the good thing about trad climbing is that there are plenty of awesome trad routes you can get up even if you're a sh#t climber. in sport climbing, that is not really the case.
i really like sport climbing. it's awesome. i prefer trad climbing though, you don't have to try as hard to have a good day out.
heheh.

Why not do both sport and trad and just call your self a "climber".
Throw in a bit of bouldering too if you're feeling reckless..............

Are you fricking serious!!!???
Long time lurker, and that's the best thread you can come up with?
Is there a difference between "sports" climbing and "sport" climbing. Maybe you need to take more ESL classes.

Where you talking about Kevin?
Diamond Falls? Head down below Cyclorama Point to try that wall across from Narrowneck then.
Then there's. Arapiles. Frog Buttress. Even locally at Piddington, Porters Pass, Bungonia and even the Warrambungles. It's alive and well if you know what you're talking about and where to look for it.
Even in Sydney, you can't complain about little crags such as Palm Beach with that mix of beach and BBQ.
You can always climb-on past if you don't want to clip the carrots and hangers.
Wondering if you should "give up"? By your own admission, you did that years ago. Now you want to spray about how hard you once were?

"Naked male sport climbers? No! I want naked male trad hogs! Pushing 50 or over, very hairy chest and back, front tooth missing (no dental insurance), wrinkled yellow toenail fungus, sunburnt dome with long gray ponytail (sparse curls will do), fingers the size of Polish sausages, torn-off nipples due to offwidth damage... Now there's a man, an image to behold, every climber chick's dream. And when he says: 'Hey, honey, wanna do the DNB?' you just melt into a heap of adoring lard."

Sports climbing is, in fact, quite played out.
The cool thing now is retro-trad: climb all the sports routes using all of your trad trickery: tri-cams, brassies, micro-cams, hooks with acti-tape, etc.
Now get out there and show those sissy-boys how it's done!

So how do people think these days, is sport climbing still for sissy boy woman's underwear wearing pansies, or is it more acceptable these days?
I don't get it... I'm primarily a trad climber, but it is because the proximity to trad climbing is easiest for me (Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows) and I actually prefer it.
But I'm not sure what part "Trad Climbing" distinguishes itself from "Sport Climbing" in the sense that one is "a man's sport" and the other is "a woman's sport"? The dimorphic explanation might be that male strength is more important to Trad Climbing? yet many women distinguish themselves in the Trad climbing game (as well as all the others) so it's unlikely to be the distinctive attribute.
Is the perception that Trad Routes require boldness in the face of certain death or dismemberment? and that Sport Routes are "safe" and require no risk? That seems an odd idea too, since there seem to be at least as many (if not more) injuries on Sport Climbs as on Trad Climbs.
The added requirement of having to place your own gear on Trad routes seems to be somewhat a distinction, and the shorter length of Sport routes (though many multi pitch Red Rock routes seem more Sport than Trad).
If in the end it's just the difference of whether or not you place gear, it hardly seems to deserve the invective OP ...
oh, I'v been climbing since 1970 and in those days we actually hammered in our anchors, real iron pounded with real steel, the fact that we currently place high tech aluminum devices for our protection doesn't seem to be "as manly" as "pounding iron" but I wouldn't make a big deal out of that...
...and these days I do climb hard Trad with a lot of partners who are totally bad ass and wear "woman's underwear," because they are women. I'd be honored to be compared to them.
