Some very good shots of the Kor-Beck "Dirt Direct" on Middle Cathedral here. Share them with everyone, not just The Larry.

It used to have the dirty rep, but has been cleaned up. Civic pride? Nope...people doing the route! Just lots of folks on the other routes--way too many, in fact--so you & the partner gotta do something, but what? Six pitches of Korishness. Then half a dozen frenzied ones when the crowd has left.

Layton made up 180 bolts out of strips of pre-drilled steel for the Titan. In the event, they used less than 40. The rest, he carried around and placed on first ascents all over the place. Not many left in situ any more. Showed this photo to Huntley Ingalls last night. He was super psyched to see one of these "easily recognizable" hangers still in place.

Looks like those Kor homemade hangers had both a 3/8" hole and a 1/4" hole pre-drilled.

Yeah, the Bell Tower (a.k.a. the Kissing Couple) is about the coolest Kor route there is.
My first time up it was an amazing experience. I even found a pin that Harvey and Layton left.

I spoke with Karen at length on monday. I've been sending her money while Layton's estate is (still!) in probate. Fortunately Roger Briggs called me this morning and it looks like I can use their 501.C3 status to donate in the future (more bang for the buck).

It was my first Zion partner, Kevin Kelly, that introduced me to Layton. (Spoke with him last night)

Thanks for posting Ron. Love that pic. Very Kor! I've yet to do the bell tower but sounds like one Kor route not to be missed.

Jim and Layton. Hard Kor!

Keep the Kor alive!

The Titan is Kor!

Fast Draw is hard Kor!

Wasn't Long Dong one of the only routes Layton repeated?

Medicine Man (.12) is s'posedly the radness, though, but only if you lead it on hexes.

My first time up the Watusi was solo in the year 2 BC

(2 years Before Cams. That, officially, was 1976 because it was 2 years before Friends came out on the market, but actually there were already Lowe split cams, one of which i had and used, but the rest was bongs and hexes.
In addition the year before Greg Lowe had allowed me to experiment with prototype Tri-cams. Which was way cool and interesting.)

Anybody that thinks Jardine is the father of cam nuts has it all wrong. He merely picked Greg's brain and stole his ideas.

Thats a beautiful Titan shot Larry, but not Layton's route.

AWWW SH#T - Sic Mic, where did your great photos and stories of the late '70s Layton Kor go?!!! WTF man?! Seriously dude?!

Anywhoozles, here is an oft-missed view of the preponderance that is the Defecating Monk.

And FWIW there is a most sexual 15' horizontality of handcrack on that old south side overhangage. If you like powdery wingate and ratshit and southern exposure in the summertime, and stuff.
