Hello SuperTaco! It’s that time of year again – the AAC Sierra Nevada Section’s annual dinner and show. This year we are excited to have Steve House for our show. Come see old climbing friends and make some new ones!

Renowned alpinist STEVE HOUSE will present his multimedia show “Nanga Parbat and Beyond,” at 7:30 PM on Sunday, December 7 at Spenger's Fish Grotto in Berkeley. The show is part of the American Alpine Club's Sierra Nevada Section Holiday Dinner. Everyone is welcome, and you can join us for the dinner and show or just the show. Dinner requires an advance online registration and payment (see info below). And NEW THIS YEAR, purchase tickets online for the show only option, as we expect to sell out the room’s capacity. Also new is a silent auction in addition to our annual raffle. For those attending the dinner, cocktail hour will start at 5:00 PM followed by a buffet dinner. We’ll open the doors at 7:15 for Steve’s show and the raffle.

Steve House is (yes, I know that you know this) a climber, mountain guide, writer, skier, cyclist, traveler, student, Eagle Scout, and red-neck by birth. He is among the world’s foremost alpinists, known for both his many first and significant ascents of difficult, technical routes at altitude and his advocacy for simple, lightweight alpine style. He is also the author of two books, “Beyond the Mountain” (2009) and “Training for the New Alpinism” (2014, with co-author Scott Johnston). Steve has won international awards for both his climbing (Piolet d’Or, 2006) and his writing (Boardman Tasker and Banff Mountain Literature prizes, both 2009). Learn more about Steve at www.stevhouse.net.

In “Nanga Parbat and Beyond,” Steve takes us on his 15-year quest leading to the milestone alpine style ascent of Nanga Parbat’s Rupal Face (with Vince Anderson). He then recounts the aftermath of that success, including his near fatal fall on the North Face of Mount Temple and his recovery. From the summit of one of the greatest climbs ever accomplished, to a hospital bed in Canada, and back to cutting edge alpinism, Steve shares his hard-won lessons and perspective discovered from pondering questions of self, success, risk, and fear.

This will be a fun evening for the climbing community. Join us and bring your friends!

I've seen this in nyc, though it was free at Patagucci. Steve has a really good presentation. Well worth it.

Here's the poster for the event. Steve is just back from an Alpine Mentors trip to the Garwhal Himalaya, where first ascents were made. I expect we'll hear about them and see some images.
It will be a great evening. Hope you will join us!
