Seems like the climbing is the easy part and messing with the gear and the clips is the hard part;..especially the right hand bolt clips and right leaning cracks......the right hand does not handle gear;..there IS no right hand.......the "nub" holds on, while the left hand does it all;..........

Right. I guess what I was thinking was the possibility that he might use his right arm to transfer longer slings with pro from around his neck to his left hand which would be busy holding on until the sling can be in a position to have the pro placed. Once the pro is placed he is then free to use both arms to hold on. Next , when he is stable again, he uses his left hand to clip the rope to the sling.
Maybe I'm overthinking all of this.

having one hand is easier than it seems for the most part, but it definitely has it's moments. to correct Todd's above statement, it is right slanting cracks that i have trouble with. i've lead 5.10 left slanting cracks, but then have also been shutdown hard on some right slanting 5.7's like the second pitch of Overhang Bypass here in Joshua tree.
the hardest part of climbing with one hand for me is thinking with one hand. it hasn't even been 4 years since i lost my hand so my brain is still getting use to that. i'd say give it another couple years and i will be leading 5.11's at least.... that is my goal anyways. if i can reach that goal then my next is to compete in the U.S. paraclimbing events. i'm going to try hard to be ready for that in 2015.

I almost lost my foot in Vietnam, and after a long recovery, did multiple big walls in Yosemite. It's great to have a passion for a sport, which keeps the spirit up.

Tyler is a good guy, great climber and all around good spirit to be around. Amazing how he makes due with the "nub" and climbs some pretty hard stuff. He'll jump on the sharp end, is willing to take a fall and has caught a bit of the new route development bug. On occasion, as Todd has mentioned the clips are all right handed, and that is problematic but not really a deterrent.
Tyler tells a good story about blowing is hand off, the paramedics response and what ensues afterwards at his home. All again, in good spirits.
I never think twice about having him belay, he seems to have that wired too.

There is a climber in Calgary, Dave Crossley, who was born with no fingers and only part of a thumb on his right hand. He leads 5.12 sport and 5.11 trad. He can hang off the smallest of edges with his right.

Awesome Todd Tyler looks like a really good climber. I have taken out a student that has a similar situation as Tyler but with a much shorter stub. He is incredibly talented and really did great.
