Going to Squamish this week with my wife and one of our grown daughters. Both want to climb some easy stuff and neither has climbed much. I have never been, have the guide, and am looking for easy topropes and single pitch up to ~5.8-9. Thanks for the help!

Try the Smoke Bluffs...have fun!

Edit: there are great easy slab climbs but they are multi- pitch.

Burgers & Fries would probably be a good first stop on your tour of the Smoke Bluffs.

Burgers and Fries at the Smoke Bluffs, both Left and Right, and many other possibilities at Smoke Bluffs.

Also Murrin Park. There is a lake with picnic tables. Partway around the lake a trail heads into the woods. You soon come to a signpost pointing to a small crag called The Commonwealth. A few minutes from the sign you get to to crag. It has maybe 10 routes all side-by-side that are 5.8 plus or minus. It enjoys shade most of the day and there is a handline across the top to facilitate setting top-ropes.

Thanks everybody! Had a great time climbing around Murrin Park, bouldering, hiking to the top of the Chief. Will check out Garibaldi Lake next time. Look forward to coming back for climbing; the rock is exquisite! Going to Vancouver Island now for two weeks...

Thanks, Jim, I'll check it out next time. It's raining here in Squamish and we're heading to Tofino on Vancouver Island. Wayno, looking forward to climbing with you. I'll be here again next summer.

Mark! Sorry I missed this. I would indeed love to join u and Wayno.

If you have some extra time on the island, and get bored of Tofino, check out Denman or Hornby island on the other side of the island, or head north and check out my hometown Campbell River and Quadra Island.

Mike, look forward to climbing with you when it lines up. We are in Ucluelet right now. Beautiful area. Took a boat to Hot Springs Cove yesterday. That was amazing; saw sea lions, seals, sea otters, gray whales, and multitudes of various birds on the way. Soaking under a hot waterfall in pools by the ocean was an incredible experience.

Now, we head for Campbell River and Port Hardy. What should we see and do in addition to what you've already suggested?

Jim, Went to that gallery. The art by Vickers is amazing. Did a lot of time hiking on the coast and hanging at the beaches. Best time out that way was going to Hot Springs Cove by boat! Here is some video..

Klahanie Crack is a beautiful single pitch 5.7 splitter. A must do. Near Shannon Falls.

Mark- Hot springs cove looks awesome. I'll have to get out there sometime!

Things to do on the north island... Hmm. When you go over to Quadra, check out Rebbeca Spit, a fantastic marine park.

Then go to the other side of the island, cape mudge, and check out the lighthouse and resort.

Cortez is really cool too. I would camp on Quadra and then go over, to Cortez the next day. You can do it in a day trip but it would be rushed..

Check out Elk Falls just outside CR. The new suspension bridge looks cool. Ripple Rock trail is a great hike, to a scenic overlook where they blew up a rock that many ships had sunk on over the years.

Painter's lodge is worth a visit.. Their sunday brunch was always off the hook.

Check out Sayward on your way north. Cool little town, great whale watching tours.

I'm not very familiar with Port Hardy, but there's lots to see i'm sure. Have fun up there and i highly suggest hitting up hornby on your way back..

Thanks to everyone for all the ideas!

Klahanie crack looks amazing. Missed that, but will have to do that next time.

Vancouver is was wonderful. Didn't surf in Tofino; it was flat except for the day we went to Hot Spring Cove. After Tofino, checked out Strathcona Park (the mountains are beautiful!), the port of Tahsis on the west side, and around Port Hardy on the north end of the island. We found we were mostly drawn to the wilder parts on the west side. Now we are on the Olympic Peninsula.

Biggest impressions from the trip - BC is beautiful, the rock of Squamish is as good as granite gets, and the west side of Vancouver Island is truly wild (mostly).

Next time, we want to check out Sooke, hike the West Coast Trail, surf in Tofino, and sea kayak to Hot Springs Cove. Anyone wanna go with us? It'll take a year or two for me to get to be a good enough sea kayaker, but, damn, that would be a great trip!
