I have always liked driving and driving my Ford Econoline was the finest experience of any wheeled adventure.
I loved listening to Wes Montgomery, especially when heading west toward Merced from the Valley or from Merced to Monterey.

I'm on the road - first stop....Ellenville, to update online - hahah. This was planned, for those who wonder.
I stopped at this place in Kerhonkson that makes pierogies ( http://www.facebook.com/pages/Helena-Specialty-Foods/111863455497088 ) and got two orders - so I will be having periogies for Blinner(breakfast/lunch/dinner) for the next three days. it looks like....
Then, my plan was to stop in Ellenville and do my daily email/online carp, and so as you can see, I am on schedule! Will go only to around the Deleware Water Gap today.
Gnome in the....I don't believe I know who you are. Can you let me know, please?
Multimeter - I was reading multimeters before I was in first grade. )Sheeesh.... My dad had multimeters, solder guns, wood lathes, a sheet metal shop(now THOSE were fun machines - and not a one of us 8 kids ever lost a pieces of a finger laying with them...Do I comprehend what I seeing when I read a multimeter? Hell no. Is it a requirement of some sort to be worthy?
Thank you all for the good wishes - will keep a running update as I travel.

9/10ths of all men can not read a multimeter. It just means that you have spent time trying to solve electrical problems. Plus you have enough brains and persistence to do it. If you took the time to figure it out then you are probably half way competent in at least something and could probably be taught other things. It shows a willingness and ability to learn. Some people just want a problem solved.. others want to learn how.. those who know how.. don't want to waste their effort of explaining on someone who just wants the problem fixed.
So its a sort of a level one indicator of whether a person could be talked through a repair or a diagnosis or not. But its not the end all and do all of everything. Electronics is its own world. A guy who can fix brakes and repair a tranny might get all flustered with electronics. So its more of an indicator of willingness and teachability.
It goes like this. You are on the side of the road and trying to diagnose something..
Oh.. you have a multimeter and you know how to use it. Cool.. I can probably talk you through this diagnosis of what the problem is.
or
Hmm.. its sounds like it might be an electrical issue. You say you don't have a multimeter and you don't know how to read one. Okay.. I suggest that you take it to a shop. Because I'm probably not going to be able to walk you through this diagnosis. Or at the very least I don't have the time to teach you everything you need to know so that you could help me diagnosis it from the side of the road since I'm not there.
Happy travels Happi girl.. :-) I wish you blessings on this new adventure. I just got a new used vehicle myself and am road worthy again. I might be in Josh this next month. I'm not sure, but maybe I will see you there. I'm looking for a new place to live.

It's a requirement to use one. I could care less about your worth. Only your ability too use a tool to diagnose a problem. So in this case you'd be spending money on a tool you have no idea how to use. That just doesn't seem logical to me. Better save the cash to give to the tow truck driver.

The "should I buy" comment was a joke. The first time my van broke down, Fish(if I remember correctly) said I needed a multimeter and the next thing ya know the place was divided into camps of "It's not electrical" and "it's definitely electrical" and verbally jousting quite robustly. Since then, if I ask a question, any question, it is suggested I need a multimeter.
Of course, IF I was going to buy a multimeter, I would learn how to read it.

Cool happie
Buy one and learn to use it. They are really handy to have. There's three things you need to make a vehicle run. Spark, fuel, and compression. I multi-meter can be used to test two out of three.
As far as the esoteric nature of the question goes I promise to get up to speed by reading all of the threads you have about your vehicle issues. I'll get back to you in a few days. lol

He has been surprisingly calm during the driving, considering that he tends to get nervous whenever the vehicle lows down and outright spastic when I put it into Park.
He's curled up and sleeping on the driver's seat right now. I need to figure out where to stop for the night and give him a walk. I am getting sleepy myself. 7pm is late for me....

Made it! Got into town about 1pm today. Same as it ever was - which is GOOD.
HOT - hahah! I wasn't expecting it to be so warm.
No van troubles the whole way, and a multimeter was not needed! But I do notice a leak has started which I THINK is the gasket on the oil pan. I am hoping this is a slow-developing thing which I can get taken care of once I have a little extra cash, but if anyone has info on whether this could go from a few drops to catastrophic very quickly, please advise(well, maybe more than a few - enough to see it would be rectangle shaped if all the dots were connected).
I have a friend from NY visiting next week, staying for about a week. Anyone looking to get out and climb, let me know. She wants to get in some leads about 5.6-7 area before she leaves, but this is her first time in JT and I am so out of climbing shape I can only lead like 5.3 with confidence.
So - calling all rope guns....please.... I bet she would like to follow classics like Illusion Dweller, Popes Crack, Sail Away, Double Cross, Poodles are People Too, Touch and Go....and I can't lead them.

IF you park like you're going to Outer Mongolia and head out across the desert you come to a point on the hills with a highly featured lower angle wall. A short easy bushwack leads to this wall with plenty of good 5.3.
Welcome back.

Anyone have an idea of the crag name for the one Spider Savage mentions? It sounds about my speed, but I don't want to suggest my friend that "oh, we'll find it" and just go, since she will be wanting to get her money's worth on the trip. If I can "look it up" then at least I can put half the burden of getting lost finding it on here - hahaha.....
