Sitting here for a reading break while getting my gear together for my next trip to Yosemite, I was thinking it might be nice to have a thread for the other halves of those of us in relationships. Often suffering, sometimes misunderstood and under appreciated, these gals deserve some recognition!

My wife likes to climb, but she's not into long multi-pitch or big wall. That's fine by me, as I know I am lucky just to have one that likes to climb at all. But the real "climbing" kicker for me started a couple months ago, when I came home from yet another frustrating day at my rapidly more dead-end job.

"You need to quit. Go climbing. NOW!"

Uh sorry what now?

The long and short of it was, she knows how frustrated I have been lately. The money was OK, but in all honesty the company I was working for was paying me about half what I should have been making. I'd been wanting to leave, but I didn't want to lose my part of our income.

So being the awesome wife she is, she told me we were doing OK right now savings wise, and to draw up a list of trips I wanted to take. She gave the big OK, so lately I have only been working part-time at an ambulance company and getting to just...go climbing.

We've been together for 6 years now, and she's changed so many things in my life, and I've become a much better person for it. She was the impetus that changed my dreams to actual obtainable goals, and I'm thankful every day that I met her.

So here's to my wonderful wife! Feel free to share about yours.

Totally awesome wife:

This last Wednesday when I got back from a longer-than-expected one day Cathedral Peak grinder instead of being upset about my being away from her and our 4 month old son she said next time I should just spend the night nearer there. 8)

Cambodia. And thanks, but I think the subject has more to do with the quality of the pics than the photographer.

Edit: Also, great idea for a thread.

Your wife is indeed kickass, E. Y'all are one of my favorite SL couples.

Seeing that wedding shot from Facelift reminds me of the trash-grabber tool salute haha, classic.

One recurring theme I've noticed on ST is that we all seem to have "hooked up" above our station. Maybe it's because we are all such reasonable, mellow, loving people.........

At a meet at the local crossfit box.
(She's not a crossfitter - they just use the gym.)

At a recent USPA meet. Check the medals.

She broke the CA and American US Powerlifting Assn records for deadlift, squat, and total (all three lifts combined) for Masters in her age group (55-59) and weight class (148.9 – 165). These records were set in 2012, so now she’s qualified for USPA Nationals and IPL Worlds.

Deadlift: 319.7
Squat: 226
Bench: 181.9
Total: 727.6

My safety plan? I can outrun her...

Very impressive Ksolem, but OUCH. Don't do that to your knees. I know, she hasn't hurt them, yet.

Many orthos recommend not breaking a 90 degree plane.

Not my girl friend, but she always had a thing for me (and Dick Dale).

Here's mine, carefully observing that 90 degree rule.

Z, I know a lot of PTs take that position. But here her form on the squat is perfect. With that much weight if you stop higher the load on the knees if much more severe. What matters here is that her toes are pointed well outside her knees.

In any lifting comp: Olympic, power lifting, etc., the judge will fail you on a squat which is not deep enough. I know it seems wrong, I thought so too at first. But she has a great coach, knows what she is doing, and has done these lifts for years without injury.

K

Just trying to be helpful, based on a few ortho doc conversations, reading, and my own experience.

I lifted for a number of years and got to a decent amount of weight for my size (315lb BP at 180lb body weight) and eventually my shoulders started to hurt. I dropped the amount of weight and eventually BP altogether.

I'm happy with my choice. I wish her continued success and injury free lifting.

EDIT: And of course, HMMV. I remember some of my friends with huge knots on the front of the knees from knee-paddling. I never got 'em and my friends didn't stop surfing.

I met Vanessa in an elevator at CNN Center Atlanta where I worked. I had gone through a messy divorce the previous year and was certain that my future was going to be a single man, George Cloney style. She was fresh out of UCLA and if you looked at both of us from a distance it would seem we had almost nothing in common. That was almost 16 years ago. We married after 4.

Been together for about 21 years now. Nonstop (weekend) adventures. We started climbing together...although now, all these years later she prefers to do 1-2 TRs and call it good, she still climbs.

She's supportive with my aspirations and has spent a few days/nights on the side of various third world country's mountains vomiting with a smile while waiting for me to come back down.

She's my girl...what else can I say:

She's in Colombia right now backpacking through the jungle because our daughter thought it was a good idea. Neither one of us thought it was a good idea, but she couldn't say no...to be continued..

Thanks for the additions, all!

Just got back from a week in Yosemite, and it was KNOTT the same without my gal being there. Especially as our one year anniversary hit while I was away...

So we are celebrating by heading to Havasupai Falls for a few days :)
