Hello all - long time reader and decided to join the forums today.

I'm planning a bachelor party for my best friend. The wedding is in December, so I'm trying to find some awesome climbing/hiking/camping somewhere in the US that isn't snowy/icy/wet. The southwest came to mind.

Someone at the gym recommended Sedona, which I'm currently looking into. We're looking for sport climbing (5.9 - 5.12), but nearby trad would be great too (less experience, so we have to move down a couple grades).

I'm really just looking for some general locations - perhaps specific parks or towns that I can start to research. We're from Florida and mostly climb the southeast and parts of CA. Not too familiar with the southwest yet!

Thanks!

The Eastside of the Sierra - Lone Pine, Alabama Hills - Bishop, ORG. It can be cold but usually dry. The colder it gets around here the better the rock is. Also there is more Bouldering than you can imagine. Tons of free camping.

Really, there can't be another location other than Red Rocks. Party all night in Vegas, climb all day. Rest when you are either dead or married.

Just did my bachelor party in the Utah desert east of Green River, but Moab would be a good more civilized base. I had a few non-climber friends come along but there was plenty of other great stuff to do and they learned how to rappel on a couple of easy canyoneering routes. There is sport climbing to be had or of course Indian Creek for some splitter trad. Lots of places with great free camping. Good mountain biking too.

Some drove from Boulder or Grand Junction CO but most of us flew to Salt Lake City and rented an SUV.

Top of Lost Arrow Spire.

I've done two bachelor parties up there, and one even included a woman.

Sounds like a great suggestion for what they need.

I wouldn't count on the Lost Arrow Spire. Raptor closure.

Outdoor bachalor parties are legit. I threw one for a buddy at Shuteye last August, but it'd probably be pretty white when you're looking at going.

I did mine at an Indian Cove Group site in JT. Close to town so kegs are no problema, and plenty of climbing/hiking in walking distance. A great lost weekend with only minimal damage to life and limb ;-)

We made one our best babies ever!

(The baby is a a fruit, ice, sugar and hard liquor concoction that you put in a giant glass jar and wrap in towels, and everyone takes turns keeping it moving until it is ready. Definitely must be shaken and not stirred)

This is a bad-ass list to start with. Many thanks to everyone.

Alabama Hills / Lone Pine looks promising.

Indian creek's weather appears to be too variable in the December time-frame. It looks to be mostly trad, and outside some of the dudes' ability levels.

I will keep Shuteye on my radar for another trip... Proximity to Yosemite is a plus too. Weather is too wet and unpredictable in December to risk it.

Matt Thomsen nailed it... Red Rock would be clutch. The only issue is that partying will definitely cut into climbing - particularly if Spearmint Rhino is involved (no longer a budget trip either).

Don't tip too many back, and getting the strippers over may be problematic as well.

A friend has a brother who married a stripper. Scott said it was the first bachelor he had been to where the entertainment was the maids of honour!
