Please note that we changed the email address for camping this year.

Also if you're interested in some new camping equipment you may want to check out and enter New Belgium Brewing's Facelift promotion. Information is posted below:

The final trip giveaway to the Yosemite Facelift will be the most special event of the New Belgium Brewing’s West Coast Slow Ride series. In honor of their new Session IPA release, Slow Ride, New Belgium put together an adventure giveaway called “West Coast Slow Ride” in the spirit of slowing down and making time for the important things in life. It couldn’t come at a better time. Plus, they’ve rounded up partners such as Stanley, ENO hammocks, Ticla, and Yakima Racks to give you the ultimate prize package for you and a friend. Celebrate Yosemite’s 125th Anniversary surrounded in the beauty of the Valley and the warmth of the Yosemite Climbing Association.

To enter, just tag your best adventure pics by the end of May with #WestCoastSlowRide and show them that you’re up for the challenge of the trash-picking, trail building, rock climbing Yosemite Facelift. Thank you Jeremy Collins for this beautiful artwork!

More info here: www.newbelgium.com/WestCoastSlowRide and follow @NewBelgium_SoCal

A few noob questions: How does the camping request work? Typically yosemite campsites are extraordinarily hard to get. Are these reservations also in short supply? When do we find out if our request was successful?

Thanks. Super excited to participate this year.

^ The YCA typically has arrangements for sites. You will likely have to share the site with a few other folks. No big deal; you will meet some nice people.

edit: Follow Chicken Skinner's directions in the OP to reserve a site. It will take a while to get a response as YCA needs some time to sort it out.

We need a campground host for Tuolumne Meadows Yosemite Facelift Free Camping. Its a coordinator's job for someone who appreciates the backcountry and can work directly with the rangers. Next poster gets the job, heh heh.

Getting closer. Can't wait to see everyone again. It is becoming something of a reunion for me.

Fattrad (Jeff Elfont) a supertopo expat, is putting together a meatfest at Yellow Pines September 26 at 6:30 for more on that check out and join Yosemite Facelift Meatfest on Facebook. It is a big potluck party. Please RSVP there. Or talk it up here. It is a tradition at facelift and a total blast.

Parking is tight there so carpool or park out at the picnic area and walk the short distance to the camp site. so that the folks camping there have room to park.

Sadly, it doesn't seem likely that I'll be able to make the Facelift this year. Sorry! It would have made ten years in a row, but health troubles make it inadvisable. The problems are under control and/or being treated, but it's going to take a little more time.

Hey, there neebee, that's something Ken ought to put up as a silent auction item. How many can say they have a painting signed by n--way? Many, thanks to your generosity. But how many will be able to say their art purchase was tax-deductible, should Ken follow that idea through. One generous guy.

I know it won't be me, but I would put in a silent bid for $XX.00. :0)

I am driving in from Moab, probably about the same distance as you. Ferretlegger is still in the Bay Area so I will be making the road trip to Yose alone. I find it peaceful and enjoyable. I am very cautious about paying attention to my body and not getting fatigued since I have no one to share driving with. Short stretch breaks make a world of difference.

Making new memories would be ideal but I'm not sure I have the mental strength for it just yet. Plus my finances would not be able to absorb a Jeep break down ...

I have some of my long-time best friends coming to vancouver next weekend so I think that may be a more healing experience for me. I also might have the opportunity to join some squamish friends for a smith rock adventure after next weekend.

Would've been awesome to get out on some rock with some of you ...

You all have fun out there ... And behave yourselves ;)

Much love,
Sandra

I've decided not to attend the entire week. My health just isn't going to allow me to do what I did just a short time ago.

I want to come to dinner on Saturday and spend the night at YP next to the fire, though. Then hook up with a ride later on Sunday back to Merced.

I have too much going on with my health issues and this will simplify things greatly, though it means less fun for me.

Enjoy the gig, folks. See you this weekend.

Ok then,

Mark your calendars for Sept. 27-28. Scientists say that's when a supermoon lunar eclipse will rule the sky for the first time in 30 years.

It hasn't happened in 33 years, and won't for another 18 years: Sunday evening, a total lunar eclipse will coincide with a "Supermoon."

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is between the full moon and the sun. The Earth's shadow covers the moon, which often has a red color, hence the "blood" moon nickname.

Although it's completely in the shadow of Earth, a bit of reddish sunlight still reaches the moon.

"That red light shining onto the moon is sunlight that has skimmed and bent through Earth's atmosphere: that is, from all the sunrises and sunsets that ring the world at any given moment," according to Alan MacRobert of Sky and Telescope magazine.

The total eclipse will start at 10:11 p.m. EDT (7:11 p.m. PDT) Sunday evening and will last one hour and 12 minutes. It will be visible across North and South America, Europe, Africa, and parts of West Asia and the eastern Pacific, NASA said.

Ok so here it goes

My tenth and the facelifts 12th
Wouldnt miss it for the world

it really is all about this man

Thanks for all you do Ken and for being a Friend

The first night Tuesday was the 10th Real Rock Film (support these people and go see the film when it hits your town, you wont be sorry)
it was crazy with the auditorium and the theatre both packed

The theatre even ran a second show for those who where not able to get in the earlier shows

I ran into this guy

Mike (Gator) the superintendent of the park introduces Ken

Here is where it gets really good and its time to thank all the sponsors

for me it was all about the New Belgium Fat Tire Ale

Everything they make is amazing

and the 1554 was really really good

its a dark beer that they discovered a recipe thats from 1554. Duh!
the recipe may be old but it had me partying like it was 1999 or is that 2019?
Aimie the New Belgium rep is way cool and has this great energy!
Thanks New Belgium!!!!!!

SWAG......dont even get me started

These are some of the people who get it done for every night time show

note the special red staff shirts
my guess is these will become very collectable

Here is Bill the coffee guy
he is there morning noon and night giving people what they want
legal speed (caffeine)

Thanks Bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Hood River Coffee

The park is really going high tech these days

#faceliftshouldbe2weeks

closing shot of the nightime slide shows and just a tip of the surfboard that was donated... more on that later

the second night was headlined by the gracious and HOT Lynn Hill

Her slide show was great!

here she is with Leo and Fattrad looking over a book that fatty brought for her to sign.....

she was in the plaza with Ken to sign the surfboard that would be auctioned off later... so I asked her to sign a facelift shirt that will be auctioned off here later for those of you who were not able to attend, probably separate thread.

impressive handwriting with a felt marker and soft organic cotton

Ok so this brings us to the middle of Facelift or hump day if you will

which brings me on a tangent from the routine

Excuse me ladys......but guys have you ever had this fantasy

Ok just kidding this is a family event

This is Hope and her friend from Taiwan, they live in the same town but had not met until they came to the Yosemite Facelift. Go Figure

The point being that this is an international affair and every year I meet someone from another country who has become friends. The sweet Lolli Pop comes to mind from years past and is greatly missed.

Speaking of international flair

Timmy at the podium announcing his candidacy for Superintendent of Yosemite National Park

Timmy has been a huge supporter of the Facelift for years and has this unmatched hyper energy that really gets the crowds going

He is FUNNY!
but what most of you may not know is that behind the sceenes he is all
bidness. He queries and takes notes like he is writing a fukcing wikipedia
page. Then he turns it into comedy. Quite amazing and not easy to do!

Thanks Timmy!!!!!!

So Timmy is at the podium presenting at the Volunteers of the Year Awards..

here is my friend Matthew (next to the Super) of the volunteer NPS rescue team
My guess is that he will become the new Werner

so Timmy is there to present the award for the Facelift Volunteer of the Year Award better known as the "Golden Grabby Award" as the prize is a gold trash picker upper stick!

And the winner is...................Leo Burke

I sure hope I have his energy when I am 82

Congrats Leo , its a pleasure working and hanging out with you at Facelift

OK so this thing can not go without mentioning

for several years Jeffs son Tyler has donated his artwork to be auctioned off at the Facelift

handboards and surfboards
This years was beautiful, made from repurposed wood from a late 1800's water tower in Santa Cruz, it was signed by Ken Yager and all the headliners

Thursday night the headliner was Tommy Caldwell

what cant be said about this guy

He is in his prime

Just recently freed the Dawn Wall, has a lovely wife and child and is getting all the attention he deserves for all the hard work

I have seen his show several times over the years and this was by far his best!

Go Tommy!!!!

no photos of Tommy as I only saw him in the dark theatre
but here is the trailer from Valley Uprising

The Merced School of Art collected a bunch of junk and made statues around the village

I caught Timmy reading poetry to Poseidon and if I'm not mistaken...
he's reaching for his JUNK (bottle with red tip)

OK lets back up a moment
there is an awful lot of work that goes on

First there is one tent

then there are 2

the booth needs to be set up everyday and broken down (not the tents)

the auditorium has to be cleaned set up and broken down then cleaned again
everyday

to be continued.....

This was my 4th year at Facelift and it seemed like the most fun yet for me. The highlights were really wonderful conversations with a bunch of very interesting people. There were lovely people sharing our campsite in Upper Pines and a large group next door from Berkeley REI were also very fun to hang out with. Riding my bicycle from Upper Pines to the Visitor Center and then down around the El Cap Meadow loop was great fun and worked my legs. In the trash cleaning department, I particularly enjoyed cleaning 5 lbs of mostly water bottles out of the steep loose gully on the right side of Vernal Falls below the Mist Trail. Challanging and satisfying, but next year I will bring a rope for a hand line. Even got some climbing in: Tenaya Peak on Saturday afternoon and After Seven on Monday. Very fun.

All of my photos of people with their trash bags and grabbers can be seen on facebook at #yosemitefacelift and #yosemiteclimbersassociation. All of my Meatfest photos can be seen on the Facebook: Yosemite Facelift Meatfest page.

Here are a few photos that I want to share here as well.

Thanks to Ken. He's the Man! Thanks to all who supported, participated, and spread the love for the Worlds Greatest Ditch, Yosemite Valley.
I had a great time and saw many old friends, made many new friends, and drank some beer! Cheers, until next year.....

I had a Blast at FL 2015. My sorrow.....I had to go back to work (but in the best place in the world) and missed the Joyous Frolicking Sat and Sun. Dang, no dancing for lynnie or musica. Maybe next year.

you must be in a bad mood dude. 360 something days a year there aren't any banners yet Yosemite still gets 4 million visitors a year. Something must be drawing them..must be the deli pizza.

Don't think so BIOTCH. The mountain is there. It delineates Everything.
And, that's why we're there. :) Of course cheers and joy, lynnie.

Try looking beyond your own vision of things sometime.

You might find some sense of community beyond "Locals Only".

What a downer, and just a foolish thing to post in the context of this thread.

There are a lot of people giving up their personal time to bridge the gap in an already-disconnected community.

Highlights:

Timid Top Rope is a strange fellow - VERY strange
Anastasia makes me feel quiet and reflective, only person on Earth so far so I keep her close
Crowley is basically exactly the same in person and his son mike is cool as phuck
Joey F is a super handsome dude, felt weird standing near him
Great conversations with TYeary and Prezwoods
Getting some kind of virus/STD in that cramped peice of sh#t standing room only hallway and shivering sweat for 3 days portering loads in mammoth
Hooking up with nobody despite meeting several desperate young women/men, I think you have to take them up El Cap first????
Realizing that the majority of DNC employess have mild autism

Ummm....

left early so no meatfest...

yeah. People were super cool. worth going again.

Seems typical of a negative Byotch post.
Great thread to sh#t on.

Love that Lynn Hill stretching pic.
Dare I suggest the raffle was rigged as a nod or even apology to Mr. Jensen? Pretty easy to do.
Looked like a great time.

Good post, DMT, and thanks for that early morning chuckle.

Paul's pic is funny as heck and I totally blitzed by it earlier--nice pics all.

Like Paul, this was my fourth Facelift, but the first I've only attended for a day. It's turned into a central life event for me, like a lot of you, the dedicated vols and trash-pickers and team project workers whose deeds are often unsung but enormously appreciated.

Here's a giant hug/silent shout-out for all you folks who know the satisfaction of having done something like this for NO recompense--free camping, all the rest.

Volunteerism, at its best, is also leadership. Chickenskinner wears his badge as Facelift marshal well. (I'm so looking forward to next year's event, Ken.)

Richard made sure to keep his rope as far away from the porta-potties as possible. You never know where some errant feces might land.

Thanks for the MeatFest and the patch of dirt we slept on.
And thanks to the photographer who made me look super muscular in this pic where we are stuffing our faces full of yummy food.

So last year the government kicked everyone
Out of the park including the Canadians
Many of them ended up continuing the facelift party on the Eastside
Well besides the well represented Pete and Anita at facelift this year
The others were a no show
Yes Anders thats you
And Yes Big Mike that's you
And Sandra also
And my favorite of all Canadians
RyanD
You all were missed

But
The facelift party still continues on the Eastside
As my new friend Hope is here
Tonight it was sushi at Yamatamis.

And then off to the horses

It sure is nice meeting people at facelift and making new friends

Thank you facelift!

Great time again!
Thanks for all the great pictures posted above.
Had a blast, it was pretty cool to get Tommy Caldwell's signature on the Iron Horse Summit Cuvee, I didn't have that planned at all, I think they raised well over $500 for the YCA.
Wonderful to see some old friends again, and make some new ones too. Put a few faces to ST names, nice.
Had fun at a late night dunk in the Merced Creek w/Lynn, it was so warm we just stood in the water looking at moonlit cliffs.
Yeah, fat chance buddy.
I heard that from someone riding their bike past me while I was working this little problem at Housekeeping Boulder:
It was Nita, Ha!

Later that night, after Meatfest,
Timid Toprope and the Aiders at Yeller Pines.

v not that hard but not that easy either

My kind of rating system. A good friend decades ago proposed this: "There are only three ratings. Hard. Really hard. And I can't do it. There are no easy climbs."

It's been a kind of touchstone for me. lol

The rope is sweeeet! I may frame it. lol

I'm not really into the sh|tting jokes because, seriously, I would never want to offend in the slightest a man I have come to truly love and respect. The thought of him feeling the brunt of such references honestly causes me pain. Closure is full and complete, cosmic Karma has been paid in full, and it's all good!

Thanks to all that played a part in making that reality.

There are more pictures and commentary here:

http://yosemitecloseup.com/yosemite-close-up-tours-attends-yosemite-facelift/

On Wed., Sept. 23rd I teamed up with Ed Hartouni to clean up all of the turnouts on the Big Oak Flat Road between Foresta Rd and the Valley. We picked up over 40 lbs of rubbish at these popular turnouts which offer visitors coming in on Hwy 120 their first views of Yosemite Valley.

At the raffle that evening, Ken Yager, President of YCA and the originator of Yosemite Facelift, presided over the evening raffle.

On Friday, Lisa joined me for a cleanup effort along the south side of the river between Bridalveil Straight-Away and Bridalveil Meadow.

On Saturday, Ed and his daughter, Stephanie, joined Lisa and me for a cleanup along the loop trails that include Taft Point, Sentinel Dome, and down the Glacier Point Road as far as Washburn Point where we sometimes stop on our tours.

Lisa and me at Taft Point.

That night at the raffle, Timmy was his usual funny and clever self!

All in all, it was a wonderful time, renewing old friendships and helping Yosemite look its very best!
