It's been a tremendous 50 years of climbing with you - one of the few who could actually fall out of a chimney (1096) Ha. One of my earliest photos of Phil -A few years ago at Jon and Sako's -Phil at Icicle -

A huge happy birthday and many thanks to one of our best.

I met Phil in Leavenworth several years back and we hit it off fine. Since then he has been very gracious in helping me understand the Okanogan region, a place I hope to call home very soon. A few years and many trips later, I see why he and his family like it so much.

Phil, I'm glad to have made the connection. You are an inspiration. Blessings to you and your family.

I think we found a place to make an offer on. It's up in Eden Valley on Dry Gulch Road. Once again, the question is how is the water, or is there enough.?

Cheers, buddy.

When we were teenagers, we thought it would be a great adventure (be the first?) to swim across the Salton Sea. His mom dropped us off in the early AM on the northeast shore (A) and was to pick us up that afternoon in Desert Shores (B). We took a few inner tubes to hold supplies, water and to rest on.

The Coast Guard stopped us half way across (x) and ordered us to go back or be arrested. After a brief argument, we ended up swimming to (C) and walking across the scorching desert to the 10 Fwy (D) and hitch- hiking back to Palm Springs where we were rescued around midnight. I almost died with blisters over my arms, legs and face, and feet the size of footballs. Phil, however, seemed relatively unscathed as I recall.

Hey Phil,

Have the greatest Birthday party!!

It's been a long time since Camp 4 in 1970. We both weren't thinking of holding grand-kids on our knee back then, but they sure are fun, huh.

That's the same year that I saw Phil semi-regularly in Camp 4, the fall season, and it was always good talking and sharing like we all used to did back then and there.

I could never have followed his level of difficulty is why we never climbed, partly. It's great to see he hasn't let it get rusty!

He was one tough cookie, too.

Cheers on your birthday, Phil!

Happy Birthday to a genuine hardman and a very gracious host who let a bunch of strangers intrude on his home. Only guy I know who owns his own climbing area! Hope you are doing well....
