Beards are best for alpine climbing, a great way to carry your food....especially peanut butter and spaghetti sauce.

Jim aren't you heading to the winds soon. Better start growing one. Also good for alpine climbing on rainy days so you can knit a sweater while sitting in the tent.

I'm keeping the hat, though!

Careful of getting the long'uns stuck in yer belay device. I've found this to be optimal:

Edit: Jaybro, that hat is a beauty. Do you have a matching shirt?

Jaybro, that pelt is friction aid on the wide stuff. If you want to claim legit FAs, you have to shave that thing smooth and shiny. Actually, a little chest stubble might be even better aid.

Mr Brennan, that sounds painful and worthy of inspiring a new thread topic....

Tami, I'm guessing that Jaybro's chest pelt is only there to counter balance his back pelt. Scary!

To my understanding it depends upon the type of climbing that you intend to do...

If you want to boulder, you will be better off with a stylin mustache. If you want to sport climb you shave yourself clean. If you are intending to do traditionAl climbing then you want to grow a stubble/unshAven look. If you are planning on venturing into the alpine, a full beard is best.

You have only Mr. Dorworth (Yeti) and his cameraman to thank for that one at Mt. Rose.

Below first photo credit Phil Bard. Second is discussed somewhere here. I can't rememberwhere.

Maybe gives the lie to the old saw about blondes having more fun?

Zbrown. Bachar did a shaving commercial for one of the razor companies. I saw it on TV a few times around 30 years ago.

I remember it too, Andy. "The essence of climbing -- John Bachar. The essence of shaving: . . ." and then my mind goes blank.
