short answer is no, dad. but i have been selling a bunch of gear tho mostly aid stuff. almost sold my haul bag but that was going to make me sad. probably will never see another wall but i'm pretty sure i can stuff a bunch of quads and camera equipment in there. scuba gear too.

oh... and the circulation problem in my hand is worse so i simply cannot climb when it's cold. and i might have some sort of joint degeneration going on in my feet so that causes pain.

this week was the first time I've been climbing in many months. probably last time roped up was vedauwoo in august.

I guess to add to that further I've decided that things are going to be very different when I turn 50 (21 months). I hope to be able to give up my programming job and do a variety of things that will serve me and the planet a lot more. really getting into photography and videography - doing all three "phases": land, sea and air.

This is a frame the Deucey designed - porta-quad.com. When he goes back to the Karakorum he's bringing one of these. it'll make route finding through the ice field a lot lot easier.

This one will eventually carry a gimbal for my cannon S100. it also carries a gopro on a gimbal.

My first love... now all rebuilt. trying to mount a gopro on the front with a gimbal.

25+ years of shoving feet into climbing shoes will leave a mark.

I just bought electric glove liners so that will help. tho not with climbing. but yes to climbing in warm climate. also why I dive in warm water. that's another direction i'm pursuing - should finish instructor cert in a year or so then off to Thailand. pretty sure Tonsai is butt ass warm all the time :)

Nature, I have the same problem with the hands; the circulation just shuts off at the slightest hint of cold. One of the treatments is blood pressure medication, calcium channel blockers, which open the blood vessels in the hands. It is one of the treatments for Raynaud's. So far the one I'm taking hasn't worked for me but it has for 2 people I know with the same problem. I've got a sh#t ton of ice gear that I might never use again and that is very depressing because I love ice climbing and winter sports in general. These gloves work pretty well but not good enough to ice climb as they only last about 2 hours on high heat as it was 24 degrees when I climbed.

Thanks everyone but i'm not in that bad of shape.

I switched to TCPros right before I went to India. That changed my world for the better.

I'll look a little deeper into this circulation issue. Someone here was kind enough to send me an email with a lot of valuable information at the end of winter last year. I sort of let it go since things were warming up and my hand wasn't bother me. guess i should go back and find that email and do something about this.

Or I'll just move to Thailand.

Steve - delivering sushi is just one plan. Deucey asked me if i want to help him market his porta-quad.com. I'm also working on writing a book with The ReverendPaganMonkeyBoy on how to build and fly these things. I also volunteered at sardrones.org.

I think most who attended the Vegas get together would say that the facilities at the group campsite were more than adequate. On site water and toilets, and sun shades for the picnic tables. Very affordable if you fill the site, and close to the loop.

Yes it can be a little windy occasionally.. But come on! It's Red Rock! So fun.

Nature. I gotta say, Red Rock had pretty good group camping. Water is hooked up now and running (it was not when we were there).

Behind the photographer is the large shade structure with tables and benches, the parking area is rich with flat ground, and on the left you can see the two hole bathroom in close proximity of the whole setup.

Behind Cosmic are two of the shade structures with tables and benches so you can see how large they are. And there are tons of places for tent camping.

If your right hand turned white every time the temps sniffed 60F or below you'd be considering your climbing future in a not so positive way. Nothing worse than being halfway up a cold crack and stuffing your hand in your crotch hoping it'll warm up for 30 seconds so you can do something with it.

otherwise. Hi! Miss ya bro!

^^^^^Yea, October like Mike says. Weston (strongly) suggested October too. I'll be saving the date fish or not ;)

Doug, I have one finger that does the same thing as your hand. It's kind of wierd to see 3 pink fingers and thumb along side this pale one. That's gotta suck to have your whole hand do that. Is that why you didn't climb at Vedauwoo? Climbing or not, however, the Ocean needs all the help she can get. Let me know if I can help in that regard. At a minimum, all the ocean gyres need to be cleaned up.

The bottom line for me is the state of all the wilderness in the world. Ocean is wilderness despite the fact that we treat it a giant toilet. It is the thing keeps me looking forward to each and every day.

To the sushifest's

Chris... thanks!

The reason I don't climb at Vedauwoo is because it's the WYDE and it's HARD. Kidding... really enjoyed the few trips over the summer grinding up off-widths. I've sold a bunch of gear (wall stuff mostly) but none of my Wyde gear.

The good news is with a hand like this I'll never again think about suffering on an alpine route.

2+ years ago I was at 303 Vodka and had wheeled my SushiCart in and was serving up Sushi for the Thursday Night Cruisers (very cool they let us do this). Roger Young came over and started talking to me and eating sushi - he was wearing on Ocean First Divers shirt so we started talking diving. Within weeks I was signed up for DCS training. A few months ago they hired me as an instructor (http://oceanfirstdivers.com/pages/Our-Instructors.aspx - note Gym!). It's great group of folks that really are "ocean first". Roger is now my boss.

I certified at Humboldt State in '95 but didn't dive much. I always said that when my body is not wanting to climb I would really get into diving. Didn't think it would be when I was 48 but here I am.

I've been working for the same company as a web developer for the past 7 years. My goal is by the time I'm 50 I will switch careers. Pagan Monkey Boy got me interested in UAVs/UASs. We now have a variety of vehicles in our Armada, have plans to get certified as pilots (and then leave the country since the FAA has their heads up their asses) and fly, consult, etc. commercially. We're also writing a book on how to build and fly multi-rotors.

about six months ago I flew out to LA and boarded the Sea Watch - Shark boat. We headed out the Catalina's and chummed for Makos and Blues. Meeting Captain Chris Wade shifted me. It made me realize I need to slip through the cracks of society and toss myself into the unknown and really try to make a difference in this world. Sea Watch is now headed to Costa Rica. Cappy has been issued a fisheries enforcement permit by the country of Costa Rica (not an easy thing to get) and he's planning on using it to bust illegal pirate fishing.

One other thing that happened on that trip is I met kev and we've become good friends. I was in Hawaii with him and Julie a two months ago chasing cetaceans. He got wicked drunk last night and I'm pretty sure he woke up this morning with a "Nature BFF" tattoo on his ass.

Add to I've decided to pursue photography and videography (terra, aerial, and underwater) as part of the next "phase" of my life. At our OFD christmas party a few days ago I brought in some of my underwater photography on my iPad. I shared it Roger. He looked at me and said, "these are yours?" "Yup". "Wow, I knew when I first met you that this would be something special". I'm teaching digital underwater photography at the shop and he's also doing education with the local schools and he wants me to teach at the schools as well.

I suppose I also need to figure out on what tropical island to set up the first Sushi by Nature sushi bar.

Ducks are starting to align. We'll see where this goes.

Here... hold my beer and watch this.

Aloha Doug and Aya, BIG Mahalo's for the invite, that was a riot!

Having been a veteran of Sushifest #1 I heard with envy a few cool plans for the future, and who knows our 20th anniversary is coming soon enough.

And dang if we didn't break that curse with a bang, we had two of us reeling in different fish at times.
Menu for the week.
Last nite Ahi sashimi
Tonite Ahi poke, and a couple ahi steaks rare.
Tomorrow fish taco's with fresh ahi.

BTW the boys did great last night, and we won by 18.

Again Big a Thanks, I enjoyed our time out on the blue.

was a bit of a different trip when when BooDawg went out with us.

I've never caught a tuna before and reeled in the first of about 20. broke it down and now we're having poke and sashimi tomorrow.
