Thanks Roots! Thought I was going to have to self-bump there for a minute, haha.
Annnnd now I'm on hold waiting for our IT company to get out here, fried something in the server room and I can't find it. Sigh. My brain checked out of work an hour ago, I am ready to get to the house and finish cleaning out my rig so I can wrestle the pig downstairs.

That plant is taking over. I think it likes pretzels.
Shouldn't you being filing a TPR report instead of goofing on ST? :-)
I should be there now, but am dealing with the aftermath of the most expensive tow of my life. At least it got to drive by Fresno Dome! Will be there in a day or so.

Ha! Good stuff.
Mike - in my office waiting on an IT tech that ended up being no help, had to fix it myself.
RyanD - hell if I know, they come in a big jug from Costco or something. But they rock.
Ricky D - someone took it :p
Fletcher - good thing about being a manager is I get to goof off a bit especially when I'm on unscheduled overtime. ;) And you don't even see a quarter of that plant. Was almost dead when I "inherited" it 2 years ago, now the thing runs across the ceiling and around about 3/4 of my office haha. I say it does so well because I put out so much hot air. Sorry to hear about the tow, that sucks. See ya when you get there.
Back on topic: The pig is finally packed and loaded. Have a few FISH bags left to haul down, and laundry goin. Few hours sleep and then I am outta here.

Lol! As others have said, connectivity is very tough in the valley, even if you get a signal, often it's overloaded and pics don't happen. If however you are the only guy on this side of the valley on his phone at the moment.. You can pull off some miracles....

That was one boring meeting, folks. Raven about artifacts.
Shout out to Mighty Hiker, who was given a distinction of some kind for his voluntary efforts.
Anders, enjoy your climbing when you get round to it and the same goes for the lads assaulting the Skull Queen.
Watch that organ, Travis and Scott! It's a giant one they're gonna haul and beat Pete's keyboard record all to heck.
Giant hugs to Fish Finder and not any shots of distinction this year.
Same goes for you know who.

Please forgive any misspellings - it took 3 tries in the airport to upload this right-side-up. This is my one and only FL picture, as I tried in vain to recharge my phone for 3 days.
Mouse, GLee, VegasClimber and Fattrad can attest, as they rescued me from the battery that I killed dead in my rental car this morning. (That's two dead batteries in two different cars in two different states in 3 days, and one trip...) Like I need the extra voltage - HA!!
But, seriously, you guys are the best. Thank you for rescuing me from my sleep - deprived self. I know I'm blowing y'alls' cover, but these rad gents even backed my car out of the ginormous rain pool in the YP parking lot and turned it around so that when I returned, I could pack up the car from dry land, camp site side. (They even kept my keys safe, too.)
Big thank you and even bigger hugs.
I want out of this airport and back to YP. WAAAAAAHHHHH!

Waiting for LilaBiene to arrive on her epic journey, I lingered at Yellow Pine through the morning. Having finally decided that she might not arrive until later, I started out towards the Facelift Command Center for a crack-of-noon start.
I encountered LilaBiene on the YPCG road coming in... turning around I observed that the weather was holding and if she wanted to get some climbing in we should do it sooner rather than later.
A short walk to Manure Pile buttress with a river ford got us to the base to find many teams engaged on the routes. We picked a different line to get onto After Six...
at the top of the first pitch
I was "On belay"... The Mouse has an image (above) of LilaBiene coming up on that pitch.
Pitch 3, the "flake" pitch, is often the crux for a non-Yosemite climber, seemed no problem... here coming up to the sheltered belay... a windy and cool day with a bit of uncertainty on whether or not it would rain.
A climbing team coming up from below, Japanese or Korean, and we had a Spanish team up above (busy day!)
I found a junior buzz worm on top of the next pitch... about 8" long and no rattles yet... sinuously trying to find some hiding spot... beautiful black diamonds on white background and a black head... never seen one up here before.
At the belay for the last pitch, upon being so informed, LilaBiene protested, "I want it to go on forever" every climb is the start of the next climb, so there will be more to come.
Classic "summit" photo
cool and stormy weather to come, the clouds resting on Cloud's Rest already. We got a climb in just before it would be hard to find a weather window on the weekend.

Dudes of all ages "working the Center."
"Who is the Black Diamond, really, Scott?"
"Haven't met the dude. He's the main sponsor of Facelift, though."
"I wish we had a bigger poop tube, or maybe we should take three?"
Good luck to VegasClimber and to Plaidman and their partner.

Just got back and we're un-packing today - a week without a computer.
I'll get some pictures together soon, but meanwhile...
Had a great time, the hosting gig for Upper Pines went wayyy smoother than last year. Got some cool gear from Tony at Clif Bar: a Renan Ozturk art trucker's hat (so sweet) and a Valley Uprising growler! Thanks Tony!
I did get something pretty cool and unexpected this year:
I was helping serve and direct feasters on Sunday after the closing blessing, and one of the native medicine women approached me and asked me if I could get her some shirts?
I was so on it...
15 minutes later, having found Schree and gotten keys, past a dog in the car, raced back to deliver the shirts to the three women who were having dinner before the regulars - I got a thank you and a hug from the one who asked me for the shirts. This also gave me a chance to say, personally and freshly-hugged, how much I LOVED the ceremonies.
There were a lot of Black Diamond and Patagonia items that went out this week, and thanks to all of the sponsors...
but how many Medicine Woman hugs were thrown out there this week? I wouldn't dare to guess...
Feel very fortunate and blessed to get one.

edit: I'm real interested to find out if Mr. E and Skip got any pics of the old encampment they found (I think on the Falls trail?). Skip gave me the lowdown on a very old encampment they encountered not too far off the trail that even the Park Service was not aware of. Guesstimating it from the 30s she thought.

1. Absolutely great Facelift. And Simon Verske's T-shirts are beyond superb. I got a few to be thrown out to the kids at JT's Halloween event after our Grabber competition in October.
2. It is Leo Burke in that photo, not me.
3. Met a new Facelifter, Zack Peterborough. with unending energy and we took out 100# of toilet paper the last two days.
4. No competition over Facelift awards. Those awards frankly belong to everyone.
5. Finally, seven years after the clean-ups of Rt.120 years ago, the turnouts on 120 are pretty badly trashed. Now that the NPS has put itself on the line by committing to Facelift as a model for its Volunteer Events nationwide, we don't know how to clean 120 and 140 while taking acceptable risk. (We were wild men back in 2006 and 2007. On 120 I had a tour bus make a blind pass on a dump truck, right where I was standing. I found it exciting but the NPS can't accept that.)
We have a neat problem to figure out before next September!

It was decidedly scary. Up near Crane Flat we ran into suddenly heavy rain, the RV's were sliding all over the place, and traffic was fast and furious. We were doing pullouts, but that heavy rain was unexpected. We exited the area right away.

I have seen people trash picking from a moving golf cart. The dangerous places, where there is no place to which to jump, don't require much reach. Put a signed traffic control vehicle behind the golf cart and pull it all into a turnout when the line gets too long. Undoubtedly this would involve the public in the clean up effort.

Did anyone happen to snap a picture of my birth mom Ann ' s sister Adriane and/or the equally photo - shy me together? (Even if it's in the corner of another pic, I would be so grateful.)
I realized only too late that we didn't capture a single picture of the first time we ever met.
She's awesome beyond measure, and hilarious to boot. ")
After she left, I was totally overwhelmed...and so grateful to be surrounded by my Taco family. The music @ Meat Fest, including Andy, BooDawg and was that Lynne on the harmonica ? (WOW!), was just what the doctor ordered. Absolutely fantastic!!!

I really wish I could be there with everybody at Yellow Pines. My kind of scene in my kind of place with my kind of people. I have many very special memories of YP's and Sentinel Beach, including its opening debut as an off-beat "alternative" campground in the early 70's, weddings, and YNP Trail Crew true BBQ's in the 80's. Every year, I feel flat-out stranded and isolated; I need to make the trip and be there one of these years to join in.

OK, so I am back and settled.
Time now for thanks.
Our amazing host Ken Yager for the impetus of volunteerism among the climbing community - the waters run deep my friend, and the pool is getting deeper every year.
Anders, George, Jim, Maureen, Harrison, Eric and Vicki, Andy & Rick (great to jam with you guys as always), LL for awesome harmonica accompaniment, Fattread, Chilo's Salsa ROCKS! Google it now... Tony and friends from CLIF Bars, Tony Yeary and AAC friends, the Access Fund...all neighbors for the week,The Sponsors Extraordianaire: Black Diamond, The Reel Rock Tour, Patagonia, Fat Tire, Tom's Shoes and glasses, and the rare Horny Toad blessing.
The presenters - what can be said of the quality of them but extraordinary - special thanks for the new presenters who put themselves out there...
Thanks to the base and ephemeral elements that contribute to this amazing gathering: from Yosemite Parks,DNC to the Parks Service to the medicine women to the simple volunteer.
Thank you, each and every one of you...

Great shares and photos everyone!
Just got home a couple hours ago, doing the resting and processing thing while preparing for the overload of work tomorrow after having to take an extra day off to get home.
I was having a lot of issues keeping my phone charged and my camera was buried in one of my pigs, but I will get some photos up this weekend. What a blast this year!

Here's a condensed version of Lisa and my time at Facelift. A more complete version can be found here:
http://www.yosemitecloseup.com/stories/yosemite-news/
Lisa and I set up our camp in the Valley on Tuesday evening, then attended the Climbing movie, “Valley Uprising,” which is a summary of Yosemite climbing between 1957 and the present. It was very well attended and most who saw it enjoyed it immensely. But naturally, among climbers, there were all kinds of “suggestions” for improvements.
Wednesday morning, Lisa and I registered at the registration tent pictured below, then went pick up trash along Hwy 41 between Bridalveil parking lot and “Tunnel View.”
The following day, we returned to “Tunnel View” and finished the job on the north slope below the parking lot.
Later, we stopped at the long turnout west of "Tunnel View" with its great view of the Valley and picked up trash below the rock wall recovering two more bags full.
The next day, joined by Guido, his daughter, Kali, and her friend Michael, we went up to Glacier Point and walked down to the Valley via the Panorama Trail, 8 miles downhill mostly.
There we met other Facelift friends, Michael, Susan, and Ingrid.
On the way, we got a GREAT VIEW of Illilouette Fall, sparkling in the sunlight, reminding us of the beauty of our waterfalls, even during drought years!
We crossed Illilouette Creek where there was a lovely view upstream.
As we came closer to Nevada Fall, clouds from the west continued to move into the area. Kali, Michael, Lisa, and Joe, with Nevada Fall and Liberty Cap to the left.
That night and much of the next day and night, it rained. On Saturday night there was good party at Yellow Pine, and on Sunday, soggy but happy we broke camp and went home.

Lynnie, your photos and captions are so cool. Thanks for being so dependable and caring.
I wish I could have toasted marshmallows with ya, but it didn't work out this year. Next year, God willing.
I'm about out of good Facelift shots, and as someone advised, you don't have to post a photo just cuz you have one. I'm trying to be selective and it sure looks like you have been doing so as well.
I LIKED your uke playing, and don't sell yourself short on your mouth harp, gal!
Here's my final shot for this thread, and there's a story, but it's short.
We're all having a great shindig under the tents, cooking and eating and yammering and feasting and the rain's kinda slacked off and the SUN MAKES AN APPEARANCE IN THE FORM OF SENTINEL ALPENGLOW, "the very best kind."
A minor panic ensues--"Wow!" and "Jeez!" and like that--and so a frantic Mouse runs out to his shooting spot, pods up, sets, shoots about ten shots, gets a few lucky ones, and sho nuf' the ONE is right here.
Only one other camera got trained on this alpenglow this night; end of story.
After six, but before seven, of course.

We had about 20 people turn out for Tuolumne Meadows. Significantly fewer than had pre-registered.
Our small team made up for numbers with camaraderie, campfire singing and cleanup spirit.
We had WEATHER and no one complained. But why would they?
Rain on three afternoons/evenings/mornings and light snowfall on three nights. Temp never much below freezing.
Five young women and a dog from Prescott College had a great time including going to the Mt Room to use a dinner they won and then spending the night in El Portal when 120 was closed by snow and ice. They made it back to break camp just before the official end of season Tuolumne Meadows Campground closing time.
SO here are some pics.
A few notes about the previous photo: Left to Right: Fred, Andrew, Tony (the three stooges) and Linda (obviously the Princess)
We were the last denizens to break camp on Sunday morning. Unfortunately I failed to get pics of the other stalwart Facelifters.
Andrew and Tony provided great guiitar and banjo playing and folk singing. Linda (not a climber) provided great cheer.

High Traverse, nice shot of the group up at TM.
Lilabiene and I met Linda when she got to Yellow Pine CG, following your advice, having driven down that morning. She related the story of the young women who went to Octoberfest and were stranded. Linda's a very sweet gal.
She had to get her tent set up before it stormed again, if it was going to do that. Glad to give her vacated tent space over, as we were going to leave shortly, Lilabiene set forth to help Linda portage her gear and get the tent up in a short time.
So that was two sweet gals and a Mouse, helping to set up that house.
See you next year, and thanks again and again for the ride.
