faced gangster on LeBron James for stepping over Green and drawing him into a fracas that led to the suspension.

Yet time after time, Curry got open looks and flat-out missed.

One game after Curry used physicality better than James did, James used shooting better than Curry did—which was even more surprising to see.

In one sequence, Curry missed the sort of shot his team expects him to make, then he got roasted on defense…and then proceeded to make a tone-deaf gesture urging his teammates to keep after it.

The occasions where Curry tried to go solo for difficult shots everyone is OK with him taking at times felt awkward. His feel for the moment was off. He was, in the words of Warriors coach Steve Kerr, in "a little bit of a hurry."

Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving's 41-point night had James praising his 24-year-old teammate for his "calm," which made it even more noticeable that Curry wasn't more composed.

Strange Days (The Doors said that).

SD local sports page went through six paragraphs praising LeBronco (now don't go all OJ on me) before mentioning Kyrie (rhymes with Irie, no), "Irving was plenty sharp , too".

What? Didn't he shoot 70.8%, 71.4% on 3 pointers (1 more than LB), have 1 block to LB's 3, 6 assists to LB's 7? Yes LB had 16 boards, but aren't big men supposed get a lot?

The game is on ABC at 5pst, so it's free. Can even get it over-the-air if you have an antenna with digital tuner and are close to an ABC station.

Otherwise, every bay area restaurant, pizza joint, sports bar with a big screen will have it.

Streaming of over the air stations used to be a possibility, but all those sites have been closed down now.

LeBron James put on an epic performance to claim his third title, helping Cleveland end its 52-year drought of professional titles. But just how unbelievable was King James?

The four-time league MVP led all players in the Finals in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals -- the first player to do so in a playoff series.

James also became the third player in NBA history to put up a triple-double in Game 7, finishing with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

And then there's being down 3-1.

Best Finals since '98.

Among other things, a player cannot touch the ball when it is on it's downward arc. The shot also has to have a chance of being a score to be called goaltending. It is impermissible to trap the ball on the backboard, but it can be batted against it as long as it it hasn't touched the backboard (above the rim, though).

Somewhat to the right of the second ball on the left, so to speak.

Interestingly enough, it appears that Cruz was right, that round thing is actually called 'the basket ring". Without getting to semantic and/or metaphysical one needs to be aware of and concerned with the imaginary cone.

RULE NO. 11-BASKETBALL INTERFERENCE-GOALTENDING

Section I-A Player Shall Not:
a. Touch the ball or the basket ring when the ball is using the basket ring as its lower base.

EXCEPTION: If a player near his own basket has his hand legally in contact with the ball, it is not a violation if his contact with the ball continues after the ball enters the cylinder, or if, in such action, he touches the basket.

b. Touch the ball when it is above the basket ring and within the imaginary cylinder.
c. For goaltending to occur, the ball, in the judgment of the official, must have a chance to score.
d. During a field goal attempt, touch a ball after it has touched any part of the backboard above ring level, whether the ball is considered on its upward or downward flight.
e. During a field goal attempt, touch a ball after it has touched the backboard below the ring level and while the ball is on its upward flight.
f. Trap the ball against the face of the backboard. (To be a trapped ball, three elements must exist simultaneously. The hand, the ball and the backboard must all occur at the same time. A batted ball against the backboard is not a trapped ball.)
g. Touch any live ball from within the playing area that is on its downward flight with an opportunity to touch the basket ring. This is considered to be a "field goal attempt" or trying for a goal.
h. Touch the ball at any time with a hand which is through the basket ring.
i. Vibrate the rim or backboard so as to cause the ball to make an unnatural bounce.

PENALTY: If the violation is at the opponent's basket, the offended team is awarded two points, if the attempt is from the two point zone and three points if it is from the three point zone. The crediting of the score and subsequent procedure is the same as if the awarded score has resulted from the ball having gone through the basket, except that the official shall hand the ball to a player of the team entitled to the throw-in. If the violation is at a team's own basket, no points can be scored and the ball is awarded to the offended team at the free throw line extended on either sideline. If there is a violation by both teams, play shall be resumed by a jump ball between any two opponents at the center circle.

I watched the film of Lebron blocking Iguodala's layup and could not see it--it is really fast. So I captured a series of screenshots to show the progression.

This is what our very own Ian Crouch wrote about the play in the NewYorker this afternoon. the-unlikelihood-of-rooting-for-lebron-james (I am not in the camp of unlikly fans rooting for James.)

The game is tied 89 to 89:

With the Warriors’ swingman Andre Iguodala charging down the court for a crucial layup, James swooped in from behind, perfectly timing his jump and pinning the ball against the backboard for a resounding block. On the replay, you could almost see James visualizing exactly what would happen, where his hand would be when it mattered.

James (left) J.R.Smith (Right)
Curry (left) Iguodala (Right)

Curry's pass to Iguodala forces J.R.Smith to pivot. He cannot stay in front of Iguodala but he does does interfere.

James is still on the floor when Iguodala has jumped.

James and Iguodala are travelling down court at about the sames speed, but James is higher and reaching with arm outstretched as if he knew where Iguodala's shot would be at the instance he (James) arrived.

After James has smashed the ball into the backboard, the ball slides right and James pulls his hand back before it catches on the edge of the backboard. You can see this in the slow motion clip below.

After all of the cutting and pasting, here is a slow motion of the block.

This is worth watching just for the improbability of it all.Slow motion video of block

Reilly,

Last year in one of the playoff games, I sat on the floor just behind the basket, courtesy of a friend with company tickets and no customers to entertain. James did one of his superman jumps for a layup on the left side, shifted the ball from right hand to left, released the ball and ducked slightly on the downward arch with his head about 3 inches from the edge of the backboard. What was interesting was watching James eyes during this flight: he looked at everything in sequence: defender (hand shift); rim (release); edge of backboard (duck). There was a slightly alarmed expression on his face when he looked at the edge of the blackboard. As the Raptors coach said, he is a computer.

Just by using the forward and pause buttons on the original video I posted and stepping through it, it's pretty clear that the ball did not hit the backboard before Mr. James pinned it.

If you right click on the video in Roger's link and turn on the controls you can step through similarly and the close-up angle appears much clearer.

Pretty darn sure the ball did not hit the backboard. Even if it had, was there a referee's perception that it would have gone in?

EDIT:

So I downloaded the vid and slowed it down even more, still looks like daylight between the ball and the backboard.

You'd think they could generate some more appropriate video angles what with all the advertising revenue coming in from this game

BLOCK AND TACKLE?

Good eye BB. Yes indeed Mr. J. (don't confuse with MJ or the Doctor himself) did in fact touch the hoopring-rim.

It definitely was not what we like to call "nothing but net", though he got that too. Maybe he called, "I wouldn't touch that with Dennis Rodman's hand", which may have convinced the ref.

Seems to be a violation of the not so cearly worded Notorious Clause A.

A Player Shall Not:

I'm not exactly sure of what that bolded part means. Maybe we should send it on over to the What is Mind? thread or drive on up the The Rim of The World and contemplate it.

The paint company told newsnet5.com this week that they are taking down the banner at 101 Prospect Avenue to make room for a new one in time for the Republican National Convention.

looks like a slight of hand trick, or out of sight out of mind, maybe?

funny is wasn't EVEN brought up during the game? the way i read that exception claus gives the defender the ok to touch the rig(ring and rim combined), only AFTER he is ALEADY touching/controlling the ball!?

NOT that i would concede to a rematch, or anything;)

i'm trying to find that reel of a couple plays prior at the other end, when LeBlocr(i like that one:) ) got RAPED when going up for a layup/dubnk.. the replay clearly showed LeMoney's defender high 5'n all hand and no ball at all! which caused a change of possesion and left him standing there LeStund.

The rim rule is easy to understand if you think of what it trying to protect from and what to allow. If you are an offensive player you can grab the rim making a basket. If you are a defense player you cannot touch the rim if the ball is still in play. LeBron's block was legal: the ball had not touched the backboard and the ball was not on the rim.

And to think Roger spent so many years in California and still loves Ohio! Maybe we are all missing something? At best it was an entertaining game compared to the last two.

If you are a defense player you cannot touch the rim if the ball is still in play

I think it would be safe to say that I've spent more time on this blocked shot than anyone here.

It seems pretty safe also to say that the ball had not touched the backboard, but it is very very close. A different camera angle could show the refs and my judgment to be incorrect. Clearly the ball was not on the rim. Just as clearly, Mr. James hand was on the rim.

However, Roger, I'm not following your line on the ball being in play. The ball was never out of play. CAVs rebounded and took it back up court.

You said that a defender cannot touch the rim if it's still in play. It was in play and Mr. James touched the rim.

I'm not going to look it up right now, but it used to be illegal to "grab" the rim on an offensive move. The rule was changed and I believe it reads that a player can grab the rim to protect himself from injury.

Finally,

A Player Shall Not:

f. Trap the ball against the face of the backboard. (To be a trapped ball, three elements must exist simultaneously. The hand, the ball and the backboard must all occur at the same time. A batted ball against the backboard is not a trapped ball.)

Mr. James trapped the ball on the glass, he literally rolled it across the glass before releasing it.

The block was not legal.

All that be as it may be, the game and series turns on 1000's of events and the Cavaliers are to be congratulated on a fine series of performances.

LeBron is an excellent baller and appears to be a very good dad. Does his huge ego leave him open to some goodhearted teasing? You bet.

god knows that was a tremendous game/series/season. Truely more productive for the human spirit than any political goings on right now..

Just to be specific for specific's sake(and since the season is over and there's nuthin left to do, but talk).

IF; the defender(LeBonus), touches the ring or net before he touches the ball, FOUL! STOP play!

No, If's, And's, or Butts;)

The scientific question is; Did he touch the ball first??

Wouldn't want to take anything away from , The King tho. It was an AMAZING series, i really reveled over his second 41'r tho!

doods questioning the legality of the block, eh

well, that's rich. The NBA has not strictly policed any of its putative rules -- most notably the "carry" rule, which, if strictly policed, Curry would have violated dozens of times in any given game, or the travel rule, which is blatantly violated by everyone -- for years, if not decades

if you're dissecting a block this finely in Game 7 of the NBA Finals -- it simply will not be called, and that is the only morally defensible outcome

Z, two comments.

First the ball was still in play as you point out, but the shot was not. Once James smashed the ball against the glass the shot was over and the ball was rebounded by J.R. Smith, I think.

Second, James did not trap the ball simultaneously with his hand, the backboard and the ball. He touched the ball before it hit the glass. This seems like splitting hairs, but I think the intent of this rule is to clarify what happens when the block is exactly between the allowed block of a ball which has not touched the glass and goaltending if it has touched the glass before the hand. The rule basically establishes a tie breaker and says that in the knife edge space between allowed and not allowed, the rule says you cannot argue touching the ball and the backboard at the same time is not goaltending. Keeps folks like us in line, so to speak.

In any case, as far as I know no Warrior player or coach objected to the no-call. I trust the folks who know the rules better than we ever will to argue violations, especially when the the basket could have otherwise turned the game.

Unless, of course, this is an Internet argument, in which case the real world does not apply. NB: Those of us who live in Cleveland do not really believe that the Cavs actually beat the Warriors--who would believe that? It is just impossible. If they can fake the moon landing they can fake the Cavs coming back down three to one against the team with the best regular season record.

However, I am curious so I have asked my expert--basketball mavin and appalent law attorney--to comment on this arcania. Who knows, maybe the Warrior really won in the real world. Not that we care in Cleveland: we live in Believeland.

Given these seemly very specific rules, James block is all the more impressive. Did he really "choose" to block because he "knew" that the ball had not touched the glass as he was otherwise flying through the air? I have come to believe that James really can make those adjustments. In this bloc, he lifted his right hand to keep it from hitting the edge of the backboard frame which could have led to an injury.

Your 2 examples are right on. I've wondered why they are never called.

Goaltending does get called.

Hardly a moral issue. Just some cheap and pretty harmless entertainment, like the games themselves.

Roger:

I'll get back to ya. Since it's fun and cheap maybe I'll edit down a slomo of the "pin and roll ".

Which demos the simultaneity the rule calls out for.

From goaltending-basket-interference/

Since the 2012-13 season, referees have reviewed situations in which they are not reasonably certain whether a goaltending or basket interference violation was called correctly during the last two minutes of the fourth period and overtime.

Possible goaltending violations that were not called are not reviewable.

Goaltending is confirmed when a player (offense or defense) touches the ball on a shot:

After it reaches its apex (its highest point) and is on a downward flight toward the basket with a reasonable chance to go in;
After it hits the backboard and is headed toward the basket, whether going up or down, with a reasonable chance to go in;
When it is in contact with the backboard, i.e., a player may not “trap” the ball (a batted ball against the backboard is not a trapped ball);
Once it has touched the rim and is either using the rim as its base or has bounced off the rim and is in the imaginary cylinder above the rim. (Note, a ball that is rolling off the rim may be touched, even if it is still in contact with the rim because it has no chance to go in); and
Generally, touch or vibrate the rim, backboard or net in a way that affects a shot attempt
When conducting the review, referees also look to determine whether:

The shooter committed a boundary line violation prior to the goaltending or basket interference violation,
An 8-second backcourt violation occurred before the goaltending or basket interference violation, or
Any unsportsmanlike acts or unnecessary contact occurred.

Given this, the rule is that the ball has to be moving up and headed for the basket, unless it has touched the backboard, otherwise it is goaltending. So the call was that the ball was going up and had not touched the glass when James smacked it.

In this block he lifted his hand to keep to from hitting the edge of the backboard frame which could have led to an injury.

so are you looking at the left hand or the righthand? The lefthand yeah, it's trying not to get hurt! But you maybe amiss if your concern is for the righthand. i see LeBoard giving the backboard a quick slap after realizing he just smacked that ball into outter space, as celebration! Much how he like's to give the backboard an open palm slap after releasing on a flyby lay-up, preempting a "COUNT IT" before you even hear the swoooosh.

Today the New York Times summarized Game 7 with the following picture and text:

This series of pictures taken from a video show the sequence of James contact with the ball, the roll of the ball to the right, and James lifting his hand away from the edge of the backboard. This adjustment still strikes me as an incredibly fast reaction time. The picture above corresponds approximately to the first of these pictures.

James is holding the rim with his left hand just as he touches the ball and then lets go. The rule says:
Section I-A Player Shall Not:
a. Touch the ball or the basket ring when the ball is using the basket ring as its lower base.
b. Touch the ball when it is above the basket ring and within the imaginary cylinder.

Clearly the ball is not near or above the rim, so James left hand touching the rim is not a violation.

The New York Times pictures also show how long Iguodala's arms and makes it easier to see where his hands was as James smashes the ball into the glass.

Based on the press coverage this block is going into James' life-time highlights reel. As I mentioned upthread, I watched this on TV and could not see the actual block until I watched it in slow motion.

The NYT photo shows quite clearly leB's right hand, the ball and backboard all in contact simultaneously.

The ball was not "battted", because the next frames show LeB's right hand again rolling it across the backboard until he releases it and then slaps the glass. A battted ball would have traveled in the opposite direction from the object it was batted against.

Probably want to take note of the direction Ig's hand is oriented in and the distance from the ball.

So maybe the mighty Casey did strike out afterall.

Now it could be that since the little rectangles become infinitely small the ball never even actually touches the glass (at least in our lifetimes). It's all an illusion.

As to why Kerr or any of the team didn't register a complaint. The NYT best answers that. They were stunned.

It was a phenomenal athletic feat on LeB's pat to get to the backboard and there was no break in the action. Game on. "For a moment ... what they had just seen".

What is the San Diego take on Cleveland's accomplishment?

This is not to diminish the awesomeness that would be experiencing a championship here. I’m hoping against hope I get to see one in my lifetime. But let’s pump the brakes on saying San Diego has overtaken Cleveland as the most impotent pro sports town in America.
That label goes to Buffalo.

Jim Brown says LeBron James deserves his own statue in Cleveland

"[He's] a young man who has taken responsibility on every level - community, family, team, organization, city - and he's done it with grace. He's carried himself well. He has bitten the bullet many times, and it's paid off for him. His legacy is set, and I'm so happy for him."

z, last comment on the ball, glass, hand deal.

I searched for the picture that showed the ball position relative to the glass when James hit it, but found nothing. However, it occurs to me that the shot itself indicates that the ball was not on the glass. If Iguodala was shooting directly into the rim, then the ball was not on the glass. Based on the location of the ball on the glass after James hit it indicates that if the ball was on the glass it would not have been likely to have gone into the basket--it is too far to the right. Iguodala is too good a player to miss that shot by so much, but if he did, the rule says goaltending requires that the shot was otherwise good.

Interesting topic. More respect for the refs who are otherwise blind to the opponent's transgressions and just mean and evil to my team.

So here is my "aha" moment at the end of Game 7.

I am sitting on the edge of my seat.
The Cavs are up by 4 and there are 10 seconds left.
We are going to lose: we need a miracle.

Holy sh#t, I am a Cleveland sports fan.

YES Jaybro, you and we wuz all robbed and everyone lost except the owners. May I suggest that this old white male overreaching horrific "Winner take all" strategy needs to cease stat and all sporting games in the entire United States will go with the "Everybody gets a gold star" technique. With this, there are truly no losers, everyone is always a winner. Everyone should get a trophy in this version, including the long suffering fans. Until that blessed event occurs and society catches up with our needs, we all need to just quietly curl up in our own personal "safe space rooms", which are basically a special room to recuperate from this horrific theft of the game. The room should equipped with cookies, coloring books, bubbles, Play-Doh, calming music, pillows, blankets and a video of frolicking puppies, as well as students and staff members trained to deal with trauma. At all cost avoid allowing any rabid basketball fans into the room, even if they so love the warriors as we all do.

And may the odds be forever in your favor......
