Material - Bluewater tubular climbing spec nylon webbing
Width - 15mm (~9/16")
Length - 5'5" (65" or 1.65 meter)
Knot - Grapevine
Strength - 4500lb (~20kN)
Weight - 1.5 oz (43g)
Cost - $1.65

Useful characteristics - knot can be undone for threading and for leaving on rappels, stretch makes for dynamic loading of protection and anchors*, does not weaken with repeated loading*, can be used as prussik or kleimheist*, knot can be jammed in cracks Dresden style or used to secure the runner on a flake.

I agree with the OP (finally learned that waterknots slowly worked loose), Bolt and Prefontaine

Sure, Usain Bolt in the sprints - I never thought the 100m would go below 9.70, not to mention under 9.60!

Hicham El Guerrouj - 1500m, mile, 3000m
In the 1500m he has 9 of the top 13 times ever run

W sprints - would be:
Florence Griffith-Joyner, but she was so much better than the rest I think she probably used steroids for training.
Her stride in the 200m was sooo smooth, too bad if it's too good to be true.

W distance:
Paula Radcliffe - people say her marathon world record is so much faster than any other every run that it may never be broken

But watch out for Mo..... a 5,000/10,000 meter guy who after only a month of speed training runs a 3.28 1,500 hundred....the record, old as it is, could fall.

Mo Farah has a great kick. He might lower his 1500m time, and maybe even threaten 3:26.00 .

But in his main events 5k and 10k, he is more of a racer, using his kick.
Kenenisa Bekele holds the WRs in both events. I don't think Mo has given a serious try at getting a top time in those events, and I'm not sure how he would do. Bekele in his top form could hold a hard pace, or he could kick, so he was undefeated for quite awhile.

Obviously Billy Mills. Came from one of the most obscure places in this country and won gold in the Olympics. No one thought he had a chance.

One of the cool things on youtube in the past couple of years is that
the IOC has converted a lot of their classic film footage and put it on
youtube to watch for free.

Quality stuff. A lot better than the grainy bootlegs that had been put up by random folks in the past from VHS, etc.
