Actually, 181 days, which isn't quite six months. The 2014 Yosemite FaceLift starts (for most) on the evening of Tuesday September 23rd. Have you made your plans yet, booked time off school or work, etc? A good time will undoubtedly be had by all - old and new friends, doing some good for a place we all love, lots of fun.

Here's the mastermind of the event, Chicken Skinner, hard at work.

Plus Werner, a friend to all climbers and steady supporter, training here for his "buggy rodeo" with Donini.

Rumour has it that Ron A and the Sleds over Everest team will be attending this year, with wheels on their sleds so as to facilitate moving around garbage, equipment, etc. They'll be leaving Kneevader any day, to make it on time.

I missed the event last year because it came along too soon after my return from the Dolomites. I'm hoping for a repeat trip this year, but scheduled earlier so I can make it to the EVENT OF THE YEAR, our very own FACELIFT!

Anders. I hope to see you there! Count me IN!

High Traverse, Actually none. Just sign up early......and don't take my spot. Smiles, Lynne

Edit: But then again, if you have some laying around just bring it to the campfire. I think Big Mike or someone out there likes that stuff.

I'm in. Been planning already since I'm taking one of my best friends on a backpacking trip the weekend prior for his 50th.

I am thinking of doing a climber's facelift. Finding an obscure route not done due to munge etc, and clean it. Would be cool if more people joined in on that!

Just a few of the many happy participants in past FaceLifts. As you can see, it changed their lives!

Yet more happy helpers, in training anyway. From the Yosemite elementary school.

Hey Anders, I know that UCSB dude. The pink troll too. Who else have you transmogrified? Shame on you.

Anita, if you can make it to Facelift and are still gimpy and in need of an option other than sleeping on the ground drop me a PM.

I'd love to go. Someone wanna pick me up?
;)

Susan: if all goes well, I might be either frame free or close to being frame free by then. So I will be able to move around well, probably without crutches, so camping should be ok. We will see though. Thanks for the offer!

Yeah, I'm planning on it. My boy is big enough now to be productive in the cleanup. He's actually into sh#t like this, unlike his dad.

You can count on us showing up. Be good to see the old cast of characters too, which is really why I dig the event. But, as I said, my son will have a blast picking up trash so I'll be fully committed to the effort.

Davis, you should show up! I'll climb with ya, if you'll have me....

The only remaining question is Meatfest, Pastafest, or Tacofest? Are y'all still doing the meatfests?

Anita, trying to at least reduce our impacts on the environment is part of the point of the FaceLift, so we try to carpool and stuff. If you can somehow get yourself and your stuff to California, something will turn up. Sacramento, Bakersfield and Fresno would be easy, and Los Angeles and the Bay area possible. People come from all those places.

Camping at Yellow Pines is within a few m of vehicles, and at Camp 4 up to 100 m. Buses and carpools help people get around. Some of the 'jobs' are relatively less active, so that could be worked out too.

If you're flying, it's also possible to borrow or share needed camping gear.

Anita, if you fly into San Jose Int'l airport, I got ya covered. You can even crash at my house!

I live 5min from the airport. Since we're a family of 3, 1 more can comfortably fit you into our vehicle to the valley.

anita or anyone else (not just women) worried about transportation.

Plenty of Bay Area and LA Area people come.
SFO is closest and often cheapest, major airport. LAX good if you're also planning to visit southern climbing areas.
Post up here a couple of weeks in advance and you'll find a ride to the Valley.
Once there, you'll find a ride home.

Unfortunately, by that time, the blunderful Yosemite transportation system will have likely stopped its service through Tuolumne Mdws to the East Side.

My boy is big enough now to be productive in the cleanup. He's actually into sh#t like this, unlike his dad.

I got a call from a young mother with a two year old boy, wanting to stage an event to clean up the desert in part of Yucca Valley. The youngster was fascinated, showing us every treasure he found and wanting to know what it was. I failed badly though not getting a photo when she was carrying him on her shoulders while picking up trash.

There is some human nature at work here.

Patience, please. No doubt planning and organizing are proceeding apace, but as in past years, I suspect actual sign-ups for camping won't start until June. Plenty of time to plan, with the FaceLift at the end of September. You know the dates. Ken and his team are surely working away at everything that needs to be done.

With regard to camping, it is a privilege to have free camping in Yosemite during peak season - even with all our efforts. When the time comes to sign up, please:

1. Be definite about your plans - exact names, dates, etc.
2. Be flexible about arrangements - which campground you'd prefer to stay in, group solidarity, etc.
3. Be reasonable in terms of expectations.
4. If your plans change, before or during the FaceLift, let whoever's responsible know what's happened.
5. Don't abuse the privileges we're granted. It is, by and large, a time and place for boring, responsible behaviour.

Otherwise, floggings will continue until morale improves.
