i don't patronize professional therapists.
my aversion probably began in college,
when i lived with the hobos on the railroad
tracks behind my university.
them boys were my coach.
they helped me thru girl struggles,
struggles with my father,
even through academic uncertainty
did they hold my hand.
of course we always drank together, too.
thru and true.
so my marriage struggles are pasted all
over these pages and here they are again.
recently i took my confusions to the bar,
and when i arrived,
i left my trusted beer for some jack daniels.
up next to me saddles a 40 year old,
life-tested, mother-approved gal.
she is a nurse.
and she was a bit sad too.
our conversation wandered from
mexican food to my women's jeans.
eventually my story came out,
at her beckoning.
i told her what i could remember
and what i could feel.
and she and jack told me this truth:
"you're a musician without a guitar.
you are a cowboy without a horse.
and you'll never pick up either,
because your emotional wellness
depends upon your half-nakedness.
you shiver out your expression.
and you never change, you hear me."
and with that, she left.
the bartender, laurie likes to refer to me as chuckie.
only she and my mom still call me that.
she said, "chuckie. i remember
you as a kid. you were always polite
and uniquely decorated. i saw you grow up
and try to mature. it was entertaining to
see and hear your story from my side of the bar.
and now i know you as a man,
and i'm so glad that you have
shared you story here.
i hope you continue to
march in here for days to come.
oh, and that gal left out one
thing.
you are a witch without a broom.
and if you ever need to borrow my
broom, help yourself.
just always bring it back."
and another round of jack.

Twisted torment. Weegie, I'd share a round with ya.
The Solstice just passed, the days are getting longer. Slowly they come.

with johnny
with a small piece of almond stuck in my throat.
pass the jack,
i got an irritating tickle.

At the root of the expression of the cowboy, guitarist etc. is that sense of incompleteness. At the root of that incompleteness is the crux - thought trying to be alive, a parasitic relationship. At the root of all the thoughts and concepts is the concept "I" , the first thought. As long as this thought is mistaken for identity, that incompleteness will remain and we will continue to "create beautiful art" ...

Norwegian, When I was in my late teens I read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. The most freeing book I ever read. Though emperor of Rome, Marcus Aurelius wrestles with the limits of power and control over the things and people around him. As a stoic philosopher, he makes the case for our freedom and contentment being based upon our awareness and husbandry of our speech and our actions; that these are the keys to creating the life we envision for ourselves, though time and discipline are always a part of the equation.
There is numbing pain and there is contemplation of the roots of pain. Only one of those leads out of the maze. May contemplation bring you freedom and contentment, Norwegian.

in navigating the maze
and in navigating the route
we must honor
the dream.
and honor the nightmare.

I'm more of a Maker's Mark person, but around the fire or with friends, you just drink what's on the table....
Cheers, Weedge!

i forgot to mention this,
at some point i leaned into
the gal and extended my
right hand high over
my head
and told her that i was
a guitar without a musician
and would she be so kind
as to take my extended
wrist (neck of the guitar)
in her left hand
and with her right
hand play my face
with a gentle strumming
and i would sing out
the rest.
i like a good tickle, when it counts.

well put by the poet!
I drink mine with fresh squeezed limes.
the sour , the bitter rind mix with the whiskey,
to make a drink that goes from the gutter to the church and on to the summit or the top of the cliff.
cheers!

there are a 1000 ways to say, locker,
that with major jack at the helm,
we take the journey of a universe:
i begin as a pinpoint of a man.
confidence explodes and expands and swells outward to infinite horizons.
go jack!
eventually, though,
the emotional mass of the experience
exceeds the momomentum of alcohol thru his veins,
and his esteem begins to shrink back towards
that speck in the cosmos that offers
no light anywhere,
and we have a hangover.
everthing exists between hangovers.
