Totally shocking. Facebook is abuzz, but it's too early for details. I'll let someone who knows him personally with accurate info post.

Sincerest heartfelt condolences. Always very sad to loose a member of the tribe :(

Hey all,

There is a press release in the works and the investigation is ongoing. Lets keep speculation to a minimum. There will be a full release of the details involving the accident after the investigation is complete.

For the time being, I will say that the accident did not involve a traxion type device, and did not occur while top rope soloing.

Condolences to those who knew Scott.

I was on the rim of the lower gorge yesterday when Bishop climbers who were Scott's friends returned after finding him. It was Scott Sederstrom. There were no details then, even from the climber who found his body. Nothing is confirmed about a miniTrax or even a rope being involved. The climber who found him was more immediately concerned with calling off the search than in analyzing what happened. The SAR people went down to take photos and bring him out. As you can imagine, we were involved up top with the emotions of Scott's friends and fiance.

May he rest in peace.

I worked with him at MH in 2000. He lived in a yurt and climbed more than he worked. He was such an inspirational dude. I always wanted to live like him. He lived life to the fullest. RIP bro.

Praying this isn't Sederstrom.

NOoooooooooooooooo! This is crushing. I can't think of a finer soul.

Scott was from Montana but the first time I met him was in the Sierra. This really hurts.

Scott Sederstrom is a Flathead Valley native. I met and climbed with Scott in the early 90's at Stone Hill. Scott was talented, humble and full of positive energy. When I first saw him climb, he was leading a classic hand crack called Night Flyer, cruising the crux so casually it was hard to tell where the difficulties lay.

He then went on to do the first onsight ascent of a thin face and finger crack called Skin To Win, a 5.11b project one of his best friends had cleaned and bolted but not yet led cleanly.

We finished the day at the Aquaclimb, an awesome deep water solo that requires a 45' 5.10 traverse over open water and then a horizontal roof crack that hung 15' above the lake. None of us pulled the lip on this hard 5.12, but Scott made it farther than any of us, flaming out at the lip and falling into the water below.

Smiles, sun and lots of Positive Energy! That is how I remember Scott.

Family, loved ones and friends will be feeling the grief tonight as the numbness of loss begins to wear off. My prayers of comfort and peace go to all who loved Scott. Sorrow and pain are sometimes life breakers. Be there for each other and let the flow of time heal .......a day at a time, a step at a time, with peace, patience and perseverance. Know that many here at the ST campfire hold you in their hearts, positive thoughts and prayers.

http://www.rockandice.com/lates-news/climber-falls-to-death-apparent-bolt-failure

Scott Sederstrom, 44, fell to his death on Friday, March 13 when a bolt failed on Life in Electric Larvae Land (5.10b) at Silent Pillar Wall, Owen’s River Gorge, outside of Bishop, California.
When Sederstrom did not return that evening, his fiancé drove to the lower gorge parking lot. She found his van and dog there. Inyo Country Search and Rescue began an organized search in the morning.

About an hour into the search, a family friend of Sedestrom’s found his body in the gorge. Sederstrom was on the ground, with an eight-foot loop of slack between the tie-in point on his harness and GriGri attached to his belay loop. A quickdraw was on the rope within the loop, and a bolt hanger, missing its bolt, was on the other end of the draw.

Sederstrom had a stick-clip attached to his harness. The evidence suggests that he was going bolt to bolt—unclipping the one below as he went—when the third bolt of the climb failed.

Sederstrom fell 25 to 30 feet to the ground, suffering trauma to his head. He was not wearing a helmet.

Condolences to friends and family. Another loss to the tribe.

Reading the above I immediatly went into analysis mode. Let's not do it on this thread.

Or maybe start a proper RIP thread for Scott.

That all sounds bizarre for sure; I have no interest in unraveling any of it.

I will only say that Scott was as experienced as you can get. Only by being older could a person possibly gain more experience than he had and that would be rare.

Waiting for someone who knew him better to start a memorial thread, when the time may be right for it.

Respect and sadness.

Two highly experienced climbers are investigating the broken bolt and replacing bolt(s) down there today. When we hear from them, I think we should start a new thread with their results, to keep this thread about Scott.

People are showing admirable restraint with speculation. When we hear back about the broken bolt, we'll start a new thread about the accident.

Thanks Greg. As someone who has rapped off single bolts (or worse) multiple times and lived to tell the tale(s), I look forward to hearing the full version. Please post a link to this thread when if goes up if you would please.

To Scott's loved ones, my deepest condolences to you all. Scott sounded like a wonderful person. The kind the world needs more of, sorry to see the world lose another good one.

Scott was a class act. Smart, funny and one of the humble and kind ones. Climbed some amazing lines both sandstone and granite. Never forget climbing Rights of Passage with him.

Thank you Scott for the memories and moments.
