Cory Gardner of CO, also an R, also voted against it. He's a nutjob 99% of the time so this was a surprising and welcome vote.

How does giving the land to states help the federal budget?
I'm going straight from here to sign that petion against it and also contact my reps to give them my viewpoint.
Edit,
Done, and done.

Pretty disgusting!
Signed the petition and I'm going to contact my senators and congressional representatives to voice concerns over this or any other similar moves these scumbags might propose.
Thankfully my two senators voted against it.
Jim, tis true that both Murray and Cantwell are democrats. However, with the apathetic and unenlightened nature of a good deal the American people doesn't hurt to remind them that some of us are still passionate about keeping public land public.

Waste of money, will never happen and completely juvenile. At least that is how I see it.
* How would states pay for taking over and managing the lands? Do they have the $$?
* Is this an attempt to get rid of NEPA?
* Would the states still attempt to provide/protect ecosystem services?

Thanks all. Glad to see that most all of you share my interest in this sorry bit of politicking.
I strongly suspect Idaho's legislature is more right-wing and more wacky than the Republicans in the U.S. Senate. (Although, they don't make nearly as much money from lobbyists for corporate interests.)
However, the Idaho legislature gave up on passing a bill to seize Federal lands after Idaho's Republican Attorney General said it would be illegal under existing state & federal laws.
The Idaho Legislature Public Lands Interim Committee Releases Report!
The Good News
The report indicates that Idaho does not have a constitutional or legal argument that would advance the cause in court. In other words, it is unconstitutional to demand the United States cede the land to the state.
Additionally, economic research from the University of Idaho show that under moderate economic conditions, Idaho is likely to lose 64 million dollars a year if it was to take management control of our public lands.
The Bad News is the committee wants to use Idaho tax dollars to create another committee to keep trying to grab those Federal Lands.
“Simultaneously, the Legislature should consider authorizing and funding……a full-time, staffed position and administrative assistant and establishment of a permanent commission or working group to implement recommendations adopted by the Legislature and signed into law……Transfer of federal jurisdiction should be seen as and supported as a long-term effort, worthy of annual appropriations starting at $250,000.”
I don't see the right-wing giving up on this renewed un-holy crusade to privatize our wonderful public lands. If we get both a Republican president & congress, you can kiss your free or inexpensive outdoor adventures goodbye.

99% of Americans have no clue as to what is out there on public lands because they never get off their fat asses to check it out.
Thanks! Feels good for me to be one of the elite 1%ers, I'm just having trouble figuring out why 50 of the other 51 senators didn't vote for it.
you can kiss your free or inexpensive outdoor adventures goodbye.
Who can? You mean we elite 1%ers can? Oh yea now I'm against it. I should get a tax break for that shouldn't i?

But really, does anybody want some large portion of 99% of 320 million folks with plump butts roaming around out it the wilderness?
It ain't as much fun as watchin' the river flow, but you can watch grow here.

Thank god that, even though I have his email address, I have never spammed nor caused to be spammed DMT.
Signing petitions is most times a very ineffectual means of accomplishing anything, unless of course they are to get a measure onto the ballot in California.
There are least as many cattle grazers as climbers in Amerika, so how about opening up Tuolumne meadows to grazing cattle?
