Blitzo's body of work is extensive and wonderfully interesting. So far Amanda and I have sifted through over 48,267 images. We've scanned and organized every single portfolio, thrown out the repeats and set aside the extensive collection of beer he photographed. Now we are on to the really fun part: The stories and and the adventures Blitzo had during his epic life.

This forum thread is all about those stories and trying to gain information on the areas of his work where there are holes to be filled. Once in a while, I will post groups of images in search of the missing links. Who was here with Blitzo? Where were they? Or, What in the world is this? :)

All of your input and insight is greatly appreciated!

TETON SUMMIT 1975

LOOKING FOR: Who? Mostly trying to figure out who is pictured and if in fact Blitzo took these images himself...and was there himself...

Locker,
Yeah, I'm not even attempting to ID everything. There are just some things I come across that are pretty neat...but he hadn't really labeled them so I thought I'd ask you folks on the forum, as most of them are climbing areas. So much history! And I'm enjoying the research :)

Agent -- got your email. Those are photos of myself and Blitzo climbing the Grand Teton. The photo that has a guy holding a wooden sign is our summit photo. From left to right its Blitzo with my old yellow rope, me holding the sign and some guy named Peter who we did the climb with. We met Peter at teh old Teton Climbing Ranch and he didn't have a partner so being the friendly sociable guys we are (I gradually evolved into a misanthrope later), we invited him to join us. We called him Interesting Peter because every time we told him some wild story he would reply "Hmmmmmm, interesting". I can't remember his last name if in fact I every knew it. There was a large guided group on the summit when we arrived and at least one of those photos shows us standing in line for the rappel escalator. This is late summer or early fall of 1975 I believe and the shots were probably taken with an Instamatic or other cheap camera. This is the same trip that we got kicked out of a "All you can eat" pancake house down in Moose for eating too much but I've already told that story here on the forum.

Locker, how ya doing, friend?

Errett, I heard that pancake story so many times, Blitzo loved telling it! I can still hear him snickering as he spoke...

Leigh Ann, thanks for all your hard work, I am sure that everyone appreciates it.

It just won't be the same in Joshua Tree this season... :(

I love that photo of us and the three of us had a really fun day!

Yeah, JT won't be the same without Blitzo. I will miss hanging having our after climbing day beer and listening to him ramble on about the same stories I've heard over and over again, but were still always funny.

Sigh.

Agent -- post whatever you like with my blessing. That summit register is NOT from the Grand Teton, but from the South Teton which we also summited on that trip via an easy snow coulour. On the descent near the bottom of the col, Bill tripped, fell and lost his ice axe. He slid about a hundred feet down the snow and into the rocks at the bottom. Some cuts and bruises but otherwise he was fine.

Thank you! When Bill and I first met, our only goal was to use his photographs to tell all those stories. Selling prints was secondary. But even without him here, I'm still finding the stories and you guys are the biggest contributors! I really appreciate the help and enthusiasm!!

Thank you so much for the clarification and permission to post! Sliding down the mountain....sounds like Bill. Ha! I will post all this in a minute on the blog and have the link here so you guys can check it out.

Also, Locker is helping me with Blitzo's MASSIVE climbing portfolio and I know there are a bunch of you in there. We will be sure to solicit more stories when the time comes fo' sho'!

WOW.... weird stuff...
I gotta wonder how many Zeke Lambert's there are. (see summit register).

I know one... he would have been early 20's way back then. One of my Mom's students from Lafayette. And I'm thinking he was a climber as I recall him giving my Dad campsite beta for Humphrey's Basin and talking about climbing Mt Humphry's in the late 60's. (Maybe early 70's).

Anyway.... Cool pics from the wayback machine...

Hey folks,

So I just finished Blitzo's Nevada collection on the website. Trying to confirm where the following images were taken. He had them filed under Nevada and labeled them "Primm": There is a town called Primm and the mountain range looks right, but I was thrown off by the water....

Probably Ivanpah Dry Lake and or some salt ponds?

Yep, that's just the flat after a nice bit of rain. Right at the California-Nevada border; the 15 runs right through it. Primm kind of sits right where two such areas meet.

Beautiful Shot.

Edit: I just checked out http://blitzofoto.org Holy smokes, so much talent. Just an FYI, the image you have for the Colorado section, is actually an image of Turtlehead in Redrock Canyon, right outside of Las Vegas NV.

Hiya Folks,

I have put a "Climb" portfolio on Blitzo's site. http://blitzofoto.org/collection/climb/

The only information I have for these images is whatever Blitzo titled them. Sometimes he titled them with name, place and year. Others have no real information.

Check it out at your leisure and if you have any information to add, please email me directly leighann . sulli AT gmail . com

Thanks you guys!!! I'll be adding more images throughout the week :)

I'd go with Yes and my guess is Hall of Horrors…. although it's pretty close up and difficult to make out the features.

Most likely a random slackliner that Blitzo did not know but wanted to capture.

The 29 Palms Art Faire has chosen this image for Blitzo's memorial entry. He titled it "Cherry Bomb". Not sure if that is the person climbing (doubtful) or the name of the climb itself. Any info on this one would be greatly appreciated!

I agree on the slack liner... I think I was with him for this... most likely Hall of Horrors here in Josh

The dude on the slab: Probably on Stick to What at Echo in JT. I'll check it out a bit closer.....

nope: it is the route Cherry Bomb at Echo, not Stick to What.

It will take a while to load. Maybe a minute before you see anything happening... maybe two minutes until the first image... depending on your internet connection speed.

If you are trying to get it to load using the wi-fi parked behind a DelTaco, I'd go in and order another taco or two.

Edit: that slideshow was set up to be projected, so the images and the file are pretty big. I will make another version of the same show, that will be a much smaller download, and more computer screen friendly. Gimme a couple of days and I'll post a new link here and on the other Blitzo thread.

Hey guys! Had a great meeting in Tahoe with Chelsea Cashner. We have a good plan for the scholarship that we are creating if we actually sell any of bill's work.

So Thursday, all of his prints will be half off. So if you can, keep us in mind for Christmas gifts.

Also, the reception for the 29 palms art fair where Bill will be featured is this Friday. The show is all weekend. Details to follow ;)
