I think it's a general trend that we don't value other people's point of view if it conflicts with our own. Along with that, the PC crowd is gaining the upper hand, so if we tell someone to f*#k off, and they whine about it, we get the reprimand. In any case, I keep swearing off the off-topics, and somehow allowing myself to be drawn back in. If you want to stick around (and I think the forum will last a while yet, in one form or another) you'd best limit yourself to climbing content and cute fluffy bunny pictures. Baby talk will soon be the preferred language.

My understanding is that the ST forum was always about anonymous avatars.
That's why I created the Philo avatar rather than just using my name.
You know a "when in Rome" kind of thing. Why the crusade Cosmic? There are no rules requiring Crankster or any other user to post their portrait particularly to a potentially hostile subset of users. What's the big deal this isn't a dating site after all.

I did that job for you just a month or so after neck fusion and while still essentially in the neck brace.
It was nice to get back to work and you did the attic crawl for wires that I just couldn't managed at the time.

Philo, I certainly expressed my disappointment when Dr. F. got the boot as well. We may be opposed politically, but I felt like he was a friend and an asset to this site, even before I met him.
RJ's explanations of the situation with Ron help me understand the issue generally for ST. They offer a specific product to climbers, namely providing route information. One of the aspects of the forum provides continuous updating for all routes in SuperTopo guides. They've been generous enough to add the forum generally, and I personally think that was a wise business decision, because it invites people here who will have SuperTopo products (and the advantages of same) constantly before them.
When posts cause too many participants discomfort, it affects ST business, and the decisions to ban any particular person reflects the ST determination that the banned person's posts have an overall deterimental effect on the business of ST. That's their right.
What bothers me, though, is that most complaints about posters aren't content-neutral. People tend to gripe hypocritally. If someone commits forum misbehavior with whom we disagree, we're all over it. If someone commits forum misbehavior with whom we agree, we accept the misbehavior as an individualizing personality quirk.
To me, that sort of attitude reflects a trend toward closed-mindedness that's engendered "content warnings," speech codes, and acceptance of a growing hostility toward open exchanges of ideas. That issue isn't ST's fault, problem, or responsibility. We, on the other hand, narrow our exposure to other views and, ultimately, diminish our knowledge when we ignore the need to tolerate views of those with whom we disagree.

A friend gave me this catcus. What is it's name please...I water it every week and it surprised me with beautiful orange flowers...
Do i need to fertilize it?...it seems to propagate pretty easy. Anything i should know about it?....

That's a Peanut Cactus, or more accurately a Echinopsis chamaecereus, they are somewhat tropical, so can stand a lot of water.Fertilize Yes!! a couple times a year in the spring and summer
Orange flowers are the standard species
There a bunch of hybrid Peanut Cactuses, they have different color flowers,
This one is called "Fire Chief"

I have been living with my brother in Arizona for the past 7 years but I still get most of my work in California so I am back and forth frequently. I jumped into climbing with both feet pretty late around 35 years old. I still try to climb a couple days a week.
my twenties was pretty dark and crazy if I had known I was living this long I would have taken better care of myself.
I have to get to one of those Gordon get togethers it would be great to catch up with you

Yep, I got 'em both.
This suggests that the missing ST PM's may be related to the email account/ISP, not ST's email system.
Prior to the change I made last night, my ST-related emails would go to a Yahoo email addy...sometimes I get 'em, sometimes I don't.
The change I made directed emails to another account (not Yahoo), and both of your emails came in normally (I replied to the second one).
Wouldn't surprise me if this was a Yahoo problem...I've had lots of similar annoyances with Yahoo over the years.
