Howdy, all! I chatted this up a couple of years ago, but it's finally going to happen!

February 27 - March 2, 2014 in Yosemite Valley

This is the inaugural event and this years theme is "150 years in Yosemite."

We've got Glen Denny lined up to present "El Capitan" on Friday night, and will be playing several other climbing flicks throughout that and other days.

Mammoth Brewing is a sponsor, so we'll be serving beer in the Auditorium kinda like FaceLift. Live music Saturday night with the funky Jelly Bread!

We're still propagating the website, so there are more films playing then we currently have listed at

http://www.rolff.org

Tickets went on sale this week, and there's a limited number of seats, Press release went out on Monday, and got picked up by the LA and NY Times, so get 'em while they're hot!

You should include this. I never tired of seeing it in the lodge amphitheater.

Tickets? I thought you had a sponsor - the only way to go these days.

What is the schedule, costs, etc. Thanks!

Steve congratulations for making this happen. Can't think of a better place for a film festival. I am sure it will be a success.

Posters are going up this week, and the original of this great Half Dome artwork by Jeremy Collins will be on display at The Ansel Adams Gallery throughout the festival!

Looks like a great list of films, and $30 sounds dirt cheap for a full-festival pass! Are passes for sale anywhere in/near Yosemite (hope to be there later this week), or only online?

Right now, they're only for sale online, but we hope to be selling them on-site during the festival, although those details are still being worked out with the Yosemite Conservancy.

One week until the festival begins, and we've got these sweet 11 x 17 posters by Jeremy Collins for sale on-line for those that are interested.

...and the posters will also be on sale at the Festival, unless we sell out. We've only got about 200 to sell, and we've already sold that many tickets, so we'll see.

Headed out tomorrow! Can't wait...hopefully the weather doesn't keep folks away...but more importantly, hopefully, the high country will be WHITE WHITE...we're takin' our "stuff".

Maybe the weather will keep everyone in watching the films? I'll be there but doubt I'll be on the rock at all!

We need something like this on the East Coast, but then again--it isn't Yosemite. It would of been fun to take this in.

Great job Steve, that was an awesome weekend! Thanks for taking the time to put it all together.

Lots of GREAT films (I'm looking online to try to watch the ones we missed), but I think my favorite was watching you try to be in five places at once.

It was great Steve. I was educated, entertained and deeply moved. Many hankies were passed between me and the crusty Ferretlegger as we watched The Wolf and the Medallion . I was familiar with his work from Facelift a few years ago when The Border Country was shown. But this one .... Taking live action, animation, a climbing epic culminating in a letter to his young son with 10 lessons of life is nothing short of astounding.
If you can get to a festival or event where it is playing...do go. As one film reviewer said about it "if you see one film this year, this is it"

Thank you Steve for your hardwork. I hope this becomes as much a part of Yosemite as Facelift!

[Click to View YouTube Video]This does a little to give the idea of how good this group was.
https://www.facebook.com/jellybreadmusic/info

I spoke with drummer extraordinaire CLIFF PORTER (sic!) on Sunday morning as the band members were loading the van to head back to Reno. He loved that they were able to play at the inaugural event and he thinks it's a good way to spend a rainy weekend in the Valley, no-brainer!

There is tremendous freedom to move around, here, too, based on the scheduling of the films--two venues, side by side. You can spend more time outside when the weather's nice, of course, but the flexibility in times and the number of repeat showings over the course of the festival is a very good feature.

AND the host, YO STEVE, is an infectiously energetic man who knows his stuff. His lady, Athena, is to be envied.

A very high rating for this event, a real great addition to CLIMBING EVERYWHERE, not just in California.

And the news flash, of all news flashes, not ALL the films are about climbing.

MILE, MILE AND A HALF was soooooo good! And the crew, Durand, Jason, Ric, Zee, & all, who collaboratively walked the miles and collected the smiles, they are all SOOOOO FRIENDLY, and little miss Isola is such a great dancer, too! It was a thrilling story of the last big winter in the Sierra Nevada, when we had a 200% snowpack year, just prior to the beginning of the current drought, and a 25-day effort on the JMT. It was like a sledge hammer blow to the already dehydrated, realizing this, and it was a great tale of gritty determination and trail friendships. Four stars.

THANKS, Yosemite STeve!!!!

edit: I meant to include the fact that ST is a sponsor of the event. I also caught the credit for Chris McNamara as a cameraman in Sufferfest.

Thanks for the kind words Mouse, Susan, Daniel, et al.

The highlight of the Range of Light Film Festival for me was opening night, presenting "Yosemite: The Fate of Heaven" and spending time with my filmmaking hero Jon Else.
