Just the other night I saw him ,pre-Trek, in a cheesy bad guy character role on the ancient series Sea Hunt and he couldn't have been older than 28 ,with not an ounce of excess fat on him.
A few years ago I read his book I Am Spock which was a sort of sequel to I Am Not Spock and in the book he came to fully embrace the mixed bag that was Spock and the Star Trek legacy, even including a lot of great behind-the-scenes stories.

An interesting man, highly intelligent, an accomplished photographer, director, writer, and actor.Unforgettable.
Condolences to his family,friends,and colleagues.

A really great actor and director. Of course he is Spock first in my mind, but I've seen him in other things where he was very good too.

Thanks for your work sir. I have been and always shall be your fan.

Life is like a garden. There can be perfect moments but they can not be preserved except in memory.

Leonard Nimoy

I spent a couple of days with him in the studio (a long time ago.) It was interesting to see Mr. Spock smile. Fascinating.

Many of the people I met back then were aloof, with powerful egos. I got used to being treated like a lower class citizen. Mr. Nimoy was humble, casual and friendly, even with us studio geeks. He was genuinely interested in us and what we were doing. At the same time he had a powerful personality and charisma.

It's too bad it takes this bad news to refresh those fine memories.

Seemed like Spock would always be there. Nimoy created a lasting cultural icon, not always recognized by writers in the original TV series but coming to dominate the movies from Star Trek II onwards, and just as much in the reboots despite the new younger Kirk.

By all accounts a good man.

Did you like 3 men and a baby Dean? He was the director for that.

I thought he did a great job in an unusually low key role in "A Woman called Golda" with Ingrid Bergman. I am sure you would like it.

The original Star Trek series had a few good episodes but I'm not a huge fan anymore. Some of the movies were really good and all were watchable. One of my favorites was also directed by Nimoy, #4

Dean: because Nimoy and ST have been such a phenomena.....and somehow I missed it.

So why not just post that^^^ to begin with? This is a person many of us loved and respected. You may not have intended it to... but Randisi has a bit of a point... your first post came across as totally pointless and bit disrespectful. Edit to add: you don't need to respond. I don't want this memorial thread to degrade into a bunch of senseless bickering.

Agree. Nimoy was indeed a phenomenon. He had a great run. There will never be another like him.

The Spock hand sign, Live Long and Prosper, has a GREAT genesis, something that Nimoy came up with himself:

In his autobiography I Am Not Spock, Nimoy wrote that he based it on the Priestly Blessing performed by Jewish Kohanim with both hands, thumb to thumb in this same position, representing the Hebrew letter Shin (ש), which has three upward strokes similar to the position of the thumb and fingers in the salute. The letter Shin here stands for El Shaddai, meaning "Almighty (God)", as well as for Shekinah and Shalom. Nimoy wrote that when he was a child, his grandfather took him to an Orthodox synagogue, where he saw the blessing performed and was impressed by it.

As a child, listening to Doctor Demento on an LA radio station, I heard Nimoy's off-chart song, The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins, right after I'd read The Hobbit.

It was wonderful.

First, I saw him on TV as Spock, and then he brought Bilbo to life in song.

I was nearly complete as a person, right then and there.

On Friday at lunch a colleague told me of Leonard Nimoy's passing. I didn't know yet. Tears came to my eyes. Lovely man.

You know outside of Star Trek, one of the best movies I have ever seen him in is "A Woman Called Golda (Golda Meir)." He played Golda's husband. Man that movie brings tears to my eyes. As incredibly important as Golda was/is to Israel, she left her husband in a world of hurt. I could sympathize with her husband for sure, and Nimoy played it so well. A very touching movie about a very true story.

(And President Richard Nixon actually did something noble, he helped save Israel, after Golda asked him to help. Nixon's mother told him when he ever has the chance -- help the Jews, help Israel. Nixon's mother was a believer and she knew the supernatural G-d given blessings that would result from helping G-d's people. Nixon listened to his mother, thankfully.)

hey there, say, ksolem... say, wow, as to this quote of yours:

this was a very sweet share...
my best friend in high school love this show and my brothers used to watch it too, but i watch old westerns, mostly...

however, i always caught a few moments from the star trek, and thought he seemed very interesting, as to the way he did the character...

i was very happy to see now, later in life, that so many folks said he was a really nice man...

it is so good to be remembered, that way, no matter what our skills...

to be seen as a good man...
and loved and respected by friends, ... the best treasure of all...

thanks for sharing, and thank you for your work and books,
to leonard nimoy ... :)

condolences to his family and friends, and may they be strong,

L, do you remember once, when a bunch of us were wandering around in Josh, we saw a jetliner that was weirdly illuminated by the sun? It glowed, but from the bottom, and the tips of the wings were weirdly dark, seeming to arc downward...Somebody, maybe Fluoride, said "look at that, what is it?"
I stared at it and said what it made me, think of,

"It's a Romulan bird of Prey!" -I swear, that's what it looked like!-
And you said, " It Is a Romulan bird of Prey!"

Good times with good friends brought up in the popular culture of our day!

Mr. Nimoy was a cool cat. What he left behind in the character of 'Spock' will leave a far greater impression on history, and I'm very fuking sure he'd be proud of that.

He was a talented director too, Nimoy. He was a very compassionate man, unlike his seemingly cold, logical alter-ego of Spock.

Rest in peace, Nimoy, enjoy the Final Frontier.

He is for me the real Spock and... I understand what he was trying to say in his first book. Spock was just an aspect of him, a character he help create. He was so much more. I wish I had met him and got a glimpse of all that which is rarely seen.

He will forever be one of my most favorite characters, always.

...and at least he really did live long and prospered.
