Thx guys. My wife asks me why I watch that video over and over again. It's cause every time I watch it I am right back there.

I wish it had taken me a month. It was truly one of the best times of my life. I had the route all to myself. Sure was awesome having all that time to really drink in the wall and just be there. Sitting out the snow storm was wild.

Did a slide show for some folks last night and they seemed to like it.
I really did get some great shots. But as I am not a pro photographer the pics were really just a back drop to tell the story.

Now I want to do it again. Thinking about doing The Shield. Not solo this time and a whole lot faster.
We will see.

Plaidman that was great. Thanks for sharing. What an awesome experience for you. Sounds like your hooked.

Hey you should ask Ken about doing it at Facelift. Your going to be there anyway. I know you will.

Nice footage, loved the narration, esp. the last line. You actually brought a work out device on the wall?!?!?! Wow! As if climbing the wall solo was't enough? Cool accomplishment indeed. Congratulations.

Hey Scott,

Congratulations on the biggest solo of all - the first one!
I was so stoked to see you had done Zodiac. I think it has to be the best first solo. Steep, beautiful and possible to escape easily until you are on the 8th or 9th pitch. As Matt says, welcome to the El Cap Solo Club.

Can't wait till we meet in the valley next time. Wishing you all the best.

Cheers,

It's cool and all...

But for some real feedback...(since you asked on Facebook)

1. wtf is that music? Really? Come on this is wall climbing...put some AC/DC on.

2. Cheater Stick photo bomb on the Black Tower? delete that part asap.

Still, congrats on making it to the top.

Music choices are what they are. Listened to a bunch of AC DC on the wall. There is that great Fm Rock Station somewhere about 104.7 I think. Jammed to those tunes most of the way up the wall.

I left the stick clip in the video as that is the honest truth. I cheated like a MF. But as my confidence grew I didn't need it as much.

The most scared I got was on pitch 12 leading the expanding flake in the dark by headlamp.
I almost puked but kept plugging away. I had to remind myself that it was an expanding flake and not a falling off flake. Overcoming fear is kinda fun afterwards.

Man I would like to be there right now! Not on pitch 12. Just on the wall. I am certainly addicted and am planning my escape at this moment so I can run away from home again.
I probably won't ever get 6 weeks in Yosemite and 2 weeks on El Cap anytime soon.

It's a calling, once you've tasted that feeling of clipping the anchors at midnight after you almost puked, to the joy and elation of pulling over the summit...it pulls you back.

I cheated like a MF.
I remember somebody (nameless) getting all up in Hudon's sh#t about how he soloed some of the stuff he did on it. Probably cuz there is alot of feelings about the pioneers dying or living on the thing with a supposed higher ethic. I am in no place to judge tho.

^^Some would call it pure trickery, but there was no cheating to gain the top of The Black Tower.
I swear I never had so much fun as I did on that climb.
Sure I was terrified at times but folks told that was going to happen.
In totality I felt like it was the best climbing I have ever done.
I was just good enough.

Nice movie, Plaidman.

But dude - your choice of music SUCKS. That first tune for the first three minutes is appallingly bad. What were you thinking?? I'd've thought an old fart like you would know a thing or two about proper music - like Led Zeppelin or the Stones or AC/DC or something.

Sheesh.

Nice send.

Was hoping to see something about your epic descent ordeal and how all that went down, too! Tell us about that!

Trying to catch up on things I missed while away from ST...

I have to say that Plaid taking up climbing later in life, surviving his first somewhat [eccentric] sketch years, and ultimately soloing Zodiac (in any style over any period of time) is one of the most impressive life feats of perseverance and determination I've seen in my forty years in the sport. And he lost a ton of weight in the process finally putting him into prime free climbing territory to boot. Most of the folks I have seen try to do the same thing either quit pretty fast or were badly injured and quit - not Plaid; he stuck it out and somehow survived himself (no small deal) to accomplish a pretty amazing goal - impressive overall and definitely due some serious kudos for his effort and tenacity.
