"Why is there air?"He's dark meat for Thanksgiving conversations across America.

I am NOT a Huxtable at this year's table. (See the link above in QITNL's post.)

In fact, I never watched any of his TV shows but I Spy. And that was "dumb," too, but I was too young to see that back then.

His humor was pap, just as most "sictom" humor is.

His schtick, to me, made it seem like he was trying to be assimilated instead of being himself. In short, he "souled out," and so he gets no respect from me.

TV is a wasteland.

If Cosby's net worth wasn't floating around a third of a billion US dollars and was instead in the neighborhood of a solidly middle class farming family in Iowa, how many less accusations come to light?

Smells a bit of gold digging if you ask me particularly in light of his fantastic successes in two modes, (1) fame and (2) fortune. I bet there were a lot of chicks that tried and probably succeeded in getting the Coz Hammer to throw down. Did he take advantage of that, probably yes and to a great extent. And how many of these chicks are looking for a payout now that life has passed them by or is at least leaving the station?

I think this stuff needs to be added into the equation. Then add in that many of these accusations can't even be anchored by a filed complaint anywhere in the past. Hmmm....

The more interesting aspect of this entire Cosby thing is that for a decade this information has been out there for the media to exploit and for various people to express an opinion about---and yet there was silence. Suddenly an unremarkable young black comedian with a lackluster career comes along, makes Cosby's rapes part of his stand-up bit--- and just as suddenly the entire media has instantly discovered what they have known about for 10 years.

The important story here is not about Bill Cosby ; it's about a whole lot more of greater significance as regards the media and pop culture and how it functions or doesn't function.
It's about that media and its deliberately selective morality and criticism in culture and politics. It's about a vast cross section of the American public unwilling to hold certain people accountable and to come to grips with how easy it is to be fooled and conned by wolves in sheep's clothing.

maybe from the talk show circuit?

yes the imaginary talk show circuit. Where are the civil suits? The criminal charges? If there was any ulterior motive the women sure aren't clear on it. It looks like what it is, a handful of women being brave enough to say that something terrible happened to them.

One rape allegation? Could be bullsh#t. 2? We should look into it. 15 separate people, including working professionals willing to attach their name and a 2006 settlement case alleging the same thing?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's a rapist. He's going to live a long, full life as a rapist, as sad as that is, due to the statute of limitations. We can't convict him any more than we could retroactively convict O.J.

The bad only comes from when we compare the persona that has been on the screen all these years. The ideals that were mentioned in all the years. The fact that the man made a career in comedy without using cuss words after Bruce and then again after Carlin had let the cat out of the bag.
It's the juxtaposition of the two characters... One an upstanding father figure.... the other... possibly the worst father figure anyone can possibly think of... a rapist.

Luckily I will never meet the man to see how my distaste might manifest in his presence.

Yeah, I have trouble with the hypocritical nature of this too. While I was never much of a fan of the Cosby show, his comedy albums were funny, and I also thought his negative stance on gangster rap and the associated culture were appropriate.

But don't have much doubt this is true. Too many accusations, and according to a friend I have in the industry, it's been somewhat known for years. He just had enough money to keep it hushed up.

Very disappointing.

Who's more despicable, Bill Cosby or Donald Sterling?

Is this a joke? Donald Sterling let his girlfriend sleep with black guys, he just didn't want her taking pics with them (lol). Cosby RAPED people. Lots of them. Probably a lot more than are coming forward, if we apply college courses in womens' studies.

What I love the most is that he was this champion for 'supposed morality,' his shtick about 'foul language' and taboo topics were anti-comedy and pedantic.

A charismatic rapist continues to play the part and we buy it hook, line and sinker. Funny, really, but a tiny version of the bigger part of reality that if you speak slowly and clearly and peddle to simplistic beliefs idiots will believe you, indefinitely.

i almost feel guilty for posting this, as it'll probably be read by some as bumping a thread purely due to the gratuity of the story.

but that's not my motive. i think the more we as a human species continue to talk about and become more aware of how prevalent this sh#t [and by this sh#t, i mean in general violence towards women] still is, the better.

and so with that intent there's an incredibly powerful story over at the New York Magazine's website that documents both stories and photos of 35 of the 46 women who have so far come forward with stories of rape and sexual assault by a man once loved by almost all:

“People often these days say, ‘Well, why didn’t you take it to the police?’ Andrea Constand went to the police in 2005 — how’d it work out for her? Not at all. In 2005, Bill Cosby still had control of the media. In 2015, we have social media. We can’t be disappeared. It’s online and can never go away.” —Tamara Green

"The Yahoo page came up, and there was something about Cosby, this thing with Hannibal Buress. And all of a sudden, something just hit me. Anger. Son of a bitch! You know, a woman can be not believed for 30 years. But it takes one man? To make a joke about it? That f*#king pissed me off so bad. Suddenly I’m thinking, Who do I contact?” —Victoria Valentino

i hope his wife is able to wake up someday...

Speaking of Lance, was he juicing at the marathon?

Exhausted and nearly walking, Armstrong crossed the finish line in 2 hours 59 minutes 36 seconds. He was 869th, with a pace of 6:51 a mile.

“I can tell you, 20 years of pro sports, endurance sports, from triathlons to cycling, all of the Tours — even the worst days on the Tours — nothing was as hard as that, and nothing left me feeling the way I feel now, in terms of just sheer fatigue and soreness,” he said, looking spent, at a news conference.

With the proper dosage:

Armstrong had said that he could have run a sub-2:30 if he had trained properly, but for now he ruled out another marathon. Nothing in cycling ever came close to three hours of punishment at this level, he said.

So I say there is a big parallel between Bill Cosby and Bill Clinton–aside from their initials! Young feminists need to understand that this abusive behavior by powerful men signifies their sense that female power is much bigger than they are! These two people, Clinton and Cosby, are emotionally infantile–they’re engaged in a war with female power. It has something to do with their early sense of being smothered by female power–and this pathetic, abusive and criminal behavior is the result of their sense of inadequacy.

There are a few women out there that may have a different view than the Crankcase on what constitutes consent.

Eileen Wellstone, 19-year-old English woman who said Clinton sexually assaulted her after she met him at a pub near the Oxford where the future President was a student in 1969. A retired State Department employee, who asked not to be identified, confirmed that he spoke with the family of the girl and filed a report with his superiors. Clinton admitted having sex with the girl, but claimed it was consensual. The victim's family declined to pursue the case;
•In 1972, a 22-year-old woman told campus police at Yale University that she was sexually assaulted by Clinton, a law student at the college. No charges were filed, but retired campus policemen contacted by Capitol Hill Blue confirmed the incident. The woman, tracked down by Capitol Hill Blue last week, confirmed the incident, but declined to discuss it further and would not give permission to use her name;
•In 1974, a female student at the University of Arkansas complained that then-law school instructor Bill Clinton tried to prevent her from leaving his office during a conference. She said he groped her and forced his hand inside her blouse. She complained to her faculty advisor who confronted Clinton, but Clinton claimed the student ''came on'' to him. The student left the school shortly after the incident. Reached at her home in Texas, the former student confirmed the incident, but declined to go on the record with her account. Several former students at the University have confirmed the incident in confidential interviews and said there were other reports of Clinton attempting to force himself on female students;
•Broaddrick, a volunteer in Clinton's gubernatorial campaign, said he raped her in 1978. Mrs. Broaddrick suffered a bruised and torn lip, which she said she suffered when Clinton bit her during the rape;
•From 1978-1980, during Clinton's first term as governor of Arkansas, state troopers assigned to protect the governor were aware of at least seven complaints from women who said Clinton forced, or attempted to force, himself on them sexually. One retired state trooper said in an interview that the common joke among those assigned to protect Clinton was "who's next?". One former state trooper said other troopers would often escort women to the governor's hotel room after political events, often more than one an evening;
•Carolyn Moffet, a legal secretary in Little Rock in 1979, said she met then-governor Clinton at a political fundraiser and shortly thereafter received an invitation to meet the governor in his hotel room. "I was escorted there by a state trooper. When I went in, he was sitting on a couch, wearing only an undershirt. He pointed at his penis and told me to suck it. I told him I didn't even do that for my boyfriend and he got mad, grabbed my head and shoved it into his lap. I pulled away from him and ran out of the room."
•Elizabeth Ward, the Miss Arkansas who won the Miss America crown in 1982, told friends she was forced by Clinton to have sex with him shortly after she won her state crown. Last year, Ward, who is now married with the last name of Gracen (from her first marriage), told an interviewer she did have sex with Clinton but said it was consensual. Close friends of Ward, however, say she still maintains privately that Clinton forced himself on her.
•Paula Corbin, an Arkansas state worker, filed a sexual harassment case against Clinton after an encounter in a Little Rock hotel room where the then-governor exposed himself and demanded oral sex. Clinton settled the case with Jones recently with an $850,000 cash payment.
•Sandra Allen James, a former Washington, DC, political fundraiser says Presidential candidate-to-be Clinton invited her to his hotel room during a political trip to the nation's capital in 1991, pinned her against the wall and stuck his hand up her dress. She says she screamed loud enough for the Arkansas State Trooper stationed outside the hotel suite to bang on the door and ask if everything was all right, at which point Clinton released her and she fled the room. When she reported the incident to her boss, he advised her to keep her mouth shut if she wanted to keep working. Miss James has since married and left Washington. Reached at her home last week, the former Miss James said she later learned that other women suffered the same fate at Clinton's hands when he was in Washington during his Presidential run.
•Christy Zercher, a flight attendant on Clinton's leased campaign plane in 1992, says Presidential candidate Clinton exposed himself to her, grabbed her breasts and made explicit remarks about oral sex. A video shot on board the plane by ABC News shows an obviously inebriated Clinton with his hand between another young flight attendant's legs. Zercher said later in an interview that White House attorney Bruce Lindsey tried to pressure her into not going public about the assault.
•Kathleen Willey, a White House volunteer, reported that Clinton grabbed her, fondled her breast and pressed her hand against his genitals during an Oval Office meeting in November, 1993. Willey, who told her story in a 60 Minutes interview, became a target of a White House-directed smear campaign after she went public.

Like about everyone, I use to have so much respect and good feelings about Cos. I know that there are mean evil motherf*rs out there, met and deal out a few personally. But Cosby was one of the good guys, not just a good guy, but the best of the best. ..it just hurts to see this kind of terrible thing crop up. I hate to say it, but the evidence presented in the news rags appears near overwhelming to me. I often don't believe what they say as they need to manipulate us so that they can make a buck, but there are too many decent women who have stepped up and spoken out. I try and wait till the justice system has done it's thing, but in this instance, over 40 women have stepped up. I feel that the truth in this instance is out there, and its a horrible thing as I think we are seeing it. I feel for those women.
