Besides the fact that half of it is missing and it resembles Lembert Dome, what's wrong here?
God bless my new tripod!

If anyone was awake to see the moon at its apex tonight, it was nearly straight overhead, seemed like, anyway; and if I had needed to crank the tilt anymore I would have been shortening the back leg till I got it right or it fell backwards. This new rig lets me do all this set-up easily enough, though.

And as Walleye sagely pointed out, the real professional has this set-up by the numbers, quickly and with no second-guessing. Experience is good to have.

Technical question:
Why is there a faint bluish-greenish tint to the border of the moon's image? Is it the focus?

This is a 300mm lens (my only lens as of the other night when I got ripped off) of the older variety, not made especially for digital cameras. It's parameters are for a film camera according to Steve, the YARTS driver, who used to sell this equipment. He claimed that this lens had a larger working range than 300mm, in effect closer to 400mm.

"I may have gone over the top, there," said the cow after jumping the moon.

The dish and the spoon agreed, of course, they always did; the little dog laughed; and the caravan moved on.

Here are a couple from last week. An old 256 MB card in the Canon SX50 seemed to get better images that the new mega cards but I could only get a few at a time. 2nd pic below had clouds moving through which gave it some interesting lighting.

I noticed driving up to Tuolumne on Saturday that the crescent moon at sunrise was in a beautiful near conjunction with Venus and Jupiter and I followed the moon until I lost it to the sky brightness at about 6:29am.

That would have made a very nice image... but I had only to enjoy it, which was ok... but it also got me ready for the new crescent... last night it was too low and only 2% illuminated and not possible to see.

Tonight was a possibility, but I didn't spot it until it was very low, nearly setting... at 6% illumination. Unfortunately I had the wrong lens on my camera, but I had to shot anyway, no time to change...

Tomorrow night you should see a beautiful crescent moon, so get ready.
