Here's a place to post all the YER GUNNA DIE instructional and climbing videos that you find online.
I'll start with this one:

This next generation appears to have no shame. Personally, I would have burned all the evidence of the Flatirons rescue and Gingerbread vids.
EDIT: that Gingerbread video is looooong. Minutes ~ 13-18 seem to capture the feel.

Instructional videos and books are not the best way to learn climbing. Best to have a real, live instructor where an instant feedback loop can be established.

wow pretty hard to watch there Stanley Steemer gingerbread boy back to the drawing board. I think he was blowing snot bubbles by the end. nice gear size selection to he could ruin a new rack in one pitch. good thing he went shirtless too I'm sure the extra weight would have peeled him right off

Why should I be ashamed? I have no mentor, so all there is for me instruction-wise are videos and books. Just don't leave the etrier halfway up like I did. Slow as f*#k, but boy was it a fun 1st ascent of a whopping 35ft, with a hook move. Yay.
Guess I'm the lesser experienced of most of you lot, and the more experienced of my friends that I drag along up the rock behind me. I've taught them to belay and clean, so I can lead. Failing that, I spend days (one or two a month if I'm lucky) like the video here with a Silent Partner pushing short things up to my limit, of unknown grade, and trying new things... which covers a lot.
Thanks to the few of you who've climbed with me... I tend to follow your lead and not push, and try to learn what makes me a better partner on the rock, whatever crap I may post to the forum on nights like this.

I don't think there's anything wrong with learning from books and videos over a real live person; it just all depends on your source. I'd rather read Freedom of the Hills or a John Long book or watch a Chris McNamara video than to ever go climbing with half of the people I see in my gym these days.

If you have to spend a lot of time prefacing why your advice is sketchy, you probably shouldn't be offering that advice!

My God! This stuff is horrifying. All the recent news about a single line of human evolution is clearly WRONG!

This link has the audio. Pure genius climbing with a thunderstorm coming in. Hard to believe we were all this stupid once.
