Here's one of those trees. A small one but weird none the less. The bark feels like bleeding.

Probably a silly question, and I'm sure the answer is no.
But, is there any climbers around there??

Southern AZ has some amazing climbing. I once spent a winter break climbing on Mt. Lemmon. It has such a change in elevation that climbing is in season at some elevation of the road, which has crags all along it.
Cochise Stronghold is also great, but I only spent a weekend there. Barely a taste.
I used to hike out into the desert in Cabeza Prieta. Pretty wild country other than being covered with plastic water bottles from the illegals passing through there. Organ Pipe NM supposedly looks like a dump from the air. Anyway, it just got too messed up with the Border wars. Cabeza Prieta used to be pristine, other than the military debris all over it, which somehow seemed OK. It is pretty remote for the lower 48.
Ed Abbey is buried there.

Time Out for the Arizona Time Machine.
The United States presidential election of 1964 was the 45th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 3, 1964. Democratic candidate and incumbent President Lyndon B. Johnson had come to office less than a year earlier following the assassination of his predecessor John F. Kennedy. Johnson, who had successfully associated himself with Kennedy's popularity, won 61.1% of the popular vote, the highest won by a candidate since James Monroe's re-election in 1820. It was the sixth-most lopsided presidential election in the history of the United States in terms of electoral votes; in terms of popular vote, it is first. No candidate for president since has equaled or surpassed Johnson's percentage of the popular vote, and only Richard Nixon in 1972 has won by a greater popular vote margin.

I kept thinking this thread was about the big News for Jefe

Big article this month in Scientific America about the New Telescopes being built.
The seven GMT 8.4 meter mirrors are being cast at the University of Arizona!
You have any part of this?
What about the TMT and the E-ELT!!

That's actually old news DrF! They've been casting those optics for years.
When I still worked there I wasn't involved in that program.
I did work on the massive off axis parabola, currently being polished there, which will be the primary mirror for the largest solar telescope in the world. Crazy stuff.
Presently I'm polishing some meter class optics that will piggyback onto a large telescope to look at dark energy. Very challenging aspheric lenses to fab and measure.
Next will be some large lenses that will be part of a camera roughly the size of a...portapotty. The camera will be part of a telescope that surveys the sky in an unprecedented fashion, requiring next level data storage and processing. Good ol Hartouni's employer is involved in that one.
The real big news is thisjustin's brother and I just crushed a five pitch bolted 5.8 on a bluebird day.
Get with the times brah. (thanks for the shoutout though)
Try look.
