Right on cue. Chef

Just another what ever or who ever starting another stir up political bullshet hate thread.

I pertain to and am a very active member of this non-political affiliation. Makes the tea party look like some pre-school dirty diaper wearing outfit.

I do agree with you one hundred percent Chef, that US treatment of Vets is SHAMEFUL

chief it is largely of convenience
that you tout your independence
and self-sufficiency;

it sounds so good and brave and proud
in your own ears;

but to the periphery spectators
it is clear that someday you will
need help.

backed into a corner, you'll be,
because, dammit you stood for freedom
and hands off me, all of your life.

but that hand'll start to raise,
and you'll push it back down,
cause, "only you take care of you;"

it'll raise again, like damn jesus
and you'll surrender and have
to swallow all the mean and senseless spew
that you drooled out over you life,
and some compassionate person will be there
at your side.

unlike damn jesus.

I made the Patrick Sawyer - Patrick Oliver mistake once too.

This thread is very entertaining.

A coward runs and avoids conflict.

What kind of person goes into a different kind of battle? To die at Kent State, to stand against the tanks in Tienamen Square?

Give me a gun and I'll shoot a bad guy in a heartbeat.

Show me a bad guy. I've never really met one or heard of another human so bad he needed killing. Not when sitting down and talking things out would do.

Yes I'm sure you have a list but if you think about it, things good have been worked out other ways.

An army of intelligent people with good communication skills and the ability to rationally work out problems will some day conquor the world.

Now bugs, that's another story. Where do I sign up for the Starship Troopers?

Good post Patrick. Nice frenzy going right on the first page.

At first I thought having an anonymous avatar was part of the ground rules for being on supertopo..? I believe it adds a certain dimension of fun not knowing who is slinging the feces and trying to guess which climber is posting....Does having a real name change the ground rules for talking smack..?

RottingJ nails it. When I first entered this fray I too believed that the anonymous avatar was de riguer. Nearly everyone here (Chief included) has an avatar that is at least semi-anonymous. But I am constantly amazed at how many of the posters on the right hand of the political spectrum keep having to create multiple avatars to spew their unsubstantiated sputum
I just don't see the lefties doing that. They seem to be content with a single avatar and consistent perspectives. Chief doesnt acknowledge the anonymous righties who spew vitriol and anger when he condemns the lefties. Why are the rightie whities so cowardly.

For myself, I have never found it necessary to hide behind annonymity. I am comfortable with and secure in my opinions.

The Tea Party, despite being marginalized by the media, is rising.

Delusional as always. If by "rising" you mean crashing and burning, then sure.

Monday, January 07, 2013

Views of the Tea Party movement are at their lowest point ever, with voters for the first time evenly divided when asked to match the views of the average Tea Party member against those of the average member of Congress. Only eight percent (8%) now say they are members of the Tea Party, down from a high of 24% in April 2010 just after passage of the national health care law.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 30% of Likely U.S. Voters now have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party. Half (49%) of voters have an unfavorable view of the movement.

It's the Teapublicans that refuse to fund the Veterans Administration. Responsible social policy would fix that but too many foxtards got uneducated when their leaders defunded education. They ain't got the sense god gave a goat. You can't eat bullets. In Switzerland they call the infantry "bullet-catchers." It's not a thinking man's job. Just do-or-die.
My name is Brook. I'm a dad. I climbed some. I taught some. I did a little TSAR. I'm a carpenter with thick callouses. I've lived in 6 countries on 3 continents; Some socialist some oligarchies. I speak more than just English. I'm a laborer and a business owner and a producer and a maker. I'm not hiding.

Only 1800-ish BASE numbers out there. It's almost a certainty that you end up knowing them, or they are friend of a friend.

You're wrong here. And conflating the 2 terms is to not understand what the Tea Party is about.

It was establishment Republicans that allowed for the defunding of the VA. Not tea-party associated conservatives.

And let's be clear, let's not leave out all of the Democrats who supported this thing. Apparently they get a pass?

EDIT:

I'm pretty sure we have a thread for this already.

HighDesertDJ, you mean the Jan Berry song or the mud slinging and name calling? I am confused. I searched ST and could not find a thread about The Universal Coward.

Stop confusing me. Now I have a headache.

And honestly, I started this thread out of fun, joviality, not to be caustic nor have it turn into a slanging match or fisticuffs or…

I should have known better by now, some nine years on ST. Mea culpa.

Pat Ament (aka Patrick Sawyer)....

I truly thought that you were waaaaaaaaaay above this kind of menial childish political bullshet.

Must be the fact that you are getting old and are bored.

Lost tons of respect for you on this one.

Redemption = Nuke this frkn useless thread.

The Chief, I am NOT Pat Ament, and by you writing that it is an insult to a man I admire.

Okay, I did not want to start the slugfest it turned into. I was just having a bit of fun early in the morning, hoping people would see… the humor I guess.

I certainly will make it a point not to start another thread along these lines. My mistake. But, I won't nuke it, I just won't make the same mistake again.

And how the hell Chief did you think I was Pat Ament? I have started some silly threads. Pat would never do that.

Weird.

Dave, I tell you what is meaningless, me thinking I can keep taking back moves in chess versus the computer, and then feeling empty when I win. ;-)

I still say the computer is rigged.

The Chief, I first joined Supertopo in 2005 as DPatrick, but after a month or so asked Chris to change it to Patrick Sawyer. Every forum I post on - Irish Times, BBC, CNN, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, SF Chronicle, UK Climbing, Climbing.ie, Mountain Project, Summit Post, Irish Sailing/ISA, etc - I always use my name, no avatar. I am real.

Maybe I should not post this image, but what do I care. But I am no sh*t stirrer or troll as such like you seem to think I am. Sometimes I like to have fun on forums, and I try to make it clear.

And I think you owe Pat Ament an apology for confusing him with me. He is a far better man, more mature and better climber than I could ever be. I used to lead 5.11, now I sh*t me pants following 5.8. Pat/Oliver could still out climb me. Blindfolded.

EDIT

I have to add, I am no angel or saint. I just try to do my best as a person, partner (climbing, scuba, sailing), journalist, actor, zoologist, writer, and especially a full-time carer for my fiancée, Jennnie. I have NEVER hurt or screwed anybody (banks and credit cards do not count). I like the Taco Stand. I have posted some pretty dumb things, and with one or two exceptions, I stand by them, even if they were stupid.

I will NOT nuke this thread Chief. I believe you were a Chief Warrant/Petty Officer(?) in the services. Fair play to you. I never served. But that does not make you a better human than I am.

When Jennie came out of two months hospital (August 2010), the doctors and social workers said "either State Care or home care (me)". My editor and a couple of others said to put her in State Care and have a life. I had well over €100,000/$140,000 in the bank or at my disposal (shares etc).

I opted to stick by Jen. I haven't sailed for over three years, the ice climbing in Scotland two winters ago, no go. Wanting to join (did some SAR in California in the 1970s as an EMT 1) Dublin-Wicklow Mountain Rescue or the Lifeboats - how can I take a 2am call in the morning and leave Jennie behind. I am her carer.

Again, I am no angel or saint but Chief, I do NOT need you judging me. I do that every day when I look in the mirror.

EDIT

How come passport photos and such make one look hideous? I used to be a handsome… okay hideous, they say picture don't lie.

Come on Bluey and Dave, there is enough "animosity" on this thread.

Yes, I am tempted to nuke it, but other people have taken their time to post.

Perhaps I should be the last post so this thread disappear into oblivion.

I was just trying to be lighthearted when I started it. Perhaps taking a sly but friendly dig at some, but nothing vicious or mean. I was hoping that would have been obvious. I guess I failed.
