Don't even know what to say. The game we play can be so damn tragic. At least we got to experience these special people.

Interesting quote from Fransson: "Society has an absurd general belief that life is about hanging on as long as possible. So people [are] often hanging on for the sake of hanging on and not for really living. ."

This is a view of San Lorenzo from the ridge behind our house in Chile. I have been following the weather and they have been having a BIG winter with lots of snow.

Such sad news. Loss of best of the best when it comes to steep skiing....
Bruce, there's a good article on the south face of Denali descent... here's what he says about the routefinding:
http://xgames.espn.go.com/skiing/article/6800684/andreas-fransson-skis-south-face-denali
"You can't see where you are going," Fransson says, "but I was lucky because when we went in on our reconnaissance trip, I took a photo. So I brought that up on the camera, zoomed in and found a way through. And there was only one way, actually, that worked on the whole thing."

Surely that must rank as one of the boldest technical descents to date
Nothing in Europe or the Americas compares to it except maybe St Elias which was not as technical but more remote at very high level skiing. There are more epic descents to be done in the Himalaya though it's hard to compare to Denali .. S.F. is more continuously technical than anything done in the Himalaya but the altitude does play a part in that.
For years many folks including myself coveted the south face descent. It was doable.. but you had to be both very good and lucky with conditions. Also willing to ski much or all of it sight unseen as climbing the route was probably more dangerous than just skiing it.
I was very happy and a bit jealous to hear it was done.. very impressed with the line Franscon chose also.
