In the sierra I often encounter a bush that I call Mountain Misery but I have heard that this is not it's name. This bush has long sharp thorns and is a light green color. It loves to overgrow access trails and is difficult to remove. It can be killed with Roundup but don't think land managers would appreciate it's use. If you take the trail from Red's Meadows to Bear Crag you will encounter a lot of it. Does anyone know the name of this bush? There are plant identifier apps available that I might be able to use. Does anyone know of a good one for identifying bushes, flowers and trees that reside in the mountains where climbers trod?

Sounds more like chaparral whitethorn or mountain whitethorn. Mountain misery is kinda sticky but it's dark green and doesn't have long thorns.

This plant I am describing may not be native and I said I don't think it is Mountain Misery. But thanks anyway.
