I searched and couldn't find a Vitaliy love fest thread, but I never can find anything on the taco's search thing.

This guy is one of the biggest reasons I check in for climbing content. Thanks for all of your TRs, each one seems to get more impressive and you represent climbers best. Keep it up.
I have even learned how to spell your name correctly, but am kinda glad your last name is only represented by a M.

Way more important to the climbing world than Chris Sharma. Should be a star in "Climbing" and "Rock & Ice." I've told them as much.

Guys like VM represent the real climbing community in a big way. It's not his FA's though he's getting some good ones, or how hard he climbs, and he climbs plenty hard. It's all he does as a self made athlete who has to keep a day job.

A real guy and a friend to all.

The most active, successful climber here....Vitaliy is a real treasure. "Stoked" hardly qualifies as an adjective to describe what he brings to this arm chair forum. Some of us like to imagine that he is getting it done like we used to.....hmmmm, we only wish.

Despite his display of questionable judgement as evinced by walking all
the way to The Sphinx he seems a good bloke and his TR's are top shelf.
On top of that he doesn't seem to hike his britches up to the point that his

Did anyone mention spotted skunks?!

PS: Tony Year is being quite nice. By hiking, he means barely gets through it and waits for at least a few minutes to commit to the final slabby part. I learned a lot more about bouldering that trip. Much scarier than trad climbing at times.

"Hey dude I met at the base of the Hulk for 3 minutes, let's do a 2300 ft route together in Patagonia day after I fly for 33 hours!" :)
That was a great day. Seeing the Cerro Torre across from us was like living the dream. Wish we found the campsite earlier though! The crux of the days was finding the tent. And it really sucked I hurt my foot on the hike out. That sort of ruined the trip for me. Hope to climb something with a shorter approach sometime soon though!

Moose, next trip will be some sort of cragging with a short approach. Woot!

I guess this is as appropriate as any.

First appreciation / story : A few years ago, I was very incompetent and epic's on Mt Conness (one of the easy routes, not the hard Harding one). I got back super late and the camp didn't know we got back late, so Vitaly hiked out early in the morning to find us. Oops. Sorry V. Later that day, we went cragging and I top roped some 30 foot 5.6 or 5.7 in really good style. I think Vitaly said something like "wow he has such great technique, I wish I could climb that well. Haha.

Few years passed, and I stopped trad climbing for a while. But when I came back to it, I got a chance to rope up with him and got a chance to follow on some climbs that I wouldn't have otherwise got a chance to do. I had a lot of fun on all of those climbs, it was great to get a chance to follow a much better climber, not to just see him crush but also to see him fight for what he wants. Its cool to see that as much as he lives the dream, he also fights for it too, and watching it makes you believe that things you previously thought were not within your realm may actually be attainable ... maybe ... one day.

Oh yeah, and good sense of humour, great pictures and TR and so forth.

Thumbs up for Vitaliy.

He's the yin to Eric sloans yang.

I mostly like how he keeps the stoke alive here for the climbers and sees it as a worthwhile pursuit to write and share trip reports here, never afraid to spray harder if needed, it's an effort that is worthy of respect in my eyes. Not a lot of people are willing or have the time to share like he does.

It's funny when he stumbles onto OT threads and gets serious too.

I hope he comes to Squamish one day and fights the Kid Cormier while I fill his backpack with sand.

I will make sexy time with your warm climbing shoes next time I see you, Adam.

Ed, it is interesting you mentioned that. I was talking to a friend earlier today about human perception. We imagine the "better" climbers crushing climbs. "Oooooh. He did the *insert climb here*! Soooo strong!" Most don't even think about how it was done or consider that these people are not much more special than you. Good example is you having that perception of me crushing. Lol. Unfortunately the real life is less glamorous. I struggle to get up most v4s at the gym. I have to try really hard on every 5.11 pitch and at times I fall on hard (for me) 5.10 too. But when you think of me you imagine crushing backcountry first ascents. Usually on the hike in I complain about my knees bothering me, get fairly intimidated by the climbs we find and than deal with rope clusters for 15 minutes at the base. :) not sure if I should say this in a thread that should make me seem badass. :) Anyway, I know many who are considered crushers and do bad ass stuff, but struggle on things the public would expect them to hike. People are people.
We do the same thing when we think of challenging peaks or climbs. Make up how difficult and above our head they are without actually trying them. Only when some person we consider human does it, we often find the courage to try. Did you ever notice how a group of friends usually boulder pretty much the same grade at the gym? Or when someone does a 'testpiece' climb, his/her friends also do it sometime soon after? At times it is for a good reason but at times our insecurity limits us. So it is important to remember things are USUALLY not as bad as we think they will be. And all those people we think are crushing, cluster f*#k and flail as often as we do...or at least they do too. Except Honnold, I think he just crushes... :)
Personally, I kind of enjoy the unknown outcome so that usually when I think of another thing that scares the hell out of me I hike out there to see how scary the thing is. Go to the base at least to see if it is as featureless and overhanging as my mind said. Usually turns out these cliffs are more featured and slabbier than we thought. And we are able to endure much more than we would like to admit.

Not really impressive, tried to improve the things that we feel less solid on. It was impressive to watch that guy do Coynee Crack placing like 4 camalots. WOW. The guy had control. Inspiring to see other people do things like that in person so that you could believe a man could feel very solid on green camalots too! That day I tried it as well. Did not style it! Was too hot! :) The trip was great though, came out of it feeling much more secure on ring locks, thin cracks and did more laybacking too, which is good. Indian Creek is like a beautiful gym where you could improve your skills on incredible cracks. Seriously, part of me wishes I could stay there for a month. After a few weeks you are only starting to feel more comfortable on rock etc. Month or two would produce really good results I think. And it was not enough time hanging out with Jim too! Good companies and stories are pretty much guaranteed when he is there.

RFShore, What is PDL?. . Priceless damn lead? Potentially deadly Lead? Yeh, that is probably it . .

Vitaliy is top shelf ~ many of us dream of his exploits. I hope he doesn't mind being lionized. His post to this thread show what a stand out, in the crazy collection of personalities here, he is.
A while ago he poked fun at me. I was thrilled to have been recognized,
He did not drop to the low level of the owner of his proposed shoe date. When I pointed out that the placement was a bit of an oops, a phuax-pa, if you will. . .
Picture it - this simpering, gimping, roadside top roping, fur ball that I am, asking the current champ of the food truck to take down a picture he posted to me.
What a great interaction, V took a cautious look and then checked himself, took the pic down said some thing nice it was done, need to say more.

His writing is perfect and pictures of gorgeous stone adorn his posts.
it all gives me hope for the future of climbing. I hope his humanity rubs off on his jerk crew
If they are that ( I Respect the Maggots ) but common gang. . .oh no what have I said?
Don't worry it has a typo in there so I'm safe. . .
If he can be the roll model,
with the humility and drive to keep heading over the next rise
and the ridge line past that one as well.
Keeping going and finding perfect stone loads of fun, life and adventure, there is hope for this climbing game ,maybe, after all.

QuoteThe whole "Bishop's terrace is closed" thing just sounded kind of funny to me. I usually hike/climb peaks and see rock fall often. The idea of a route being closed for climbing by 'the man' leads my thoughts to "this ride is closed" sign somewhere in Disney land...It is just weird for someone who is not used to anything being controlled anywhere. I bet not many can share my humor, but calling someone an idiot is quite disrespectful, we can live without insults.
