hi. i'm a climber from switzerland and would like to stay mid September for bout 15 to 20 nites in camp 4. BUT I read the follwing on the park's Homepage: -----" There is a 30-night camping limit within Yosemite National Park in a calendar year; however, May 1 - September 15, the camping limit in Yosemite is 14 nights, and only seven of those nights can be in Yosemite Valley or Wawona.."
I don't get this. sorry can anyone explain please??? ;-)TX so much! eugene

Too many people. Too few spaces.

Book a campsite and invite your partner to stay with you, then
Have your partner book a site somewhere else. Stay with him.

If you don't act up and are actually out climbing, no one will notice.

As long as you arrive on Sept 9th or later, you're good because it will roll over into the 30 day limit before your 7 are up. The main issue can be getting a site in the first place. You'll probably have to get in line at 6am (or earlier) and wait for several hours.

Before Sept 15, you can only stay 7 nights in any year in the valley. i.e camp 4.

Between Sept 15 and May 1st you can stay up to 30 nights for each year.

Is that clearer?

"Yosemite National Park" camping includes Yosemite Valley and other places 15 or more miles away but still in the park like Wawona, hodgton, tuolumne meadows.

To stay in camp 4, which is "as availabe" camping with no advance reservation, if you arrive on sept 16, there will be no problem to book a site in your name for the time you want. That is assuming there is any space available at all. If you plan to arrive before that, you must do what he said above, one person signs in their name for 7 nights (party of two) then when that is up the other person can sign if it is still before the 15th.

If you arrive on Sept 8th or later your plans will be fine. The 7 day period will expire on the 15th.

Otherwise you will have to bend the rules a bit. Which is not very hard when needed. One way is mentioned above.

or just go wall climbing and don't pay to stay in Camp 4 at all.

Go up to Tuolumne Meadows. Come back to the Valley later. Tuolumne is superb and 1,000 x less crowded.

I'll second that. Would be a terrible waste of your trip not to spend at least a few days in Tuolumne.

^^^ that's only in camp 4. Other campgrounds on the valley floor that works fine for, and I preferred staying in them anyway.

For one thing you can drive right to your tent. People bathe. And it was closer to climbs at that end of the valley. Cocktails on the Ahwanee deck were nice.

And it's actually not much more expensive if you rotate half a dozen climbers through the site. Did it for 15 years or so every June.
Of course, you generally have to reserve and plan ahead.

It was particularly nice when Upper River existed and you could get sites on the river with views of Half Dome and North Dome.

Could be hard to find a campsite if your stay coincides with Yager's Army being on the march.
This years Facelift was Sept. 21-25.
Perhaps if you enlist you could receive some leeway on your stay limit.
