Small town drive-ins that cannot afford the conversion to digital projectors will soon be gone.
Or at the very least not be able to show anything current.
These projectors are apparently $75,000 each!
The Dallas Oregon Motor Vu Drive-In is in a vote off competition with drive-ins from the entire USA.
The Honda company has donated 5 projectors in the U.S. already and is donating 4 more.
The voting is only open 5 more days!
Important thoughts:
The Motor Vu is celebrating its 60th anniversary.
I was born in Dallas!
How many of you ever made out at a drive-in?
How many babies were conceived at drive-ins?
Do we want kids to lose this important sex-education venue?
What would Godzilla say?
Vincent Price could lose his favorite theater!

What happens if they just use a cheap Dell conference room projector from far away? Is the lens not clear enough? Is the lamp not powerful enough for the spread of photons at that distance?
Maybe the movie would be darker, but if there are no competing street lights or car headlights, it seems like a plausible alternative and 100x or more cheaper.
Or if the small conference room ones aren't good enough, would this do the trick for ten times less money?

Butte still has one, the Silver Bow Drive-In; two screens and full lots during the nicer weather months :-)

There used to be a drive-in right on the Idaho-Washington border between Moscow & Pullman, that started showing occasional soft-porn movies in the early 1970's. It would be so strange to drive by and see 20 foot high boobs filling the screen.
