Flying back to Seattle yesterday from the Bay Area, I got a good aerial look at several of the peaks from CA to WA. Dang! Talk about dry! Below are some crappy iPhone pics of Shasta, St. Helens, and Rainier. Lassen didn't appear to have a speck of snow on it, and I couldn't see Hood, Jefferson, or Adams--though I'm assuming it's the same story there.

Yep. We are going to have very serious problems with irrigation next season if we don't get a good snow pack. Last year was ridiculous; Snoqualmie pass ski areas didn't even open. Driving across the pass one was lucky to see a foot of snow when normally we'd have eight feet. None of my favorite snow routes got enough snow to make it worthwhile heading out.
Irrigation water was cut off for three weeks early in the season. We had the hottest June on record, with temps up to 109°. We haven't had rain for at least 5 months. The fire situation was dire this year and next year may be worse.

That is one spooky/cool picture of Mt. St. Helens. Almost looks like a pastel.
I finally took a weekend to climb in the Meadows, and got caught in Lee Vining on Sunday morning--had to take the long hike around back to S.C. (instead of climbing). Damn, the ONE day of snow up there. But I was happy to see a bit of snow, and am hoping it's not the last until next year.

Mooser, were we on the same flight? Mi iPhone pics suck so I won't burden you but it did
look scary dry down there. Not this morning though - a nice steady rain coming down.
Glad we got two nice days in!

That's the telescoping feature of an iPhone, for you. Kind of loses resolution, but it's otherwise a completely unaltered picture. What almost looks like a dusting of snow on top was just dirt. Crazy dry!

^^^ Haha!
I was actually in row 6, and headed all the way back to aft can--despite the fact that the plane was about 2/3 empty, and the first class can was about 5 steps away.

Holy Moly that picture of Rainier is amazing. Liberty ridge must be a non-stop bowling alley.
