We have the estimable Elaine Matthews in the house as ambassador plenipotentiary from the Vulgarian Mountain Club. She is here as vmcgal and just posted for the first time here on the Chuck Ostin thread.
Welcome Elaine!

Welcome indeed! Elaine was a legend already when I started climbing. Unfortunately we were never in the same place at the same time. Now finally we meet.

I met Elaine back in 2008 at the big Gunks Reunion and Vulgarian panel discussion at Rock and Snow in New Paltz.

Elaine, Rosie Andrews and Barbara Devine are can hopefully come out and speak next year at the Oakdale Climbers Festival where we will be taking a look at women's climbing history.
I have a hunch that these gals will have a lot to say about their experiences.

Have heard various Vulgarian stories over the years. What a crew that must have been. Some fine climbs done and it seems they had more fun than anyone is supposed to while they did it.
More legends on the Taco..very cool.

A fine howdy-do to a fine lady and a fine climber.
I saw you bouldering one time at Camp 4 in the year 70 or the year 71.
Welcome and we'll look forward to Oakdale next year, presuming you and the other ladies will be there to speak.
We're all gonna be dying to meet you.

Big welcome Elaine, the only secret here is there are no secrets. Sort of................Lots of old friends hanging out in the background and with a wee kick they can be activated.

Elaine:
A short while ago I think I pretty well summed up the ST experience.
Long periods of absolute nonsense, occasionally interrupted by unbelievable excitement.
Oh, and 30 years from now, the present cast of characters will all be dead.
Naught of this is pejorative. Just the facts ma'am.

Just saw Elaine recently in the Near Trapps on the day I was out there with Dingus and Lady Scarlet. She and I are among the younger Vulgarians; we're just now hitting our seventh decade (or is it the other way round---our seventh decade is just hitting us). Of the whole decrepit lot, only perhaps four or five of us are still climbing, and she is climbing the most and the best, with lots of trips to exotic locals keeping her sharp.
Oh, and 30 years from now, the present cast of characters will all be dead.
No worries---we'll be right up there with them.

Thanks for the welcome - it has left me speechless. Not sure what stories i can tell. I can say that I am still trying to make them (stories, ie), though in a much more sedate manner than in the sixties. That however, makes them on the boring side.

Welcome, Elaine! Our paths crossed many times in the Valley, and I look forward to hearing some of your stories, or at least, your virgins (sic) of stories that I've already heard! No pressure tho! Lots of friends here!
Russ, is that you? LOL!

I looked through the archives but me thinks someone pilfered The Ping of Pingora. Alas, it shall remain embedded in our minds forever.
So far we have pulled into the fire McClinsky, Boche, Guido and only General Von Hennek remains to come forth of the fearsome four. Or was that fearless or more likely fearful lads?
