Sorry If this is a repost but this painful interview is too good not to share.

Here's 'Alex Honnlove' describing to us 'How to get a baby up a mountain', filmed by a cameraman who can't decide where to stand.

I hadn't seen it so thanks for the link.

I found it entertaining and not at all painful to watch. Alex is so very well spoken that I always find it interesting to hear his thoughts and I actually didn't think the interviewer did too bad with her questions.

But the whole baby in the backpack ascending the ropes on the east ledges thing sounds like another Michael Jackson dangling the baby over the balcony media sh#t storm waiting to happen. Don't do it Alex!

IN FAIRNESS to the lady reporter,
she handled the interviews with Kevin Jorgeson's dad and Mrs. Caldwell, the baby's mommy, just as well.

Heck, she has NO CLUE about Alex's track record, so there's no fakery, no jiving. It is just a matter of ignorance, not "the stupids."

I've seen it happen where I've introduced Alex to another guy who I thought ought to have at least recognized his name. "Alex who?"

I wonder how much jive he was laying out, though, and if it was, he's at least a journeyman bullshitter, if not quite a master.

Not a bad interview really.. but damn hilarious for us.

I'd feel safer letting Alex take my kid up east ledges than leaving him with most babysitters for the night.

I say from this point forward, he shall be referenced as "Sir Alex HOT-LOVE".

Honlove?

Hey! that's why it's known as Eyewitless News.

Back in the mid last century in High School one of my buddies dreamed of an appointment to one of the military academies. Three or four of us completely manipulated the local press to get him in the paper and gain the attention of the local congresscritter.

Ain't no creature on earth much dumber than a reporter.

Even politicians can completely manipulate them and they generally are just slightly higher on the IQ quotient than a box of rocks.

I know the media gets lots of things wrong, but some of you need to lighten up. She is a young reporter who obviously doesn't know anything about climbing. Thats not the end of the world, and to extrapolate outward that that means that every reporter knows nothing is just silly.

Its just friggen climbing.

The media rarely gets any story right. They just put up something as quickly as possible and air it so they can cover it before the competition. The more you know about stories in the news, the more you realize this.

That was priceless.

I agree with those who say they both did fine. Her questions weren't that bad.

Alex is patient and cool. It worked out just fine.

I mean c'mon, she was versed in Kevin's struggle, Wino Tower, Tommy waiting, Alex pimping the family up there etc.

And she was straight enough to know that Joe Schmo at home would probably need the baby in a backpack thing followed up a little bit.

Hell I'm impressed that Alex kept his hands in his pockets and wasn't all air climbing the whole time the way we always are when we talk to each other!!

"Wildlife sighting" was freeking priceless.

Climbing: What did you think of the infamous “Honnlove” interview?

Kevin: It is the best thing that came out of this whole affair.

Climbing: It was fun for us in the peanut gallery to poke fun as mainstream media tried to make sense of it. “Using only their hands and their feet” is something we heard countless times. What’s the funniest you’ve seen?

Tommy: The “Honnlove” piece on ABC. That was my all-time favorite for sure! [Laughs.] When he was talking about “Yeah, it’s just a 25-pound baby; you can just put him in the backpack.” [ed. The reporter had asked how Alex might get Tommy’s son, Fitz, to the top of El Cap.] Man, that one was great. Not to mention the fact that they called him Alex Honnlove. So good. Classic!

He is kind of a jerk to Hazel Findlay in his new South Africa movie, he tells her several times that she is overweight and should try harder... Seems like his ego is getting the best of him in this film. Sad really.

Really? Are you serious, or trolling/guerrilla marketing? ;-) I just watched the movie and didn't see anything like that. Once where Alex jokes "you are highly insulated" and she replies, "you always say that". Its normal talk between friends. I don't see where this relates to "overweight". At the beginning of the video, Alex describes Hazel as being the hardest woman climber in Britain. Hazel says that Alex is highly motivated and pushes people to push their limits. That's not being a jerk.

Thanks for getting me to seek out and watch this video that I hadn't known about. LOTS of incredible rock in South Africa!

Totally agree that he was definitely bad to Hazel, but I also totally enjoyed the film and Alex. I don't agree it's ego with Alex. He is just way different than us, if I can speak for us. haha Autistic, maybe? haha Even with Cedar you get the impression Alex is pretty much in his own world and not real tolerant. Of course, I don't know him, and when I met him in Costa Mesa he seemed very nice. But, it isn't all that implausible that he snuck down here from the mothership for a little climbing and so doesn't really have human social interaction down as of yet. haha
