Getting close to splitter cracks, bold top ropes, desert sunsets and alcohol fueled brazen lies told around a crackling campfire. Let the games begin!

I have secured a large, private campsite replete with cottonwood trees and a resident badger.
It's in the Cottonwoods Camping area within walking distance of Way Rambo and Sabbatical Crags and closer to Super Crack/Battle of the Bulge areas than Creek Pasture.

Directions: Turn West on 211 off of 191, forty miles South of Moab. Go 20.5 miles to the Beef Basin turnoff. You will pass the Super Crack parking area 3.8 miles before the turn.
Proceed for 4.9 miles on the Beef Basin road and then make a sharp left turn on to road 1041. After a quarter of a mile you will cross Cottonwood Creek. Go 100 more feet and turn right into the campsite.

The campsite has ample parking and tent sites and a great central cooking area and fire ring. Cottonwoods abound and the stream is nearby, it is also very private, no other camping area is visible, and very scenic.

Do not bring firewood (I have plenty) but do bring water. You may want to bring wag bags.

The campsite will be available from Thursday 4/30 thru Monday night 5/4. On Saturday night renowned outdoor chef Darrin Reay will be doing his famous pit turkey....better even than mom's! You will need to provide your own side dishes. You will need to cook your other meals.

On Saturday I will be doing a crack climbing clinic for anyone who is interested.

I'm looking forward to a great time. For those new to the Creek.....be prepared to be impressed!

Edit....Post up when you see this so that I know that everyone is informed.

I'll be staying at the Blue Mountain Horsehead Inn in Monticello, arriving Thursday PM.

What time should I show up at the campsite Friday AM so as not to miss the group heading out for the day?

I'll be there midday Thursday. Coming by myself, so I'll be looking for climbing partners.

There are two creek crossings to contend with in getting to the campsite. Most vehicles should be able to negotiate them, but beware if you have a particularly low-lying vehicle.

Me and mine headin' down that way too. We'll also be staying in Monticello.

How late with the campfire be on Friday night? We'll be driving down from SLC and could arrive post 9pm.

Not sure our gameplan...hiking, climbing, canyons...all options. Haven't been to the crick in awhile.

Do you know how to tell its springtime in Indian Creek? All the license plates turn green...

Most vehicles should be able to negotiate them, but beware if you have a particularly low-lying vehicle.

At the 2nd crossing there is a little pullout that a car can park and someone can shuttle them across or just wade across if it seems sketchy. Basically the campground is right past this crossing. This past weekend there was quite a bit of rain and even most 2 wheel vehicles were able to cross.

Brian, IC may physically be in Utah but culturally it's pure Rado. Ha ha....thought you might like that sentiment.
We will be at the campfire at 9:00 PM debating that issue.

Hmmm....a similar corollary can be applied to the COR.

Susan...as of yesterday the crossing was not an issue.

Just so you know what is headed your way; a guy parked his mini-cooper at the bottom end of the Walmart lot and went in only to hear an intense rainstorm hitting the skylights, a real frog strangler.

He goes out 15 minutes later to find his car had floated about a hundred feet before sinking.

FINAL BETA!
Yeah what was all that consternation about the weather. It's the first weekend in May and the forecast is great!!!
I've been in camp for a few days and I'm now in Moab doing final shopping.

You can show up anytime...I'm leaving next Tuesday but the campsite will be available for people to stay later.

Don't bring firewood....I have mucho.

Bring water...I have extra if you run out.

Free turkey dinner Saturday night....along with dressing and mashed potatoes. Bring your own salad and somebody be nice and buy a pumpkin pie.

Stream crossing is no problem for passenger cars with low clearence.

Bring tape.

It's gonna be fun!!!!

Thanks to Jim, Patty, Moose, and myself got to hang out in Jim's van and shoot the sh#t waiting for it to stop raining. To make sure we all got to stretch our leggs now and again during the drier part of the day, I got our van stuck twice just for fun. Thanks Andrzej for getting out both times and helping me get it parked in our first campsite! Next day, Ferretlegger helped by towing us across the creek so we could officially part of the group. Extra creek road maintence by Eeyonkee who spent a sizeable effort adding granite rocks to the deep ruts in the creek crossing making it much more manageable for us in 2 wheel drive vehicles.

Jim, thanks again for showing Patty and myself around. We had a great time as usual. I think next time, we will stay for 5 days and give ourselves a rest day in there somewhere.

I will not be tearing it up, Cris will. He focused on getting strong this summer, while I focused on doing a ton of hiking. I am weaker than I was in the Spring now. :( But here is my chance to get stronger and start to prepare for 2016! :) Glad I have a rope gun :)

I see you did Anunaki! That was a climb we got on the first day last time. So good! Too bad it is not longer...even though if it was longer I would likely have whipped! :)

No V, we did not get on Anunaki :( , we just happened to be there talking to those guys (and it was one of my better shots I thought). Patty and I did nothing harder than 5.10 . I had a great time but am so-so about my performance. Patty on the other hand really improved. For some reason I have Slice and Dice stuck in my head and really would like to build up for that and give it a try next time. I do better with goals in my head, so I'm already looking forward to next time. I already just generally love this area.

Good luck out there Vitaliy

Chris

edit; sh#t, I just looked the thing up and slice and dice is 5.12. Well, it's still on my list....

Looks like a great time. Wish I could have joined you but at least I did manage to get 7 days of climbing in over the last 11 days in other places. Red Rocks was gorgeous this week.

Just missed this group by a day or so. Greg gave me a tour for my first visit. Hope to make the next one; amazing place!
