I had to have my dog put to sleep this morning...

Age, sick, time...

So fuking difficult...

Almost incapacitating...

I never had an animal with me from start to finish, like with Dog...

Now I understand the other posts and threads I've read here through the years...

My good friend and loyal buddy, DOG 6/23/2014:

i Feel your pain.

We put our doggy down 3 weeks ago.

Next day a German Shepherd stray pup crossed our path. We adopted her. Life is weird.

SO SORRY for ya Locker.. Words--just that. But ive been there a few times over now.. So i know. I do believe in the spirit world and do believe the nobility of critters trumps any and all.

Surely he was loved and had a great life with you.

Peace be with DOG and YOu....

"
So this is where we part, my friend,
And you'll run on, around the bend.
Gone from sight, but not from mind.
New pleasures there you'll find.
I will go on. I'll find the strength.
Life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave.
Share one last look, before I grieve.
There are others, that much is true.
But they be they, and they aren't you.
And I fair, impartial, or so I thought,
Will remember well all you've taught.
Your place I'll hold, you will be missed.
The fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
Take with you this. . . I loved you best.

Damn, handsome pup. Sorry for the loss.

I just put my pup on seizure medicine a couple of days ago after he had 3 in one day. Scary stuff. He seems better now.

When we choose to share our lives with another, whether the other is a person or a dog or a cat, we sign up to share death as well.

Knowing that doesn't make the end any easier, though.

I am sorry for your loss Locker.

They're pack animals. Around the peak of the housing crisis, we were thinking about adopting a dog. I figured, one dog, by itself, might get lonely. I considered that their behavior in groups might be more entertaining too.

I tried to convince my wife to adopt a pack of Chihuahas. The shelters were overflowing with them. I wanted to name them Dean, Frankie, Sammy, and Joey. I figured a few chihuahuas would require about the same resources as one bigger dog. Everyone always asks, what color would Sammy be? Would it really matter?

Anyway, we got a precocious lab named Bentley. 1-2 year old dogs seem to be over represented in the pounds. My wife thought Bentley seemed too sophisticated, so he became Benny. It wasn't until my mom mentioned it, but he appears to be a purebred english lab, (and likely cost a pretty penny).

(get a pack of Chihuahuas together, and let's go cragging. if you're feeling hard, name them all Sammy)

Seriously, I'm sure dog had a good run ...
