You guys hunker down.... 54 hours of record storming would be great.

It would be cool to ski on 7/4/15.

I had to replace my roof after that Nov 2005 event when winds were in the 90-100 range for over 8 hours in Crowley with gusts up to 128. Remember that one?

If my minds timeline is correct, that was the one when I had to spend the night at High Camp at Squaw, alone. I was working maintenance and someone had to be up there to keep an eye on things. The anemometer at the tram station was reading 100 mph on average for a while with gusts much higher than that.

I'll never forget the sound of the wind ripping through the steel I-beams that frame the roof for the ice rink (which obviously had no canvas on it at the time) in the middle of the night. Like a freaking demon.

Hope you guys get some precip, wish I could send some of ours from NH.

Very warm here in eastern Plumas County, 48 degrees F at 6:00 am at 5000' elevation. High winds, feels like 40 mph, not a drop of precip. yet. Kids ski races scheduled tomorrow at Alpine Meadows are cancelled. Rumor that they'll close during or after this storm.

Hey Crag, what do you mean by "8 feet winds"? I haven't heard wind described that way. Typo?

Will it ever snow again?

The Chief...I think i know where your'e talking about...Near a creek...? I remember driving around Crowley during one of those wind events watching comp shingles peeling off roofs...Waiting for the blasts of wind to crash into my former house was instense...Neighbors front window blew out.. I guess your'e out of the wind down there because you're up on the fan..? rj

Maybe they waved off because they saw RJ?

If United uses Bombardier RJ's then, yes, they do not like crosswinds but
that is because the wing is so low to the ground. My bro-in-law flies one
and he hates it when there's a crosswind. The airplane has some other
idiotsyncranies but this is the wrong thread for that.

The Chief...Blue room exploding..? That must have been a sight..Greg's a good guy..! That wind comes barreling out of McGee Canyon at mach 2..I had just finished installing pricey windows on my little place and the next morning they were sand-blasted..I use to live behind Stimbo and East Side underground...It's nerve wracking watching planes trying to land at Yosemite International...

DMT, Alaska has a stellar safety record* and their maintenance is not worse
than others'. As to Continental I'll just say that my bro-in-law was flying
for Delta when they bought some planes from Continental. When the Delta
mechanics started going through them they were shocked.

*For a long time they were the only airline whose whole fleet was Cat IIIc capable.
They have to be to fly SE Alaska.

Power is out in Truckee for the past 30 mins (most/all of town, must be a big outage), lots of downed trees and winds are gusting 50-60mph at the airport, probably over 100 at the ridgetops. Exciting... just sprinkles so far, the real rain hasn't started.
